Polygamous societies create structural imbalances. The high status men take multiple wives and some men get none.. this creates pressure to expand the pool of available mates, hence taking younger and younger “women” for wives. Also sometimes there is pressure to drive the young men out of the community or engage in warfare.

    • @MrNirom1
      @MrNirom1 Год назад

@jennifermorse2372 Yea so you get the boys will be boys in all forms of society. Why can we all just be perfect??? No matter what God wants from us... we just can't get anything right.
Polygamy has never been for mankind... it has been for God's purposes. To raise a people unto himself. What kind of people?? People that are more righteous than others. He wants children brought into families that care about these things.. He wiped the entire world of people except for the 8 righteous souls that were left!! Why would he do that? Have you ever contemplated the thought process concerning it? The same was with Sodom and Gomorrah. There was not to be one righteous child brought into the world when the parents were totally wicked. All were being born into pure wickedness. There was no sense on bringing more children into families like this.. So he destroyed Sodom... he destroyed Gomorrah... and he destroyed all but 8 souls in the flood. But when he has a people that is in the midst of wickedness of other people... he will command it with the intent to raise a people to himself. Monogamy is the rule.... polygamy is the exception to the rule. But only to God's rule... man does not have the choice to take it upon themselves. It goes against God when he does not authorize it.

And of course... we are getting into the in genetics of this family as being real close. I am sure something was done until the generations were so far apart that nothing needed to be done. The only enemies were among family members and the Lord took care of that by highlighting the skin color in those that called themselves Lamanites. That is why the Lord forbid the Nephites from practicing Polygamy. There was no need. He already brought the people he wanted that would raise seed unto himself.
I feel that DNA probably did change in the Brothers of Nephi. And I would suppose also in those that remained with Laman & Lemuel.

God is merciful. He loves ALL his children. If you believe in eternal marriage and family, Would God not provide a way for his ancient prophets and modern day polygamists all over the world to be united in the afterlife? Should they be withheld from God if they turn towards God in the afterlife?
Joseph Smith had the life mission to restore the gospel in it's fullness. That was His mission. Thankfully we don't have to practice polygamy for it to have been restored in the latter days.
So polygamy or rather a way for polygamous families through out all time, had been created by a merciful God who loves ALL of his children. It makes sense that Joseph married a large variety of women to fulfill this restoration in saving polygamous prophets and modern day families in Africa etc. That they wouldn't loose their eternal families of having their husband and father because it would be unmerciful for God to tell the second wife and her children that they are out of luck in having thier husband and father in the eternities. And many in history did marry 14 year olds. Not right by todays standards, but he didn't live in modern times along with many in history. I have many in my family who ran away at age 14 and married to leave home. I don't judge them either. I haven't walked in any of their shoes thankfully. But God knows them all and provides a way for All his children...

This is heavily inaccurate, let’s go through this point by point. Here is that full passage from the Book of Mormon:
    Jacob 2:23-33
“23 But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son.
24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
    27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 *For if I will* saith the Lord of Hosts, *raise up seed* unto me, *I will command my people; otherwise* they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.
33 For they shall not lead away captive the daughters of my people because of their tenderness, save I shall visit them with a sore curse, even unto destruction; for they shall not commit whoredoms, like unto them of old, saith the Lord of Hosts.”
What’s happening here is that people were using David and Solomon’s polygamy to justify their whoredoms. God tells them that the practice of Polygamy is reserved only for the times it’s necessary (see Deut. 25:5-10). In Joseph Smith’s case, there were several reasons why Polygamy was temporarily re-instituted. One of them was the recent restoration of the sealing keys, the theology of sealing is quite complex, but simply put, they are used to bind families together in heaven with the end goal of bringing together the entire human family, this was particularly done through marriage.
In addition, there was the Mormon Extermination Order on top of heavy persecution by mobs leaving thousands widowed and fatherless. So by the time Latter-day Saints had escaped and survived the 1,000 mile journey to Utah, which was a barren desert at the time, polygamy was definitely necessary, otherwise the Latter-day Saints would have gone extinct.

