    Sound advice Matt once again thanks. I really wish I’d watched this before my round yesterday as it would have helped me focus a little bit more - I hit 94 but have managed to bring my scores down from 100+ so I do feel I’m making progress at least!

      Willierob Roggz let me tell you a very brief story about my luck with water, my local course has hole 1 and 9 parallel with eachother, nice little pond on hole 1, completely dry on hole 9, i found that little pond on hole 1 last time i played… whilst teeing off on the 9th 🤣🤦‍♂️ thats about 35 yards off line and finds a little 15foot pond over the trees, unbelievable🤣 i mean the water was out of sight and out of mind and i still got it in there😂

    Great stuff as ever Matt, particularly regarding the use of the sand wedge. I do think though that over water, taking a 4 iron off that tee is more likely to be the choice of a more confident and accomplished player than someone trying to break 90. It is a driver for me every time!

    I broke 100 a few times last year, I’m aiming for 90 this year.
    The best tip I received is get good at 100-120 yards, and get your ball there in one or two shots. After that it’s learning to lag putt and pretending every bogey is a par (72+18=90). Turning every par 5 into a par 6 has transformed my game into something that looks respectable on a card.

    • @diogeneslantern18
      @diogeneslantern18 3 года назад

      Par 3s are really holes you should be trying to par. But I understand the psychology of "bogey" par.
      Edit: par 5s..

    • @stevenwitcher8087
      @stevenwitcher8087 3 года назад

      @@diogeneslantern18 you should be trying to “birdie” them under this system. They’re good opportunities for “catching up” to your new par. But if part of your problem is trouble off the tee, or topping long irons or woods, you can still give yourself an up and down 5 on a par 5 playing a 7 iron for the first 3 shots.
      When you’re a high handicapper minimizing risk is more important than striving for a certain number. Hit clubs you’re comfortable with even if they add a stroke, because the ones you aren’t good with will add more.

  • @georgep7925

    so my goal right now isnt 100 but breaking 50 for 9 holes. but i just bought a set of clubs that are extended because im 6'4 but not exactly fitted and now i have a horrible problem of thinning every single shot no matter what. Ive tried every adjustment i can but i always end up in the same problem. ive hit a 52 about 4 times now but i know i could easily cut minimum 5 strokes if i could get past this issue.

    I think it would be helpful to show the audience how to get out of trouble and still break 90. Most likely if you’re trying to break 90 there will be a bad drive or two to deal with.

  • @rdj3video
    @rdj3video 2 года назад

    It could be 92 to 102…but then there was the 88.
    He’s nailed these points, although off the tee I MAY still hit driver simply because I have more confidence in it than a long iron which in my case would actually be a 7 wood. Sure I know I can hit a shorter shot that has a higher probability of being a tighter dispersion, but still no guarantee it’s staying on the planet. Quality of strike issues just like his anecdote on the approach shot.
    Approach still kills me…Par 3 tee shots are “approach shots” that usually frustrate me. Too many double bogeys from 150-180. Otherwise I don’t hit very many greens in regulation. My guess is improved approach shots will be the key to take 90 down to 85 or lower. Right now I’m still trying to get the ball closer to the hole with a club that leaves the ball on the same golf hole.
    The short game and putting are practice, practice, practice away from the course. I’ve been leaning on the 54 degree wedge. Sprinkle in some reps with the 46, 50, and 58 to see how things differ. Way more confidence when I force myself to get comfortable with the wedges. May not give it enough or may give it too much, but the ball gets duffed and scalded less often.
    Speed control on putting. Some of the 6 to 12 footers will randomly fall or result in a reasonable 2nd putt from a foot.
    My first legit break 90 was an 88 on a par 70, but it included a lost ball, a water hazard and a few hooked/slices drives. Mentally most of my poor shots felt playable, but it was easy to accept “recover back to the fairway” over trying the hero shot in a few situations..

    All of these “break 90” videos Operate under the assumption that all of us trying to do it are just awful at golf. I cant be the only person like me that’s watching these videos that is actually a pretty skilled player that just hasn’t put a round together yet. I know that I’m skilled enough to break 90 and maybe even 85, but I always have at least 2 or 3 holes that are triples or worse. It’s heartbreaking tbh
