The younger guy smiles back and they forged a great friendship. They were each other's best man at their weddings. I saw them at the hockey game tonight and had a nice chat with them. Good couple of dudes.
The part that makes this scary for me is the fact that the smiling man never directly looks at the main character until the end either. He stares at something vaguely above him. For the entire video, you’re waiting for him to lock eyes with the MC or even us (the audience), but his face is just tilted slightly out of reach. It adds to the horror aspect, since a lot of the time, the “monster” in these horror stories usually stares directly at the viewer to make *us* feel like we’re in a helpless situation with the MC. But in this, we kind of want the smiling man to just look at us so we can see some form of humanity within him. But the moment he does, you can’t make out any details on his face because it’s shielded by that manic smile and the lighting. It gives you more of the illusion that the smiling man isn’t a “man”, and more of just a thing that’s pretending to be a man but doesn’t look quite right.
In the original story, it's just a man who is quote "completely insane." Everything about this video is accurate, up to the running. After that, the protagonist got away. There was no jump scare at the end where the guy popped up out of nowhere. It was a true story of a bizarre and creepy encounter late at night, but the story ended there - after the chase. I think this rendition is really well done, but personally I hate jump scares. They're so overdone, it's not scary for me and just made it seem predictable. Idk.
I was yelling at the main character to keep running and not stop and not try to get into any of the houses. Like…dude, don’t rest! You have a terrifying person who wants to do who knows what! Biggest mistake in horror movies: assume, even for a moment, that you’re safe…
This is the type of thing that creeps me out more than anything. Seeing someone acting completely strange and unpredictable in a way that you can't tell if they're a threat or not. Having no idea whether to just keep walking, wait, laugh, scream, run, ect.
@@katiezee2 yeah it's a primal fear your body telling you something is definitely not right and to get away. Amazing they managed to recreate that feeling so well in a short clip.

the biggest question is what does he do when he catches his victims. he seems to not have any weapons on him so he either kills you barehanded or just genuinely enjoys scaring people
This is a way better ending this stuff should not end happiley but i wonder in this ending what happend to the guy did he die did the smiling man just leave
real or not, the smiling man by blue_tidal is definitely my favorite scary story of all time, and that's coming from someone who's had a lifelong interest in horror. it's simple, but nothing has ever genuinely creeped me out as much as the mere concept of this situation. props to this actor for absolutely nailing it and very nearly giving me a heart attack every time i watch this.
Every few months or so ill randomly get a nightmare about this situation. Every time i do, this short's soundtrack always accompanies it, and i find myself running with the same blaring sirens echoing in my mind. I dont know what it is about this short's soundtrack that just unsettles me so much, but if it's able to become the OST of my literal nightmares, it has done its job tenfold.
imagine ur walking home and the smiling man is just coming towards u and u pull out ur phone and put on the song “making my way downtown” “it’s the best day ever” or a nice waltz song
The 2 Sisters or you could play, "easy street" but yours is better, i'm still giggling at that..can imagine it 😂.you have made my week..i aint laughed in a while so i needed that, thankyou 😊
And this is the horror that actually scares the living shit out of me. Not some dumb cheap jumpscares, blood or shitty slasher mask-guys, but this - unsettling, bizarre, eerie and somehow upsetting vision of something that seems to be harmless, yet turns into horrifying nightmare. Perfect.
This is one of my favourite short horror films! I love it! I find it more funny than creepy, but I cant tell if its the smiling man himself that makes me laugh or the absolute weirdness of it all! I swear this is based off a creepypasta too
Probably the weirdness of it, and how we never get a definitive answer as to why he was being stalked and what the Smiling Man will do now that he’s caught up
Reading the comments while watching is funnny as fuck! I was giggling like crazy with all those meme-like comments 🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! It didn’t get creepy anymore because my thoughts just went into meme-space 🤪🤪
This has managed to capture all the essence of a nightmare. I've had dreams like this before where I've been alone somewhere late at night. Feeling as though I'm the only person in the world, when something appears near me. It works on such a primal fear. Horror film makers should really learn from the people who make short films like this. These are a lot more terrifying than the conjuring movies could ever be.
I had a dream where I was carrying a baby down a dark road and a hooded guy started running at me with a smile. That's what this reminds me of honesgly
I had a dream a few weeks ago of some deformed smiley face staring at me through the window, as if it's been staring at me since I was born i Just never seen to before, next thing u know i woke up thinking sth was grabbing me had sleep paralysis
Like LOEYLANE said it is always creepy to see humans not act as humans at least in the most basic ways. Yes we are all different but to witness a look in someone's eyes that just seems out of this reality is disconcerting.
There is something really unsettling when humans move in such a weird way, "Us" was a perfect example for that. The way the smiling man moves absolutely terrifies me.
And i wasn't even looking up.. I just walked in the class and suddenly i see different faces speechless lookinh me and i felt sooooooo embarrassed.. Of course everyone was laughing.. So did i... But i will never forget their look on their face lol
I think the scariest part of this is that it could be a real life situation like walking home from your friends house at 2am then there’s some maniac roaming the streets in the dark 😶
This story was posted on reddit years ago. One of those “What’s the creepiest thing that ever happened to you” posts. The story TOTALLY freaked me out. This film is really spot on. The real ending was the kid walking- ran all the way home and vowed never to go for walks again at night.
I have so many questions: Why did this make me laugh and scared at the same time 😂😱 Why does the smiling man's neck look so long And why does he remind me of The Mask
*THE ANSWERS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS* 1. The video is actually funny because the smiling man is moving like a character from 90s cartoons. 2.His neck looks long because he is just looking up. 3. He reminds you of "The Mask" because the smiling man looks like Jim Carey. 🙂
Even so many years later that scene where he begins to "sneak walk" to the guy like he doesn't want to be spotted even though he is clearly visible still gives me goosebumps
This is literally my greatest fear. Walking alone in the middle of the night, and you see a person...but not quite...a person. It's as if it's trying to be a person, but even as you walk to the other side to get pass it, it follows you to the same curb. You look behind you, and it's now dashing towards you. The next thing you know, a knife is lodged to your stomach, you fall down to the floor and the last thing you see is this creature smiling, as it drive the knife through every part of your body with cold-blooded passion.

