I really appreciate that you guy's are doing these lessons so passionately and so full of detail all for free. The difference that it's made with my own shots or skill level is huge! 10yrs ago you would of thought you could only get this kind of knowledge from a photography course at a school. So thank you very much.
Gavin is one of my favorite photographer because he shows how to do a lot of different type of photography in a small studio!!! Not everyone has a lots of money for a hugs studio. Thanks Gavin!!!!
My goodness, those worked out GREAT! I have never seen anyone being as good with lighting as you. Really, really great! But what I love most about your videos is you, being a very down-to-earth guy, not boasting, not sassy like sooo many other photographers on RUclips.
These videos are amazing! I love how you Hoey always takes his time to demonstrate what every single light with every setup (like before and after diffusers) does to the scene. Really great work!
Gavin inspires me a lot and I learn a lot. Without very expensive gears and small studio we still can make awesome photos. I watch also a lot the other photographers on YT but their gears, lighting etc are very expensive and often too complicated lighting set up.
Hi Gavin, thank you for this tutorial. I believed your photography tutorials are much more magical. Not just you magically present your videos richly magically enriching, it is also magically pleasing to watch. Your smiles are big magic too. That magic on stretching the light at the end is a real sorcery! Awesome pose Anton. Merry Christmas everyone
Hey Adorama, why is Gavin's videos (play list) not on the front page anymore. Always look forward to his videos more then many others you have listed..
i learned the valuable lighting structure from this video, which i'd always wanted to know for the dramatic effect, thanks to Gavin. And Anton seems to surely know how to pose~ & what to show, which made the photos looked even more dramatic & mysterious. Great results.
Nice Job! I have several of the 360 WS Streak lights they are great because they are pretty well made, light to carry around and I can change the power independently on each one from the transmitter.
Always love the videos Gavin. Thank you! The shot of him with the cards at the 7:20 mark would have been really cool with just a hint of smoke from your smoke machine too I think. 👍🏻
I haven't written a lot about how Mr Gavin Hoey and Mark Wallace and others have effected my start in actually holding a Camera several years ago. studying with Beyonce's online for 15 to 16 years didn't hurt being able to pick up on a lot those giants creativity. I saw Mr. Hoey and his Ps work with a girl holding a lamp in the snow a couple of years ago, i was hooked with those guys since then. it's been limitless attempts of creativity starting to bloom for me _ thanks guys I've even began to print photos
Great video as always. In the past you were using a full frame and an APSC BUT for the last year or so you started to use an Olympus MFT body .... so do you find it better than Full Frame?
I switched to Olympus back in June 2015... is it better? Well it depends on what you shoot. I get more depth of field then full frame, I get less back and wrist discomfort. Flip side I get more noise at high ISO but as I shoot mostly with flash at low ISO that's not an issue for me.
Very cool! I am just getting into photography and my wife asked me who my favorite photographer is and I said Gavin Hoey. :) You are very creative and do great work in a minimal space and with minimal equipment. Your the reason why I bought the Streaklight 360. Great job!
Hello Gavin. Without a doubt, another extraordinary video. Congratulations I see almost everyone who posts but I have a question to ask. When I shoot in my studio, I turn off all lights other than the flashes, to avoid light contamination. In your demonstrations, I notice that, in general, you use flashes but do not turn off the ambient lights. Do you do white balance beforehand?
was watching your videos all night long (tomorrow having first studio photoshoot). it helped me so much! i really thank you a lot for such and informative and fun videos, hope to see more!!! thank you
I love your energy. Thanks so much, I am learning so much from you. I however don't have a studio and live in the apartment. I did not buy any backdrops yet and am wondering if you have any suggestions for home-made backdrops, e.g. white sheet (but then how to position it etc.). Thanks in advance, it is greatly appreciated :)
Hi Gavin I loved this video, I think what you could have tried if you had one would be to add some smoke from a smoke machine. Other than that this is an awesome image, you have got me thinking now of what I can do. Thanks for the great videos please keep these videos coming.
Hi Gavin! I have really enjoyed your entire series of videos. Question about your camera body - I noticed you changed from the Canon D70 to the Olympus OM M5 Mark II. Does the environmental seal make a huge difference for you versus the weight and MPs?? Thank you!

Gavin Hoey needs to change his name to Gavin Hero.

You ask me, Gavin, and I'll say you're quite a magician yourself. Thanks. Always a pleasure, and always learning a lot.

I love these comprehensive videos. I've been learning a lot from them.
Of course Gavin knows a magician. Just when I thought he couldn't be any more endearing. ❤
I really liked the light on the pic without the small reflector on the ground, it had so much contrast. A very dramatic effect.
Excelente Gavin!!! Me encantó este video!!! Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos!!!

Do you do white balance beforehand?

Great shoot. Thanks for the lesson.
Love your work Gavin, in most of your videos you say about how small your home studio is, what is the actual size of it if you don't mind me asking...
Very roughly my studio is 4 meters wide and about 8 meters long

Are you using HSS? I see your shutter speed is at 1/350
Not HSS but well spotted. The maximum flash sync speed for this camera (Olympus, Micro Four Thirds) is 1/320th sec ;)
Yes, I noticed that too although think the shutter speed was 1/320. Would be interested to hear from Gavin.
Nevertheless great tutorial!
OMG you did that on an OLmpus great work just shows lightings everything when it comes to photography
Hi Gavin! I have really enjoyed your entire series of videos. Question about your camera body - I noticed you changed from the Canon D70 to the Olympus OM M5 Mark II. Does the environmental seal make a huge difference for you versus the weight and MPs?? Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words. Weather sealing was very VERY low on my list but has proved handy :)
Great video. Anybody know where I can get the protective cover for the flashmate?
