For all the scumbags commenting "I could paint better that that", you must first understand that there are genres of painting. Realism is only one of them. Sure you can replicate his painting but that doesn't mean you created it. You can also copy Einstein's equations in your notebook, that doesn't mean you thought of them. Same goes for this.

In the years 1992-95. MF Husain visited Jaipur as guest of the Jaipur Rissala, presently known as the 61st Cavalry and stayed in Cavalry officers mess along for a few weeks. His autobiography does mention the same in passing, as a civilian staying in the Army cantonment was not legal, but summarises how a boy born in Pandharpur went to Indore and grew up to become Maqbool, the painter. Bombay conferred on him the title of M.F. Husain, the artist, while in Delhi he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1991,by Govt of India. As per Hussain, he painted the horses for the first time in the 1950s, it was certain that he sought much more in the piece than a mere aesthetic exercise. A personal meditation plays out on the canvas and Husain's desire to universalise a personal and intimate relationship with the animal is evident. 'Husain's horses become a vehicle for multiple utterances - aggression, power and protection...the brute strength of horses born and released from fabulous regions mutate in to thunderbolt, energies, phallic and omnipotent.' The horse in Husain's pictorial vocabulary has evolved through an amalgamation of varied visual memories; from riding in his grandfather's horse-drawn tonga as a child, to absorbing images of the stylised Duldul horse during annual Muharram processions in Indore, the folk horses from the village of Bankura, and the horse in Chinese painting and sculpture that he saw during his visit to the country in 1952. Combined with his encounters with classical and folk traditions, or the polo matches on the Jaipur polo grounds, Delhi & his stays at the 61st Cavalry, Jaipur, in early 90s, or his visits to Bharatpur. Husain reformulated these images, adapting them to fit his own purpose as a modern artist. Of his inspiration for his horses, Husain had said, 'I have not seen these wild animals in the jungle. I have seen them imprisoned in stone on the walls of Khajuraho, Konark, Mahalipuram - the temples of medieval India.' (K. Bikram Singh, Maqbool Fida Husain, New Delhi, 2008, p. 169) Even his encounters with horses at a young age conjured images of gentle and affectionate animals, displaying aristocratic elegance. Yet Husain's horses exude life, they are dynamic beasts, creating a certain frenzied energy on his canvases; a direct contrast to his quiet inspirations. These horses are nearly always unbridled or galloping, rarely static. Unbridled raw power of the polo ponies, They are symbols of power and vitality. Strong, bold lines and thick impasto paint in vivid tones of red, yellow and white capture an explosive energy that bursts through the confines of the canvas. Relying on the uninhibited movement of his brush, Husain captures the movement and vigour of these dignified beasts. 'The horses are rampant or galloping; the manes, the fury, the working buttocks, the prancing legs, and the strong neighing heads with dilated nostrils are blocks of colour which are vivid or tactile or are propelled in their significant progression by strokes of the brush or sweeps of the palette knife. The activity depicted is transformed in the activity of paint.' During his wanderings from city to city and country to country, Husain met a host of people mainly royalties of Rajasthan during this particular visit. Whenever he was asked about them, his reply was, "If I try to enumerate them, it will give the impression of name dropping. I can only say: Husain’s horses need no introduction. When asked what the horse stood for, he had unhesitatingly replied: Grace and freedom. He used to talk to young Cavalry officers about his childhood spent in Pandharpur to life on the streets of Mumbai. You have to create your own style to get recognition. You can not be recognized by copying other's painting. If I paint in Van Gogh's style I can not deserve any recognition at all.
WOW !.... Such a glimpse into one of the most interesting aspect of artist - while he is AT WORK. It looks so divine; he is absorbed with his soul into the canvas. The head of the horse, the way it is turned around and the space of its body, surely a masterly flow of proportionate strokes. I am currently interested to learn his oeuvre and know his views and insights. Thanks for uploading the video.

MF Husain was hoisted by The Maharani of Jaipur, Rajmata Gayatri Devi and The Jaipur Rissala between 1992 and 1995. The eminent painter spent his joyful days at the Jaipur Rissala which is presently known as the 61st Cavalry, staying in the cavalry officer's mess. In his time over there, Husain painted a series of paintings which depicted the army and the polo horses. Besides Husain immortalized Her Highness Gayatri Devi in the various portraits, he painted of her. However, a few of those portraits remained incomplete as Husain could never return to culminate the artistic work he had undertaken at The Rissala.

