    There was a five year period when Oakland was truly the city of champions. A's won from 1972-1974. Warriors won here in 1975. Then the Raiders won in 1976. All the while, all three teams were pretty competitive during that span as well

    Rick Barry was an amazing all-around player in both the ABA and NBA.

    Love your breakdowns cause it gives me an idea of how games were actually played and called back than, instead of people who just say it was tougher and can't prove it!

    rick barry is so underrated today...in my opinion he is top 5 sf ever and top 30 players ever...this guy avg 25-7-5-2steals in his career...not many players could make it better than him!and also great leader...warriors had great team game and some good players but only had one great superstar who led them to the ring.on the other hand bullets had hayes-unseld(supertstars of 70's) and chenier who also was very good player.i remember warrios was the outsider on those series but won 4-0!

      Underrated for stupid people, he's the greatest Free Throw shooter and one of the 3 greatest small forwards.

    @arturrad96 I don't know if I really have on anymore - but I grew up going to all the Bulls games. So my favorite team is the 95-96 Bulls

  • @bballbreakdown

    @Alexandrosuper It's actually a much smoother way to shoot - you don't need to bend your legs as much, if your arms are tired, you don't need to bring them up over your head...

    That technical on Van Lier was critical to the Warriors' comeback. Nice analysis.

    @elvisniperx He had better make 'em if he was going to shoot them that way. But he always had a great argument: In the 4th quarter, when you're tired, it's harder to lift your arms over your head...

    In this game 7 against the Bulls, George Johnson an undrafted rookie from Dillard College had three blocked shots in the fourth to help the Warriors win this game down the stretch. The Warrior ran that guard pass to the wing forward with the guard going to get the ball handed back over and over and over. Al Battles bucked the trend of the time where, especially in the playoffs, teams relied on play 8 or 9 players at most, but Attles played 11. It is what helped the beat Washington. Vets like Jeff Mullins and Bill Bridges (in the last year of their careers) rookies like Smith, Wilkes, Dickey, and Dudley. Only Steve Bracey sat on the end of the bench and never played. So other NBA coaches began to play more players as well.

    The Game 6 NBA Finals is also a great game... Jordan with a very bad start that Phil relied on the bench to spark a rally 15-point deficit from Drexler's Trailblazers...

    @bballbreakdown oooh okay, sorry for being so persistent on sending you the link, I just wanted to make sure you saw it. I knew someone who enjoys basketball like yourself would appreciate that. I have a question, do you know where I can find any of the old school defensive or offensive plays they did back in the 60s or 70s? my friend who plays basketball says he doesnt see how they played defense, and it looks like they just randomly shoot the ball.idt thats true but I cant find plays anywhere

  • @den20dgo
    @den20dgo 12 лет назад

    Nate was 34 at the time so do your math. During the regular season he played almost 35 minutes per game, but in playoffs his playing time got cut in half. I guess it had something to do with his 35% field goal shooting. But he was still better rebounder than 90% of the players.

  • @bballbreakdown
    @bballbreakdown  13 лет назад

    @rocky12rullshard You need to use their aggression against them. First, improve your ballhandling skills, then use your body to create space and/or fouls on them

    hey coach is it possible to do a breakdown of game 5 1976 finals, the greatest game ever, i wanna see a full breakdown of all the crazy stuff that happened :) only if you can of course

  • @Chronz
    @Chronz 12 лет назад

    Love the breakdowns Nick, if you ever get a chance can you shed some light on Nate Thurmonds career. I know he was a great defender but I get the feeling he was overrated offensively (some called him better than Russell offensively). Did Nate get benched this game because he was past his prime or was his backup legitimately better? Odd how Nate joined those Bulls shortly after this series, any reason why such a great defensive team didnt become even greater upon adding a guy like Nate?

  • @garioldwin
    @garioldwin 12 лет назад +2

    Nate Thurmond is easily top 10 center of all time . Played great against both Kareem and Wilt and even outplayed Kareem in 1972. playoffs in Kareems best season . You should have at least say a few words about him .

    • @gandydancer9710
      @gandydancer9710 6 лет назад +1

      He did. "He was benched for Boerwinkle, who was a better passer."
      Thurmond was of course one of the greatest players of all time, and Boerwinkle wasn't. But by 1975 he'd played his best games, for the Warriors starting in '63.

    @myspacedotco Yes, yes, yes!

  • @Amick44
    @Amick44 7 лет назад

    No kidding. Boerwinkle was an avg center, good rebounder, passer, weak scorer. But even he an effective hook shot. Kareem (the best at it), Lanier, Cowens, Gilmore, Thurmond, Reed all had fine hooks. Jump shooters McAdoo and Issel didn't really, but they were more forward like anyway. Same for Jack Sikma and Bill Laimbeer a bit later.