This poor guy. He reads the Book of Mormon but doesn't understand what it actually said concerning the condemnation of Polygamy. I guess he just glossed over it. Or he saw it but decided not understand it or still yet... just decided that it was not important.
    Too bad.
So this is what he read:
23 But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son.

29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
But it looks like he forgot the last verse... shucky darn:
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
So people... If God wants it to happen, he will command it. Guess what? As a part of the Restoration... he commanded it. He allowed it for only 50 years. And then it was done.

I should also teach you all about the laws of the United States and the rest of the world concerning marriage and the female's right to consent to marriage and according to the law of the land... what the age of consent was.
      Ready???
There is a thing called Presentism. According to the dictionary.. the definition is "uncritical adherence to present-day attitudes, especially the tendency to interpret past events in terms of modern values and concepts."
In other words: The definition of the word means essentially to judge someone of the past based on the modern values of the present.
What this means.. is to put OUR value system.. OUR way of seeing things today... OUR current political correctness upon those who lived in the past.
As an example... In Joseph Smith's day.. according to the laws of the land that were established before Joseph Smith was even born.... this is what we find:
The age of consent for marriage under English common law was TEN. United States law did not raise the age of consent until the late nineteenth century. In Joseph Smith’s day, most states still had the declared age of consent to be TEN! Some had raised it to TWELVE, and Delaware had lowered it to SEVEN! (See Melina McTigue, “Statutory Rape Law Reform in Nineteenth Century Maryland: An Analysis of Theory and Practical Change,” (2002), accessed 5 Feb 2005)
In 1880 (nearly 40 years after Joseph Smith’s death), the minimal age of female consent in Illinois was age 10. The following U. S. states (and territories) identified their minimal age of female consent at age 10 in 1880: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. (Source 1)
The following states identified their ages of female consent at 12 in 1880: Arizona, District of Columbia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. (Source 1)
Outside the U. S., Denmark’s minimum age for female consent was 12 in 1880-and still 12 in 1920. Same ages and dates for Portugal, Scotland, and Spain. By 1880 England had advanced the minimal age from 12 to 13. The age of consent in Canada and Australia in 1880 was also 12. By 1920 Canada had advanced the age to 14. In Russia the minimum age in 1880 was 10. It advanced to 14 by 1920. (Source 1)
So.. to put Joseph Smith down and look down upon him for what you think is wrong... without understanding the standards and attitudes of HIS day.. is wrong on your part.
You want to leave the church because he married a 14 year old.. then leave it. That is your choice. Moses actually killed a man.. and not in self defense.. before he became the prophet. Leave the church on that account as well.
Oh... and don't forget. The 14 year old that Joseph married consented... and so did both her parents.

We’re not Catholic because of Moses but because of CHRIST. But I digress.
Your argument is that God commanded polygamy for 50 years, even after condemning it explicitly in Mormon scripture, but that does not hold up in history. Smith denied teaching polygamy even while practicing it himself. It wasn’t publicly proclaimed until after his death. And the practice ended for political reasons, not on the basis of revelation, so that Utah could join the Union. The entire delusion was man made, not commanded by the Lord of Hosts.

@@christinacanto3740 Ok... time for a LDS scripture reading of something you know nothing about. Here is the Scripture from the Book of Mormon that you referenced but just failed to read the whole thing:
23 But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son.
      27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
HERE IS THE VERSE YOU MISSED!!!!
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.

Uh. Most of this stuff is way out of context.
Joseph didn’t send husbands away to marry their wives.
The 14 year olds father insisted he marry her. She loved polygamy and was the most outspoken author about it. It was a non sexual relationship.
You have done a real disservice to truth. I’m all for not believing the Mormon church, but truth and accuracy is important

Incorrect, the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints stopped practicing polygamy when it became illegal. Anyone practicing polygamy is not part of the LDS church. They are fundamentalists and extremists. The LDS Church was persecuted so much when it first started that most of the men were killed off. So the saints were commanded to marry up the wives that had lost their husbands and join families to cross the country and start a new life where they could live in peace. 🙏