She heard me and next morning wished to buy his works along with few other artists. 30-35 oil on canvases of the painters immediately. That purchase had hugely helped Gaitonde to tide over his large accumulated debts after his accident which left him physically restrained and then the fire which destroyed his house, She did not want anyone to know other than Mrs Zorawar Singh her close confidante. She had most pious and gentle helping heart and she felt pained for any artists trouble. God Bless her and the family. Thanks to God her grand children bring her great peace and she must be happy in heaven's see them do so well. He is referred to as one of the great artist. People here are commenting about realism, brush strokes etc etc to prove their point that he is one of the greatest artist. I am just trying to understand what exactly the painting he just made depicts that makes it a great art. Please do explain anyone.
Sandeep Gowda this is his masterpiece way of painting. Once you establish a style in art, your works in same line would be cherished by your followers. For example Raja Ravi Varma art. It had similar characters, inspired by mythology. Then comes that of Da Vinci, most of which were sfumatous paintings. And don't go by the guys who says that Hussain sir don't know realist painting. Because he was a known bollywood poster artist, before he became a professional artist. And to know what bolywood posters were like, google it. You would realise, what an artist he was.

Very very thanking you for uploading video
I would've laughed and cried over that painting..... If I was 2 years old. Sorry, but I don't have the eyes to watch that beauty in chaos anymore.
I got a pleasure of meeting him and taking his autograph when he came to kuwait and in India.

Of course.
Haven't you seen Nude God ,not allah ,by horse brush.?
If I'd paint like that, no one would ever recognise me
You have to create your own style to get recognition. You can not be recognized by copying other's painting. If I paint in Van Gogh's style I can not deserve any recognition at all.
First thing is wheather you CAN draw! Things look easy when someone else does it. Try to learn and grow....

No one understands... that feeling.........🤔
He is the artist created the abstract horse.....his own way.....
I like his style of painting....

I had the honour of seeing him painting live with my eyes when he had come to Chennai for a showroom opening..
These modern painting admirers, in my dad's view are the people from the crowd in "The Emperor's Clothes" story.
Your dad is realism fanboy then. No offense but it is true, I am also the same.

ASHVA SHAKTI YASHOBAL!!!
THREE CHEERS FOR THE 61ST CAVALRY AND THE PRESIDENTS BODY GUARDS!!!.
Husain spent time at the 61st Rissala stables & royal stables of Rajmata Gayatri Devi in Jaipur.
Rajmata Gayatri Devi patronized Indian painters like Ram Kumar, Gaitonde, Manjit Bawa, among others.
It's after this stint at Jaipur that he met Madhuri Dixit at an award function in 1994 and carried out a series of Horses & Madhuri paintings and then entered film making.
He made a series of paintings on 61st Cavalry, PBG, various Rissala's, Lancers, Cavalries, Army, State Forces & Polo. They were sketches & oil on canvases. These have remained private and not showcased publicly till date.
The painting material was provided by courtesy of Rajmata Gayatri Devi & her friend Mrs Zorawar Singh. He painted over 25-30 sketches & paintings on the various Army Rissala's, Cavalries, Lancers, Polo & horses.
Husain would spend long hours watching young cavalry officers play practice & polo chukkars on the private cavalry polo grounds next to the Cavalry officers mess in Khatipura.
He actually painted a live horse in the middle of Connaught Place in the early 90s at Happenings, belonging to koel & Kali Puri, during an art opening.
To his mind the horse was a metaphor for freedom and he craved to be so free himself that he didn’t want to be shackled by anything.
MF Husain was hoisted by The Maharani of Jaipur, Rajmata Gayatri Devi and The Jaipur Rissala between 1992 and 1995. The eminent painter spent his joyful days at the Jaipur Rissala which is
presently known as the 61st Cavalry, staying in the cavalry officer's mess.
Talking of Rajmata Gayatri Devi, she strongly hoped that the market will lead to the arts coming into a happier position - as she said, art is the last thing people invest in when they have bought their real estate, jewels, cars and other expensive toys.
She believed patronage was needed to support the artists for they are our heritage & repositories of culture. Both visual & performing artists & artistes needed to be given a better economic deal that gives them the freedom to create without having to worry where their next meal was going to come from.
Art is a very erratic pay master, she pushed for schemes to be launched by Rajasthan Government to bring more artists within its ambit - after all, if assured work can be provided at the rural level for development, why not for artists, artistes & artisans?
She wrote to the government to explore the possibility of taking a fresh look at arts management and create an arts cadre that will help run the several thousand arts institutions in the country.
Introducing professional courses in institutes like IIM could be the first step to market the arts better towards the end of making the arts self sufficient. Steps need to be taken urgently to undo the damage wreaked by unscrupulous art galleries. In their race to extract their profits they raised the prices of art to unsustainable levels, leaving many artists in the country in pitiable conditions.
She supported artists in best possible ways for sustainable growth. She acquired for her personal collections and gifting to her close friends, art works of upcoming and established Indian painters. Her homes Indian painters adorn the walls. I personally remember an incident where on my retuem from Delhi polo season, I mentioned to her about the plight and hard times Mr Gaitonde had fallen on as he along with Ramkumar, Manjit Bawa, Khanna were closely associated with the cavalry and were regulars to the Jaipur Polo grounds at Delhi.
Princesses Lalitya, her husband and her lovely children and Maharaj Devraj bring her great honor. They are doing extremely well and very humble and beautiful in their demeanor. May Hanuman bless them.

