This is such a great video. Instead of complaining about Tim using yellow and green in his now old logo, JD should send him a salesman of the decade award. I've learned more about JD tractors from watching TTWT than I would visiting a dealership 1,000 times. Great seeing Pete too. Two great guys that are both experts in their respective fields.

The two things I have against Deere are:
    1. Price. I believe that they are 10 to 20% ish higher. Some of this is made up with dealer network, but asking that much more for a tractor they sub out the manufacturing on is a no-go at least for me. When they did everything in house, I would have looked past this I think.
    2. No SSQA. 90% of the rest of the world uses SSQA. When I bought my tractor it was the one thing I had to have. There are many places for me to rent stuff around here, but not one carries Deere attachments for the FEL.
The best thing I see in the Deere line is the dealer support, and the availability of models to fit needs. This video alone showed 12 or so available models in 3 different frame sizes. That is amazing.

I own a 2015 4066r cab tractor. It has the self leveling bucket and the hydrostatic transmission. I do not have any trouble getting a full bucket of material. I load and haul dirt, sand and gravel without any problems. There have been times I wish the bucket tilted back a little more. When using my pallet forks the self leveling is great. Love your channel Tim.

I glad that James River took the time to help y’all out. I went there to by my first tractor. They only had two tractors on the lot and the sales staff was to busy to help. So I left and went to Collie Equipment and purchased a Kobota L3901, then two years later traded for a cab LX3310. The owner took the time to make sure I was buying the correct tractor for my needs. I will most likely never own a Deere do to both franchises around me never have time to work with the small customers.

I had the same issue in Delaware going to a deere dealer for mower parts so my son in law didn't have to bring his mower over while we were at our property in the Appalachian mountains. I had ordered the parts over the phone and was in my work clothes driving one of my old dodges. No one offered any assistance as I looked at some equipment on my way out that was in the show room. I then pulled across the street and looked at their used equipment a red one caught my eye 😁. Someone came out with a clipboard wrote some numbers and started to walk away so I asked about the price for the red tractor and was told to write the invoice number down and bring it inside and someone would look it up....everyone had radios on them I was one of only 3 customers I saw in the 40 minutes I was there. Yes I have been looking for the right piece of equipment to have in the mountains and nothing new seems to fit my needs

Well I have been following you for at least 5 years now. Not just the videos. I have a 1, 3 and 5. Each has its place. I have to admit I like all three and it would be hard choice to go with just one at this point. The biggest smile does come from the 5. Likely because it begins to get into the bigger tractor category. In our town, most are bigger than the 5. I bought I for mowing bigger areas and am setup for dirt / gravel road maintenance. I live in big wheat farms area hanging on hillsides. Toe curling. There are days I just go for a drive during harvest to watch the dance.

Tim is literally a mirror image of me when it comes to tractors. He has the nerdy knowledge and the same passion. Everytime I hear him talk I'm like omg this is exactly almost word for word what I would say. It's because most people are not tractor nerds. We also do similar work except I have a 4044m.
On that note, man I wish I had a 4066R or a cab 5075E like that. The 4066R is like the Cadillac of the tractor world. The 5075 is maybe not so much a Cadillac but it is a true big boy tractor. I just have no need for a 5 series. But that 4066r cab tractor would be a dream 😍🔥
Also have always had hydrostatic, my 3025e, my 4044m, I love it for dirt work, but sometimes I wish I had that extra grunt in low gear that you don't quite have with a hydrostat. But can't go wrong either way.

if you need a creeper speed the manual is better than hydro because set it and forget it my 55 year old tractor can go that speed all day just put it in gear and in a open field you could jump out and you could run sircles around it and i think on that note the shuttle shift is better for him and loader work is easy enough with it and less loss on the hp and better for ground work

Tim I'm a John Deere guy. Still got the John Deere 4020 i baled hay with when i was 12 years old. That said you guys should look a test drive a Fendt 3 series. I'm pretty sure Fendt only offers a Vario or cvt or ivt transmission. For loader you can't beat it. You have traditional pedals configuration plus a small foot pedal to act like a accelerator pedal. So you get 2 modes of operation. 1 being the foot pedal or the joystick mode. Either way you still have the reverser lever on the steering wheel or now they have put a button on the loader joystick. Or you can control directions with the joystick. Anyway I'm sure you would both appreciate the Fendt in your operations. I have had the pleasure of test driving the Fendt 1050 with 517 horsepower needless to say I was impressed. All Fendt tractors drive the same. Some models even have the tractor operator seat reverse directions so everything including the steering wheel faces backwards.

Man I can't believe Tim and Christy follow so many of the same You Tube people that I follow. Lol I enjoy the collaboration video. Good point on extra hydraulics and ordering from the factory and/or dealer when purchasing a new tractor. You can wrap it into the deal if you are financing some of the purchase. Another nice thing is you can save on some labor when the dealer is doing an OEM install on multiple rear service hydraulics. In case of the Kubota Grand L series, the labor on 3 OEM levers is the same as one which is what we did. I also like how clean it looks on your work station.
Pete may consider the Grand L as they are similar to the 4R series in the larger HP models. We have the smallest Grand L which is quite similar to the 3R series 🤔

For hauling his sand, he may want to look into a 3 point loader with a hydraulic center link. My father has had one on his Deutz 8006 for years on the farm. His was made by Gnuze Manufacturing. He was able to easily dump loads of manure into a spreader with it. I think for the fellow you're helping this would be able to haul bigger loads and be safer with it.

