Great video. I made one of these out of a box scraper. I did alot of testing with it and realized mounting the draw bar with a pintle hitch on the 3pt worked best. This way I could adjust the angles of the rear blades of the box by raising or lowering the 3pt from the cab. Can be seen on DotyBirdBuilds.
Happy to see you making these videos Pete! Was hoping to renovate my backyard but didn’t get my dirt right. My parents had a small John Deere tractor had a spot where we dumped yard waste and let it rot and compost I pushed it over and the hill. I would get bored and put the blade on the tractor. Had a neighbor who would come give me pointers. I never had the opportunity for a box blade but see how you could be more precise. That is a nice unit you have.
Pull type box scrapers are hard to beat. A three point can grade a little better with a highly experienced operator and the tractor set up correctly, very expensive and not easy! I’ve done both and will take a pull type over a three point all day long, so much cheaper and easier to use!
If you get a hitch bar that goes on your 3pt, you and set the ripper pins so what when you raise and lower the 3pt you get more or less cutting depth on the rippers. Basically you can change your hitch height on the fly to pitch the whole box blade forward or back
Near the start of the job you mention that you would like longer rippers so that you could better work the rippers, without the box blade engaging and carrying material. Would it make sense to you to have a separate ripper for that?
Love these driveway renovations. I would imagine the JD is much faster, but is the overall quality of the renovation better than the Ventrac with the power rake?
Quality the exact same. The operator determines the quality. Larger machine easier for larger jobs whereas the ventrac is easier for smaller jobs. Both are respectively efficient and make profit.

You are correct on the 6 way blade with tail wheel and sides. They also work good with top-n-tilt so you can swing them up or down an incline.
Never used a pull behind box blade but I sure see the differences and see that it is better. Thanks so much.GCI Turf Pro
Happy to see you’re still making videos Pete! God has big plans for you and your family!
Thanks for showing the difference between the 2....

Thanks Pete, your videos are worth GOLD! 🙌🏼
That setup with a laser or gps receiver and electronic solenoids would be ideal for a ball field and large yard.

Nice video 👍 I'm looking at a pull type box blade, this video is very helpful.
Recently discovered your channel glad i did
Pull types are FAR superior to 3pt.
Is that a 3 series or 4 series tractor?

The hitch is to high. That is the reason why the ripper is not deep enough.
Can you tell me who made that scraper?
Keep up the good work Pete
Can you get that box blade with hydraulic rippers?
This brand, no. I’m sure someone makes it
Where do you go to get a one like that?
We made Skis to go on our 3pt box blade so it will float
Pretty hard to beat a TR3 Rake.
Agreed 100% I have 2 of them. I would typically use a TR3 on jobs like this but was excited to try out the Hydraulic box blade...
