The actor who played Jar Jar almost took his own life due to the constant criticism. He took a photo of him and his young son standing in the spot, and explained how he had told his son the story in an act of being totally honest and vulnerable to teach his son a powerful lesson. The photo recently went viral and he is now doing talks on helping people with depression to seek help. As someone who used to rag on the JarJar character myself, this really made me take a step back and realize our words carry more power than we could ever imagine.
No she knows they are shite. She dodged the question about the character by making it about the talent of the actor, who is indeed very talented. I also think it is shameful of the interviewer to ask this question after all these years, knowing that the poor man became suicidal in the wake of the films horrible reviews from fans.
MrProofMan she’s made it clear that she enjoyed being a part of them as well as enjoying watching them. She hasn’t shown them to her kids, since they’re not only young but the character she plays also dies in the third installment. I mention that she hasn’t shown them to her kids, because for many that proof that she doesn’t like them, when that’s not true. People do enjoy to projecting their hate onto others whenever this topic arises with a member of the Star Wars prequels. Also, she was building a very good career before Star Wars with films like Léon: the Professional, Heat and Mars Attacks. I’m sure she’d have a fine career even if she wasn’t a part of Star Wars, but Star Wars did help propel her into the spotlight more than she was already in.
Ooo that was a legit good dodge by Natalie. She didn't have anything good to say about the character, so praise the actor. Admirable way to spin the answer into a positive, well played.
Disgusting... She's not an object. Women.... are not objects. Natalie Portman is an incredibly talented, highly intelligent Harvard graduate but you're so busy looking at her legs you wouldn't know WHAT she's accomplished.
mary anne Believe it or not, we can admire someone's legs and also be completely aware and appreciative of how amazing and smart the person they belong to is. We're not single minded.
Mary Anne was way hotter than Ginger on Gilligans Isle. She stayed hot too where as Ginger deterioted rapidly. I rarely care much what feminists say. Most are to ugly for consideration. That's pretty much why they're femenists.
She didn't say anything about Jar Jar. All she said was that she didn't like how Ahmed Best was treated, which I think most people now agree with, even those who absolutely hate the choices that Lucas made for Jar Jar. She intentionally shifted the thought to him instead of the character which says all that needs to be said. She didn't want to say she hated the character but she didn't love it either. Ahmed should have been given better direction not to use that particular voice, had he been told to use a different one, he would have. And I'm sure that the entire character would have been made to fit the voice.
@ClandestineOstrich I absolutely love, love Star wars Prequels. They are my favorite part of SW universe. I disagree with anyone who states that they are bad. They are the best and the most original and rich in story star wars movies in my opinion. Only bad star wars movies are Disney SW crap. TFA is the worst SW movie ever. Rip off of ANH. Jar Jar is just a funny character for childrens, just like C3PO and Ewoks. I would take SW Prequels 1000000000000 times more over that Disney crap they call Star wars.
Finally, a little love in Jar Jar's direction! Sure, his execution was messy, but there was a good basic idea behind him and I will defend it to the end!
Coincidentally Milas dad is also a doctor. Maybe doctor dad's just make better kissing children. More importantly, why the hell do I know this about these two incosiquential women to me. I need to get off the internet now.
Good for Natalie. It's one thing if you don't like the character with the send the actor death threats that is on a whole new level of stupidity. And I had a friend who actually met him it Star Wars day at Disney and say he is just the nicest guy.
I was born in 1986, so i remember natalie portman from when her career exploded after the phantom menace. I always remember her as a fresh faced teenage girl, so it's weird to see her now as a lady in her late 30s.
The kids love Jar Jar, so many old timers don’t seem to grok that. When George Lucas said Star Wars is for kids, the old timers respond: “Nooooooooo!” Who’d know better than the one who invented the saga
Joe Nesvick if you think George Lucas was the only one responsible for Star Wars then you’re dead wrong, he didn’t even direct the original trilogy outside of A New Hope. Lucas and his work prospers when he has people around him who contribute to his initial ideas and alter them. When he was brought back for the prequels, since everybody only attributes his name for Star Wars like you do, they just gave him total control and nobody to question or contribute with him. If you consider him the creator of the saga, when he directed 1/3 of the original movies, then you’re just misinformed. He’s definitely important but the original trilogy wasn’t good solely because of him. You can have a character for kids that’s funny without constant low bro, low effort poop jokes and slapstick.
Logan Carlile if you bothered to watch all the bonus features, you’d know the first three films had just as many people working under George than the last three films that came before. It’s not like the original trilogy was perfect in any way. Heck, Revenge of the Sith is so much darker than The Empire Strikes Back and so much better than Return of the Jedi. Episode 6 has Ewoks, not to mention that infamous musical number. I once met a guy who said he walked out of The Empire Strikes Back because it was too dark for him, I can only imagine how he’d feel about Revenge of the Sith. Let’s not forget that most people would put The Last Jedi under Attack of the Clones
Nothing wrong with the Jar Jar Binks character. Unfortunately all the kids that saw the original Star Wars Trilogy in the theaters interest in Star Wars did not grow up with them as they thought it did. There was so many goofy characters in Star Wars from the very beginning. Jabba the Hutt, C3PO, Greedo, and Chewbacca. But they're fun characters. I love every single character especially jar jar. People just need to grow up and realize these are kids movies. If adults love them that's great but unfortunately they have to remember it's a kids movie franchise. At least the George Lucas ones were
Mate, the whole these are kids movies excuse collapses when you realise, in a movie that has a character like Jar Jar, there is also extensive scenes of political dialogue. the Original trilogy are more family movies, movies that can be enjoyed by everyone. The prequels are just a tonally confused mess. Also how can you call Greedo a fun character? He's in the movie for like two seconds and doesn't do anything.
@@JG1570 Well aside from he is wildly irritating, just because it's a kids movie, doesn't mean you don't have to try. There are plenty of kids movies with good comic relief that have smartly written jokes, not just a character acting stupid.

They relied way too much of CGI for practically everything, specially backdrops/locations which gave the movies a kinda cartoonish vibe, and the fact that they explained the Force as some kinda bacteria living inside the Jedis was just fucking way.
