  • Hi Guys
I decided to visit the German Embassy, and it never ceases to amaze me when the police end up calling the police.
In this case it was the German police calling the British police, let the education commence and the subsequent German walk of shame.
I rather enjoyed this one and I hope you guys do to.

they are given diplomatic status when working in German embassies. That being said you are a British Citizen on British Sovereign Territory. They have no legal; durisdiction and are actually breaking the law. You could have then arrested. Sadly, very few Police Officers in the UK bother to read any memos are orders issued by Chief Officers. There many incidents of police harressment of innocent film makers makers doing what is quite legal. They will try to accuse people of being suspected terrorists. In London the Diplomatic protection Group will tend to side with the foreign embassy security people and not protect you from illegal harrassement by agents of a foreign power.

    GERMANY:
Filming and photography: This is not allowed in public
Basically, the Art Copyright Act (KunstUrhG) sets out what you have to consider if you want to take photos in public. The following is recorded there:
People depicted in public may only be filmed or photographed with their consent. In particular, the distribution and display of such images without consent is punishable according to paragraph 22.
You are also not allowed to take any photos that could harm the person depicted or invade their privacy.
If you take pictures of private buildings, you may not publish them or use them for commercial purposes without the owner's consent if they were taken from private space.
This is especially true if you take pictures of portraits that are not fully visible on public grounds. For example, consider a photo that shows an area of private property behind a fence.
If you take photos or films in public places such as a gallery or museum, you are not allowed to publish the images if they contain copyrighted works.
Even at events such as theater performances, you are not allowed to publish pictures and, above all, film recordings without permission.
Museums, galleries and theaters often explicitly state that filming or photography is not permitted there, so always pay attention to the instructions there.
    Exceptions to the above paragraph
There are some exceptions that allow you to take and publish recordings in public without the consent of the people or owners, despite Section 22. This is where the freedom of panorama comes into play in particular:
Photographs in which people appear only as an accompaniment to the actual photograph may be taken and published without consent.
This is the case, for example, when you photograph famous sights such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
This also applies to portraits from the area of contemporary history.
Photos of music gatherings and parades are also affected by this exception.
And in the spirit of the so-called freedom of panorama, you are allowed to take pictures of sculptures, fountains, passages, buildings, atriums, monuments, relief murals or, for example, house passages in public spaces without permission.
However, the prerequisite for freedom of panorama is that the street images mentioned are in common use and freely accessible to the public.
It is therefore important that you ask permission before publishing an image in a magazine, uploading it to social media channels or, for example, printing it on leaflets if one of the exceptions listed does not apply.

Even though trespass law still applies, if there is no "obvious" area of non-entry or border then all is fair game to the photographer and you are free to wander until asked to leave. Change of pavement colour or road colour does no constitute an obvious barrier or border. Only a fence, wall, hedge, closed gate or sign saying No Entry" or "No unauthorised persons beyond this point" (or in this case, "German territory beyond this point. Keep out or you will be shot") types of things are obvious barriers or borders. Even though Embassies are technically foreign territory, you are still entitled to photograph them and the land they sit on from British territory. As with any other organisation or business it is their responsibility to have solid barriers in place to stop the prying eye or camera from seeing within if they do not like that sort of thing.
