Replacing some spark suppression capacitors that had exploded previously.
Thanks for the video. Good to see something from the 70's still going strong thanks to you. It's a common issue with new capacitors being smaller than the ones they're replacing, which is fine until you find yourself in the situation you encountered where the solder pads and holes in the PCB are too far apart. You did a good job adapting the component leads to suit. I keep longer trimmings from component leads just for such an occasion.

Nice video. I like the simplicity of this turntable and agree about the speed switch. Why invent the mechanism like that when there are plenty of rotary switches (which are probably cheaper too). I wonder what they were thinking? It's a nice looking turntable, amazing for a find int eh dump! Thanks for posting!
Higher voltage capacitors probably will fit perfectly. I had same problem in my Revox A77 when I was replacing RIFA caps on relay board, 150V didn't fit so I put 400V ones which are same size as old ones.
By the way, nice record player.

Nice Unit! I have a Pioneer PL-400 and I love it. it was lower-end for the time, but its miles ahead of the cheap crosley crap thats out there now.
That's not really difficult... even the relatively nasty midi-sized TTs from the 1990s that were included with systems as a separate unit are miles ahead of the Chinese units now. I have an old Goodmans deck of this type; it has an Audio Technica T4P magnetic cartridge and reasonable quality (albeit DC) motor. It sounds OK and doesn't hack up records (tracking weight of 1.8grams). I honestly can't see how that deck could be any more expensive to build than the modern Chinese junk, but still they don't seem to be able to make a respectable cheapo deck.
Nice video! Hoping you could help me out...recently purchased a Hitachi PS-48 and need to find out if the stock Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge and headshell will work with the tonearm? Have contacted multiple companies to see if the Nagaoka headshell will work? Seems like you would be a perfect person to ask based on your video before I buy both. Thanks!
These Hitachi record players take standard SME headshells, from what I can tell that is also what the Nagaoka cartridge comes with. So it should fit, though you may have to reposition the cartridge on the headshell a bit to get the alignment right.

Is there a lubrication point for the main bearing on the PS-38?
