    I did the TAT in 2009 and made the same comments about the route hazards and washed-out/broken bridges, which we all crossed and did not have to re-route around. I started out with 4 other riders from California to Jellico TN via pavement. We had off-road tires shipped to the Motel in Jellico and swapped out the worn-out street tires for Knobbies. One of the biggest Hazards I ran into was slick-as-snot mud in Moab UT and the farmlands of Oklahoma. I rode along from mid-Oklahoma to Richfield Utah, where I met up with two other TAT riders. The 3 of us made it to the Oregon Coast. I believe my TAT albums are still on Adventure Rider (Reno Deano).

      I am considering doing the route from the Oregon coast Eastward to Colorado, which I consider to be the best part of the Original TAT.

    Whoa, the TAT seems like an incredible adventure! My initial visit to Arkansas didn't prepare me for its stunning beauty. Anticipating the upcoming episodes eagerly! Thanks for sharing this with all of us.👊

    Looks like a challenging ride from the get go. Wonder how many riders have made it to Arkansas then said "to hell with this" and went back home?

    This is my kinda riding - back roads and dirt roads and mild off road but no highly technical stuff like on some of the more adventurous BDRs. I'm getting too old for that. I can't decide if I want to ride the TAT, or have my GPS make my own TAT. I'm leaning toward the latter. The OSMand app is very good about finding great motorcycle routes. My default profile is ADVbike, which I configured to avoid highways. I can pick an intermediate destination in the direction I want to go and it'll take me on back roads. If it selected a major secondary road and I'm wanting smaller roads with more twisties rather than the Americana experience of "get your kicks on Route 66", I can quickly set an intermediate waypoint or two to force it to take smaller roads or visit specific spots I want to see (Pie Town, the Very Large Array radio telescope, Cadillac Ranch, Bug Ranch, etc.). If I'm not following the TAT, I can never be off route, although a recent day ride in Ohio still had five road closures so that's not exclusive to the TAT. You complained about trying to follow a little squiggly line on a tiny display. I'm running OSMand on a 10" Samsung tablet mounted to the handlebars. My old eyes love it. I also have the option to turn on audible navigation into my intercom so it gives me plenty of warning of upcoming turns.
    Richard as a trailing camera vehicle is even better than an Insta360 camera on a stick. 😀
    If I wasn't already pleased as punch with my little adventure bike, I'd probably get one of those KLX300s.
    As always, huge thanks for sharing. It's very entertaining but also very motivational.

      pretty sure it would not be very hard to duplicate a personal TAT - rerouting would become less disappointing, as you are adding more adventure when you create your route from scratch

    Hello there! I am planing to do the TAT next year may could you tell me what was your budget or how much money you spent in total? thank you ! awesome videos!!

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  5 месяцев назад

      If you are looking to do it on a budget - $30-50/ day is reasonable. You could get it down lower but I don't like being miserable. (Does not include any maintenance or tires)

    There was a single track dirt bike rider out of Idaho. He would carry a chainsaw on the front of him 300XCW and would clear the trails. Not sure how he fid that.

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  9 месяцев назад +1

      Been telling the story of my buddy from Idaho for a few years now - they ALL carry chainsaws strapped to the forks - riding the singletrack up there you will find out pretty quickly why - trees on the trail, every 50 feet. The rangers give them all the freedom need too, most bike friendly state I have EVER been in, maybe the best singletraqck too?

    I saw in one of your other videos you were using a haven hammock. I have one also but it seems like the air mattress will try to fold up in the middle and make a taco out of you.....Lol Did this happen to you in yours, and do you know of a solution?

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  9 месяцев назад

      warranty return is the only solution, I am no longer supporting or endorsing Haven, sadly :(
