- I was prompted to do this video as response to a couple of recent messages from customers. One lady was having difficulty with barre chords, and another client had difficulty playing because of a condition called "club finger". Here I present a few a suggestions that might help, regardless of whether you have any physical problems or not, it's always good to try something new and different.

Brilliant. Way to help others overcome problems and difficulties. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
This is bloody brilliant! Some of the CBG's I built were for those with disabilities and ailments restricting playing a regular six string. I will incorporate these techniques in my own playing, to keep things interesting and fun.
You should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
First time I see so good explanation for beginners.
Thank you man!
I'm disabled - this is very inspirational! 🙂
That amp and pickup combination is producing the most awesome sound .
Hi John, I just wanted to say thank you for making this video, I as well, have problems plane because of trigger finger issues. Thanks again.
Great advice John. I play quite a bit of 5 string banjo, so the banjo style will definitely suit. I'm also going to give the lap style a rattle, I've built quite a few 3 strings but am reluctant to play as I always compare it to my banjo ability and it's very different (keep trying to play banjo chords) lap style will make it easier to visualise the chords and notes, thanks Davy
Xander and the peace pirates guitarist has one hand and strums with a hook. Great player. Some nice ways to make the instrument accessible for all John!
Would love a similarly in depth lesson on slide BTW ✌🏼
Thank you John, the advice on “bar fretting” given in this video is the advice I needed, I will practice until I get it sorted!
Very useful information, very well explained. I'm fascinated and interested in these instruments and how to rediscover fun in playing music with them. Great stuff.
Thank you John for your dedicated time sharing your knowledge with all of us!
Great lesson mate !!! Thanks for posting !!! 😀
Hi John. Built one of your kits over Christmas now time to learn to play. Great to watch.
Hi Mr C, thanks for this video, I am particularly interested in the lap tecnique you show at the end, is there any chance you could do a full lesson on this showing both hands and explaining the riffs you are playing, you are moving around the fret board really tunefully and it would be great if you could go into some detail about what basic rules you are following to know where you need to go on the fretboard to create a nice bluesy improvisation.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom, it's very much appreciated.
Thank you for your very helpful lessons on the CBG. Bill 😊
You're welcome!
I used to get terrible pain in my arm and tennis elbow when I played a six string, playing cigar box guitar fixed my tennis elbow and playing slide creates no problems for me, I can play all day now on a cbg, the thinner neck was the cure.
Cedell Davis used a butter knife as a slide. Another idea I came across was using a pair of gloves to build a kind of prosthetic finger-tip set.
Yep, this is certainly a great video. Thanks for sharing those tips.
Lots of good advice and food for thought.
I find the Banjo position useful when sitting but using a strap allows you to have the guitar in the same position whether you sit or stand.
I see you have a strap button above the neck-body joint but I found tying the strap on between the nut and the tuners gives the best support for me.
The fingers on my left hand aren’t bending very well at present so I’ll be trying things lap style to see how that works for me.
Thanks,
Simon
Thanks John,This is very helpful I've got stubby fingers and have always had problems fretting on regular guitars. The Banjo position really works for me and I find finger picking easier.By the way do you have a cure for my need to continually build CBG,s.I might need therapy.
I saw i guy with no hands play a 6 string guitar with his feet and actually play pretty well so if you have problems don't give up or get frustrated. Practice and persistence will pay off. Literally just about anyone can play if they stick with it.many people just give up if they aren't good right away and truthfully almost nobody is very good right away it takes a bit of dedication. Just enjoy playing and have fun doing it and gradually you will improve.
Great video. I broke my left wrist when I was just 15. ( fell out of a tree ). The result being I can not bend my left wrist as far as usual. I am going to try a few of your suggestions see if it helps. Thanks so much.
For playing with the fretboard flat check out Jeff Healey a Canadian guitarist sadly he past away a few years ago. Jeff was blind but was an exceptionally skilled guitar player.
An excellent player - sadly missed
Good one Mr. chickenbone !
Craig from Mojo Mules has cerebral palsy and plays slide guitar with a slide and a spoon. He uses the spoon as an alternative to plucking or strumming the strings...
I know Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to stream new tv shows online ?