When I was looking to buy a tractor folks would tell me to buy the biggest one I could afford. So I did and my 33R was a great tractor. But I also found myself letting it sit because it was too big for a lot of the jobs I had. My health was also a factor but I bought a 2025R and I have used it more since purchasing it in August than I had my 33R before. My advise is to look at all your needs and what your gut is telling you. Just because you can afford a bigger tractor doesn’t always mean you need one.

  • @5075E

I agree with your assessment 100% on the cabbed 4066R w/ e-hydro. When he said he needed/wanted something to keep a consistent slow ground speed, A/C, 2,000 lbs of loader lift, fairly heavy and PTO HP consuming implements, that kind of solved itself. The 5's are too big (I notice a huge difference hauling a 4 series around vs a 5 in weight), don't know if they would be too heavy for turf work and tire options never came up. There would be ZERO issues with loader lift. The 3 series got knocked out of contention due to loader capacity as good as it is. As much as I miss my 5 series, I don't miss the left leg fatigue of clutching all day doing loader work. The 4 series turning radius is far superior in tight places. I used to have to do multiple point turns in my driveway to turn around and now can do it without stopping. The cycle times are way faster with the hydro as well. Going between forward and reverse is much faster and much smoother and even that is adjustable with the e-hydro. Dan.

Large wide tires/light tractor/No fluid in tires/ballast only when using loader. Maybe a 2 tractor solution is what he really needs? Or does his existing Vintrac count as that first tractor?

Now is that a true shuttle shift in the sence you have to clutch, stop, shift direction, release the clutch? Or does this function esentually like a backhoe where you come into a pile and your on the throttle, fill your bucket you can let off the throttle, shift direction, and get back into the throttle and your Now moving backwards?

TTWT - I was wondering about what his “Hauling” capacity was?
The weights on the 4 series for sure mean bigger truck bigger trailer for daily use. 3 Series keeps you in the 1/2-3/4ton trailer under 10K, 4 series is 3/4-1ton with 15k trailer and likely longer length to accommodate attachments. I realize his tractor usage needs are first and foremost but if he stretches his budget on a 4series then realizes he needs bigger hauling set up 😅😅😅

Pete mentioned F-350 more than once in their discussions. He mentioned a flat bed and dump bed. While I missed any trailer reference if it was made, he should have enough truck and could upgrade to a 450

Great demos Tim. Wish I have had that when I bought my tractor. I probably would have gotten a compact instead of a subcompact Kubota BX23s.

You probably already shot the next video but a brand to look at or compare would be the Massey 2860M. Not many people throw that tractor into a comparison.

I totally agree! I own 10 tractors all new holland and just purchased a brand new Massey 5711 Dyna 4 110hp machine. After 50 hours work in the first 3ea weeks owning it. It is by far my preferred tractor. With AGCO owning MF. all that engineering is trickling down to MF. AGCO makes Fendt tractors which are the best most feature rich tractors made…. Period . I grew up green to the core but switched to New Holland after Fiat bought them 20 years ago. I much prefer European engineering and quality. Plus the dealer and MF support far exceed anything that I have ever experienced…. Especially from Massey Ferguson corporate reps…. They actually call you back.👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥

I've never been a huge fan of shuttle shift. I think I'd rather just have a standard transmission. But my hydrostatic is my favorite for it's variability, speed, and ease of use.

Great comparison with Deere tractors! One of the best thought out decision comparisons I’ve seen!
I wish my dealer would have gone in that much depth with me before I bought my first new tractor. Like ask questions of what my primary use for it was and what Else I’d be using it for! I did buy the right size tractor for my needs but I bought the lowest HP and manual trans….
Traded it in 6 years laters for More HP and an HST….bit of a costly mistake!
Would be nice to do another comparison on Kubota tractors

Loved this episode. Especially since he had no knowledge of the tractor options. You didn't cover much about the weight of the tractor on the ballfield. I don't have fluid in my tires just because of early spring mowing. Something to think about.

  • @royscarbrough3589
    @royscarbrough3589 2 года назад

I know you like small tractors Tim but he is gonna need a bigger HP tractor just to do the work. If his primary work is in ball fields he should get the size. It sounds to me like he really needs a tractor and a loader. That would be expensive but if he is expanding and is gonna need to do more faster.
I think the brand is important but the dealer is almost more so. A great tractor with a lamé dealer put you in a whole.
    Bravo to James River.

Tim, I have some indirect experience with James River south of where you were. My son bought a 3 series (nor sure now if an E or R) from James River in Statesville NC a couple of years ago. He went through this brand and size process then. His needs were conflicting in that he needed loader lift capacity but needed to work in tight quarters. He uses the pallet forks a lot but could not get a self leveling loader that would have been useful.
I did have one complaint with James River, but they did well on it after the fact-the salesman knew weight concerns on the loader, but they failed to turn up the hydraulic pressure. It would not lift spec weights when delivered. He bought Deere as James River was able to get machines when others could not tell him when stuff would be delivered.

I thought initially the four series HD would be a perfect fit, but I think you can’t get that option with a cab the little bit wider tires and heavier set up for sand would be really nice.
