- Things got better after I exited the Thorny Path. In fact, hurricane Cindy stole the Trade Winds when she passed further north and I was forced to motor sail the last three days. This gave me time to fix some broken stuff.

We are two crazies from South Africa, Frik & Petro. We knew absolutely nothing about sailing, but the ocean has always been calling. So, we got rid of all our stuff, bought a Leopard 45 Catamaran, and set sail. Follow us as this story unfolds! This is a sea-life adventure captained by a couple of nomads who have built their lives on doing what inspires them in the moment. Join us and see how we break free of the traditional lifestyle, creating videos of our journey, adventures, life on board, and lessons learned along the way. It will be super rewarding if we can be an inspiration or contribute in any way to anybody wanting to fulfil their dreams.
Follow us on our journey as we learn from legends when Sailing La Vagabonde upgraded from a monohull to a catamaran...SV Delos wants to upgrade to the latest Amel 51 monohull.... Gone with the Wynns chose a Leopard Catamaran and now upgraded to a HH44OC.... choices choices choices. We looked at other sailing channels such as Wicked Salty, Satori, Jessica and Ryan, Catamaran Impi, MJ Sailing, Happy Together, Sailing Uma, Sailing Yacht Ruby Rose, Zingaro, Miss Lone Star, Sailing Doodles, Drenched, Lucky Fish gets Away, RAN Sailing, Out Chasing Star, Follow the Boat, Rigging Doctor, Sailing Lady Africa, Abandon Comfort, and many others to find our answers and solutions, whilst we prepared our yacht in Cape Town, South Africa.
SISU (Finnish concept) is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage in situations where success is against the odds. Taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures.

Hell yes brother ya made it!!! Now that the Admiral is home you're gonna be fine. Glad to see you back Petra!!! 👍❤️🇺🇸
Thank you, Christopher for the kind words and support! Yes, Petro was surely missed!
Sorry for the misspelled Petro
Just a tip, not complaining about the UI, but from my own experience it is well worth it to get an hour or two from a UX expert just get some perspectives on it. Was an eye-opener to me, especially since one quickly gets tunnel vision about those things.
Thank you! Any advice from your side?
@@SailingSisu What I realized when I did that was that I shouldn't give advice on UI design. 🙂
But try to get user feedback as early and as ruthless (from them) as possible.
So don't try to do perfect from any regard, just get it out there.
It doesn't replace the professional opinion, but is equally as important.
@@SailingSisu Looking around, I would add a help page that explains the concepts of the app, how you think it is supposed to be used.
And things like schedule views, or perhaps better, integrate with the calendar, and so on.
What is in each upgrade is also a little bit confusing as it is not separated.
Those are things an expert can help you think about how to build and manage. (UX is not only about the visuals, but usability and so on)
Groete daar...Ek geniet julle avontuur!!! Groete vir julle❤🎉
Baie dankie! En dankie vir die comment!
Het almal nou darem weer uitgerus? Genoeg Geslaap en als?

