Baha a brochure’s also what came to mind about that Rilke edition😂 Your vlogs are quickly becoming my favourite comfort content out there, I just adore them with my whole heart. Also ooh Amatka is on my list might pick it up soon!
looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Amatka! And that is a perfect compliment, because I watch your videos for the very same reason :))
Great vlog once again! I really love the music, so soothing and beautiful, as is the video! I love the ducks, so plump and pretty!
And omg so many books! Now I want to read Howl's moving castle even more. The Miyazaki adaptation is in my top three of his movies (n°1 being Spirited away and then I hesitate between Howl's moving castle & Kiki) and while I gifted it to my older sister a few years back, I still haven't read it.
Letters to a young poet is absolutely my next poetry related book I want to read, I can't wait till it's available once more at my library.
As for short stories collections, I must say I always hesitate to pick some. I'm not too sure they're for me. I have loved a few, but it tended to be stories by one author only. And even then I don't think I've read that many since the only ones that come to mind are by Neil Gaiman and Alice Munro. Which is sad because in theory it's a great way to discover new authors or genres.
yes! read howl’s! it’s so lovely! i feel the same way about short stories - i’ve hade much better success when it’s from one author. ❤️
Yes, Howls Moving Castle - though I would be biased to all the 🏴 books, wouldn’t I 😛
Did not know she was welsh! Then I know exactly what landscape to picture in my mind!
I've got lots of love for all my diana wynne jones books! I started by reading her chrestomancy chronicles books first, but now my copy of howl's moving castle is one of the books i try to lend out the most cause I know people will love it 🤗
I really understand why! This is making me want to check out more of her writing! :)
Those Ducks must have been after that Blizzard- yum! Short story collections are often a bit hit and miss but Jagannath sounds really good- I went to add it to my TBR but it was already on there 🤦♀️. Your library sounds as though it has the same system as ours at the moment Ziggi- I miss browsing 😔
Me and the ducks all want blizzard cake!! And now that I've read a few more stories I can still say Jagannath is worth reading, it feels well-crafted!
I didn't know Howls Moving Castle was an adaptation 😱 I am shocked
Right?? It's super cozy and well worth reading!
Short stories are so hard for me to get into. I read the Egg by Andy Wier, The Paper Menagerie by Ken Lui and the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman this year. I either end up disliking them because of not enough character development or liking the characters and the story and wanting more.
I need to try more and find the type of short story for me.
much love,
amy
i also read the yellow wallpaper this year :) i understand your point, it sometimes feels like short stories leave you hanging. but there are really well crafted ones that introduce concepts, and ”complete their mission” in just a few pages. My favourite at the moment are by Jorge Louis Borges, who only ever wrote short stories and really perfected the craft!
This was such a lovely video! Thank you!
I would love to befriend you on goodreads, but I'm leaving it at the end of the year and upload my data to TheStoryGraph instead. I want to support them (against amazon) and it also seems to be an app that really appreciates the reader.
Oh, I love Rilke! He is sometimes a bit too religious for my taste, but overall I love the melancholy in his poems. And you were absolutely right about how this edition looks like! This was the first reminiscence that came to my mind as well. 😂
I also wanted to switch to story graph, maybe i should make another attempt... bc yes it is definitely an app i want to support. I've enjoyed most of the Rilke I've come across so far, some was a bit too abstract and I could not grasp what was going on. For me he is the kind of poet that makes me wish I was more religious than I am, because his descriptions of it are very compelling to me :)
