  • Rode my Honda Fury up for TougeFest 2020 and took it down the Tail of the Dragon located between Robbinsville, NC and Chilhowee, TN. It was a fun ride, just followed pace with some guy named Chris on an Indian FTR1200 (Found that out after we chatted at the overlook. Wound up doing like 5 more runs on the tail with him).
    For anyone who goes up there regularly, if someone had come up behind me I absolutely would have used the pull offs, lol.
    For anyone who hasn't been up there but is thinking about it, if someone comes up behind you that is going faster than you, don't be a dick, use the pull offs.

      As a new rider, I get very nervous when my pegs scrape bc I feel like I'm leaning too much and the bike will fall lol

      I have cobra fatty highway bars that scrape before my floor boards ever do now. I don't like it. I miss dragging floor board, lol

    took my 19 fury to TotD after a few months of riding it. was a spring sunday afternoon. was bit intimidating with a lot of traffic. went back on a HOT august tuesday afternoon. NO traffic!!! fury obviously not ideal for those road conditions but it was much more enjoyable. no intimidations, just throttle, lean, scrape the pegs and do it again

      Definitely a fun road. I've been going up there for years now. This video was my first time taking the Fury on it though.

    Quite a ride. Long bike with a skinny front tire, but you hustled it along well. Beware the painted lines. I have found out just how slippery they can be.

      The Honda engineers definitely knew what they were doing with this bike. I've let a number of friends ride it, friends who usually ride sport bikes or Harleys, they were all shocked at how well the Fury handles.
      And yup, they are, that's why I do my best to not cross them with the bike.

    I didn't hear a lot of shifting in there. what gear were you mostly using? I am planning to take a 2010 Honda Interstate (VTX1300) there next year.

    • @SkufMcGruff
      @SkufMcGruff  8 месяцев назад +1

      2nd and 3rd, no real need to go outside those gears on a road like that. A lot of folks ride it just in 2nd as they tend to ride it with a little less enthusiasm.

    Nice footage and great to see the Tail with the Fall foliage. A real twisters paradise. I wonder how many people follow other riders, or adopt them (follow at a safe distance to make sure they’re safe and in good shape)? It more or less done by drivers but maybe riders do it too given the nature of the Tail.
    Yeah, definitely not a place for target fixation. Retry wild. I found myself looking into all the curves you were taking.

    • @SkufMcGruff
      @SkufMcGruff  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man and yeah target fixation definitely gets a lot of people on that road. And idk about other people but I do the riding behind people thing a lot to watch how they ride to try to improve how I ride.

    You were right, I should have recorded my runs this way. Or at least brought extra batteries so I could have done this and a bit of hyperlapse to mix in. Enjoy the Trident. I expect less scraping of hard parts than on the Fury.

    • @SkufMcGruff

      Hahaha, yeah it's not for everyone. I still have the Fury and still ride it from time to time, but I moved to a Triumph Trident 660. The naked bike fits my riding style a bit more.
      Did have to replace the foot peg housings on the Fury though, they were worn WAY down from being used as lean indicators 😅

      @SkufMcGruff  3 года назад +1

      I love my Fury, it's a great ride. I've never ridden a bagger so I'm not sure about the SG. Only bikes I've ridden didn't have bags/fairings/wind screens. I have let a few of my buddies ride my Fury who normally ride Harleys, they said it was like riding on a cloud compared to their Harleys.

    I know on my Honda Fury which I'm sure uses the same with that fat rear tire you kind of have to over steer every corner and it feels like the front wheel might come out from under you so I'm sure yours probably feels the same let me know if it is thanks bro God bless you

    • @SkufMcGruff
      @SkufMcGruff  Год назад +1

      The only time my front wheel feels light on the Fury is if I'm doing 80+ on the interstate. Granted I'm a heavier dude and I always have my bike on max preload and she feels completely planted in corners. Last time I was up there on the Fury I had two dudes on nakeds use the pull off and wave for me to pass them, lol.

    Dude, great video! You can hear the frame scrapping the asphalt when cornering.. lol that sucks
    My Fury does that, occasionally. I hate it. I am considering screwing some nylon scrape bars to the frame.

    • @SkufMcGruff
      @SkufMcGruff  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man and it wasn't much frame scrape, it was mostly just peg scrape. I've got the suspension set as stiff as I can so the frame doesn't hit often.