Woke up in some random apartment, a mattress laid out in the living room for me with no covors. no sign of butt rape so that was good, still had my clothes on. I looked thru the 2 bedrooms and nobody was home, just family pictures on the walls, nobody i recognized. found my shoes in front of another door of the apartment next door. Then i just left to go home. In hindsight, maybe should have waited to get the story and see who helped me. I went back a couple weeks later and knocked, nobody home, asked a neighbor who lived here and they didnt know. idk but it was kinda trippy. I started laughing because I'd already read your comment 😂
"what the hell do you want!"
*"Umm..sir actually we're trying to reach you for your car's extended warranty since you weren't available at daytime"*😂
the biggest question is what does he do when he catches his victims. he seems to not have any weapons on him so he either kills you barehanded or just genuinely enjoys scaring people
Thats right
@ZAINUL ABEDEEN well then i would be very scared for the smiling man. what if he does this to a trained boxer or black belt in karate?
The Man 👨 is Ghost 👻 Scaring People

The sound and clip of the smiling man sprinting at the protagonist always gives me that nasty gut drop feeling. It's just so unnerving.
Who else shivered when he started running

At the actual story the guy just loses the smiling man and goes home but still its cool seeing a new ending.
This is a way better ending this stuff should not end happiley but i wonder in this ending what happend to the guy did he die did the smiling man just leave
Your right because my teacher was roommates with the guy
Velimir Mišanović The original I read didn’t end happily, the guy went insane at the end, ffs I would
This is creepy pasta right?
@@larzyyparsley2653 no somebody wrote this on reddit
real or not, the smiling man by blue_tidal is definitely my favorite scary story of all time, and that's coming from someone who's had a lifelong interest in horror. it's simple, but nothing has ever genuinely creeped me out as much as the mere concept of this situation. props to this actor for absolutely nailing it and very nearly giving me a heart attack every time i watch this.
Did you take the picture on your profile pic or did you get it from the internet