Thanks guys, and welcome home Petro 😊
Thanx, Trev!
Hi Frik, that was quite a journey and aside from a few minor mishaps, I'd say it went just as well as it could have and your video's of the trip I thought provided us with as much detail as we could have asked for,. Especially with the navigation/charting shots.... I'm curious as to where the water was getting into the bilges of both hulls and hope it was an easy fix. Thanks
Peter, first thank you for the kind comment! As for the water ingress...I never got down to exact reason since it only happens when we are in rough seas...but, I tightened the bolts on the Bob Stays and did not see any ingress. But that said, I also very recently discovered rust marks below my forward peak hatches' "breathing" openings, those black round things on the windows, and I noticed a lot of salt crystals around the walls of the inside peak. So, it might be another point of water ingress since the bows were awash constantly...
Welkom terug petro❤️
Baie dankie, Frik!
PS. Just a thought, why not use the phone camera to tide you over? For example, the pictures my sister took with her iPhone 14 of the Northern Lights Auroras were simply stunning and few nights ago. Best wishes. Bob. ❤
Not sure what exactly is the question, but yeah, iPhone definitely takes some very good pictures!
@@SailingSisu Well just wondering if the phone cameras you have, that came with the phone, would be good enough to tide you over for a little while? I bet it’s not just me that misses seeing you both? Best wishes, and Safe travels. Bob.🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️
The word "tide" is throwing me but I think I get your accent now The video quality is good, but since we are almost always in the wind, the sound will be awful.
As a fellow South African, I really enjoy following your adventures. Thanks.
Thank you, Mark! We sure try to make the best sailing videos 😅 always good to hear that we sometimes get it right!
As ek wil doen wat julle doen hoe doen ek dit waar begin ek en kry n mens dit reg ek en my vrou het België toe getrek om hier te kom werk om meer geld te spaar om n boot te kan koop but some times it feels its never gonna happen how how does one actually get there to be able to afford a boat and then to make it sustainable it feels like I'm missing a big picture and a lot of information would be awesome to hear back from you guys.. lots of support Michiel&Elodie van uit België
Why no videos
Bloody good question!
@SailingSisu are you oaks still alive?
Yeah, still on the boat. Still loving each other. Still sailing. Still loving it.
Ons mis julle videos
Epic journey. Well done.
Thank you for your awesome support and presence on our channel!
When will Petro return ? we really enjoy your videos .
She's back, she is in this video.
Yes, she features in the end of the video 😉
Where the line broke up front on the canvas: try tying a knot above and below every 5th hole. Then the line will likely only rip a few holes. 😅
Thank you, very sound advice!
Hi Frik and Petro. Hope you're both well. Miss seeing your RUclips videos. Hope you'll be posting something soon.
Regards Colleen from Cape Town
Ahoy, dear viewers! We're alive, kicking, and still riding the waves of the sailing life. But hey, turns out, making videos isn't just about sailing smoothly through the seas; it's about dodging the expenses of fancy equipment and the whirlpool of time it sucks up! We didn't want to sound like broken records, constantly chanting 'Become our Patreon!' while waving a pirate flag. Plus, relying solely on viewers to spread the word without giving them a nudge felt a bit like expecting a ship to sail without wind. So, we're adjusting our sails and focusing on ways to keep the ship afloat without leaving you high and dry. Stay tuned, mateys!
Hey you 2 'crazies' - hope yr both ok 'cause its been a while since you posted something ? Goed gaan....
Ahoy, mates! While we're still riding the waves of the sailing life and enjoying every splash of it, let's talk about why our videos have been as elusive as a mermaid lately. You see, capturing the magic of the sea requires some serious treasure, and our video equipment demanded more gold than a dragon's hoard. And as much as we love you all, we didn't want to turn into video-pushing pirates, or worse, beggars on the dock. So, we're setting sail on a new course, focusing on ways to keep our ship afloat while still bringing you the adventures you crave. Stay tuned, we're plotting some exciting new voyages!
Hi Guys. I hope you both are doing OK as well as Sisu - seems things have been a bit iffy wearherwise ? 🤔❤ Best Wishes, Fair Winds and Safe Travels. Bob. 🌟🌟❤️
Ahoy, mates! While we're still alive and kicking (and sailing), our video-making ship hit a bit of a squall. You see, capturing our adventures is like trying to lasso a wild sea serpent - expensive and time-consuming! We've been avoiding the plank of asking ye to fork over doubloons on Patreon, which nowadays seems as popular as a leaky boat. So, we've decided to swab the decks and focus on other ways to keep the rum flowing. Stay tuned, we'll be back with more tales from the high seas soon!
@@SailingSisu Phew thanks for the update ! With some of the Mr Weatherman forecasts looking really iffy, I was starting to wonder. Sadly I’m still almost as penniless as prior, though my small amount of Silver Bullion could increase in value a lot by year end, or I’d be able to help chip in towards a Camera. Still recovering fast from Respiratory Failure and Heart Failure though, Best wishes and Safe Travels. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️🏴🇬🇧
Lightning! Ahhhh! Hate that stuff. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
The biggest fear for sailors, are not big seas, or sharks, or sinking, it is lightning. One can do absolutely nothing about it. In my previous life, I was a Telemetry Electronic Engineer and once you realise that that energy bolt travelled 1,000m to your puny 10cm lightning protection stuff, you know when Nature comes calling...
Where have they got too ?
Ahoy, mates! Fear not, we're still afloat and thriving in the salty seas of life. But let's face it, crafting those epic videos requires more booty than just a few doubloons. We're navigating the treacherous waters of prioritization and charting a new course to keep the sails billowing and the coins flowing. Stay tuned as we plot our next adventure on the high seas of content creation!
…. “Bloody good question” how’s about a bloody good answer? 🤔

@@SailingSisu Good to know you guys have your heads above water. That’s my only concern. I’m ex South African and have to know what’s going on with my “family “. 🤗
Woohoo earnt a beer or 3 on that trip eh nice one mate
Thank you, Ned!