I know only one thing ....agar MFH pan khake canvas pe pichkari thuk bhi denge to bhi unka painting 50lak me bikega..😀

M.F. HUSSAIN PAINTS HO...:---
SIR,
I AM MYSELF A PAINTER . I BELIEVE A PAINTER HAS FREEDOM AND WITH IN THAT LIMIT HE CAN DO HIS CREATION.
HIS PAINTING ABILITIES NO ONE DESPISED OR CURBED HERE IN FREE INDIA .
IN INDIA MANY WERE HIS FANS, HINDUS OUTNUMBERED MUSLIMS AS HIS FANS.
M. F. HUSSAIN WAS NOT ONLY A GOOD PAINTER BUT ALSO A FANATICAL (ZALEEL) MUSLIM TO THE CORE.
IN THE NAME OF ARTISTC FREEDOM, THIS FANATICAL MUSLIM PAINTED SITA OF RAMAYANA HAVING INTERCOURSE WITH HANUMAN, WHOM HINDUS LOOK UPON WITH GREAT REVERENCE. HE PAINTED GODESS SARASWATHI IN TOTAL NUDE FORM TO SHOW LOW OF HINDUS, THEIR GODS AND GODESSES. HiS OTHER INTENSION WAS TO SHOW HOW GREAT ISLAM IS.
WHILE THE HINDUS NEVER HAD ANY OBJECTION IF HE WANTD TO SHOW THE GREATNESS OF ISLAM, WHAT RIGHT HE HAD TO DEPICT MOTHER SEETHA IN COMPROMISING POSITION WITH HANUMAN, REWRIGHTING RAMAYANA AS A WHOLE. THIS OFFENDED NOT ONLY ALL HINDUS BUT ALSO HUNDU RELIGION, WHERE IN MOTHER SEETHA IN RAYANA IS LOOKED UPON AS THE EMBODIMENT OF WOMANHOOD.
WHEN PEACEFULLY PROTESTED BY THE HINDUS, THIS FANATIC MUSLIM DID NOT HAD THE COURTESY TO APPOLOGIZE FOR HIS WRONG DOING AND TRIED HIS BEST TO SCHIELD UNDER ARTISTC FREEDOM.
HE DESERVED HIS FINAL END. HINDUS BEING A PEACE LOVING PEOPLE SPARED HIS LIFE
HE LEFT THE COUNTRY BEFORE HE WAS KICKED OUT AND DIED IN A DISTANT LAND WHERE NO ONE WAS THERE tO PUT HIS ZALEEL BODY INTO GRAVE.
SOME HOW HE ESCAPED THE HINDU WRATH. AND GOT WHAT HE DESERVED

Great footage of one of India’s greatest artists 🙏
Great artist & great human..picasso of india.
Ankit Gupta one doesn’t need to be Picasso or Frida Kahlo, Hussain was Hussain in his own way, rather in his Gajagamini way so was Amrita Shergil, remember a picture live by its legend and not by anything else..
Why can not we call then Picasso was Hussain of Spain ? Both were fascinating in their own way
Lol
Watch nityam singha roy art work. Can anyone explaing how he create that grainy texture.
Please make more videos
No doubt he is great , but he had also painted nude Indian GODS , ..... BY INDIAN ,I mean Hindu....... For example Durga mata. And many more.....
Just imagine we had done something like that to our Muslims brother religion .......
Go and search if you don't believe me........ I hate him for that....
Why u filming his toes
Why he didnt use paint on his own, always made nude on hindu god
Jayesh Garchar please visit kajuraho or any south temples. You could see mural paintings with nude paintings of hindu goddesses and gods, as well. So before commenting, its better to know that he was not the first one to paint so. But was probably the first muslim, and hence the gritty feeling.
Even Raja Ravi Varma drew nude paintings of Hindu culture. You're just brainwashed and salty. Keep your garbage opinion to yourself.
There is no right and wrong when it comes to art. Its just art.