The only horror film where I was not able to finish it.
@ZAINUL ABEDEEN i thought there was just the 1 story from letsnotmeet ?
Every few months or so ill randomly get a nightmare about this situation. Every time i do, this short's soundtrack always accompanies it, and i find myself running with the same blaring sirens echoing in my mind.
I dont know what it is about this short's soundtrack that just unsettles me so much, but if it's able to become the OST of my literal nightmares, it has done its job tenfold.
imagine ur walking home and the smiling man is just coming towards u and u pull out ur phone and put on the song “making my way downtown” “it’s the best day ever” or a nice waltz song
Im Fan lol ik
_daniii_ 13_ lol the song by William bolton??I love him

The 2 Sisters or you could play, "easy street" but yours is better, i'm still giggling at that..can imagine it 😂.you have made my week..i aint laughed in a while so i needed that, thankyou 😊
And this is the horror that actually scares the living shit out of me. Not some dumb cheap jumpscares, blood or shitty slasher mask-guys, but this - unsettling, bizarre, eerie and somehow upsetting vision of something that seems to be harmless, yet turns into horrifying nightmare. Perfect.
I completely agree. This is the scariest!!!
If you think this is harmless ur dumb as shit
eh bud, you missed the point- better go find it.
kind of...IS a "jumpscare" though isnt it?
I know what would make him frown... if I got butt naked and started faping it in front of his face and chasing him...

“Hey dude wanna try this sweet weed I got for five bucks? It’s greaaaaaaat”

in context, that would give better explanation to his weirdness

This is one of my favourite short horror films! I love it! I find it more funny than creepy, but I cant tell if its the smiling man himself that makes me laugh or the absolute weirdness of it all! I swear this is based off a creepypasta too
Probably the weirdness of it, and how we never get a definitive answer as to why he was being stalked and what the Smiling Man will do now that he’s caught up
and this is one o my favorite comment

I agree with you. This is far scarier and unpredictable
Good point
Its a psychological trick. We instictively evaluate and judge others. If movement etc are inhuman then it can trigger a deep fear within us.
Like LOEYLANE said it is always creepy to see humans not act as humans at least in the most basic ways. Yes we are all different but to witness a look in someone's eyes that just seems out of this reality is disconcerting.
Blue Walker 😂😂😂😂 well said!
There is something really unsettling when humans move in such a weird way, "Us" was a perfect example for that. The way the smiling man moves absolutely terrifies me.
When the villian is just an eccentric man with cerebral palsy.

Nastazia Official Channel Jesus sounded like you got ptsd from that.
I remember reading that thread and I just had to make this!
Oh yh, that's where I remember it from.
I’ve heard it read by Mr Nightmare and it’s always scared me so much
I have so many questions:
Why did this make me laugh and scared at the same time 😂😱
Why does the smiling man's neck look so long
And why does he remind me of The Mask
*THE ANSWERS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS*
1. The video is actually funny because the smiling man is moving like a character from 90s cartoons.
2.His neck looks long because he is just looking up.
3. He reminds you of "The Mask" because the smiling man looks like Jim Carey. 🙂
Omg im watching the mask now
@@danielgabriel6657 thanks 😂

Even so many years later that scene where he begins to "sneak walk" to the guy like he doesn't want to be spotted even though he is clearly visible still gives me goosebumps
This was more scary and unsettling than any of the horror films I've watched lately. And in just 4 minutes.
Well, yeah. Horror works better as a short experience. It’s all about the fear of the unknown.
This is scarier than the actual source material because of the ending

Silly Girl BYEEEE
The key is if some weirdo starts sprinting at you, you sprint right back at them. Keep ‘em guessing.
Ok this is getting too specific now
I would never walk alone at night man never
@@khushisingh5150 things happen... i went to a party once with some old friends and they made a joke out of me(wasnt really that bad a prank) so I left the party hammered cuz i was like "F u guys"(they were my ride). Then my phone died and I had to find a main street to figure out where the fk I was. Looked left, looked right, then I blacked out.
I dont recomend drinking too much But I do recommend driving yourself and charging your phone often. maybe even bring a portable charger. this was all before lyft and uber of course but even then you gotta wait in some random neighborhood if things go sour wherever you are. phone could even break maybe bring a spare xD or atleast a tazer

Nothing scarier than a happy person walking down the street. Everyone's like, "What's wrong with him? Why can't he be miserable like the rest of us."
