In case you missed it, here's the episode on my visit to a Bootleg McDonald's: ruclips.net/video/JVmSc790gnU/видео.html
Very interesting channel and review. I think you missed a chocolate bar product called "Winergy" which is kind of famous local brand i think. Regards.
if these products are really going to be of the same quality as the originals, how do you expect Algerian citizens to buy them? so we have to be strategic not just to launch products that will end up in inventory!!!! 😅
As an Algerian, the reason for the existence of so many bootlegs is that foreign companies cannot implement here without partnering with a local company in some type of 50/50 contract, to avoid foreign monopolies and "economic imperialism". I think it's a great thing to protect the local market from foreign companies that the local ones could never compete with.
I agree, that's a good thing.
I'm from Algeria and used to eat a lot of Mandolin when I was a kid but the quality of it change now .... back in the day when you bite it you will drag caramel like mozzarella and the chocolate taste better , about the nougat that's authentic Algeria nougat taste , keep it going I love your videos and thanks for visiting .
Same with candies in the states. Prices going up, quality going down
@@spirttomb yeah I have an American uncle told me something like that and he told me that the orange juice bottle be came smaller too in the States ( at least in NY because he lives there)
Egyptian product nothing algerian in it
@@benmeradiabderrahmane3963 did I say Mandolin is Algerian product 🙃 , it's sold in Algeria and I use to eat it a lot 20 years ago and the quality of it dropped , show me where I said it's Algerian 🤥
@@benmeradiabderrahmane3963 well thats nothing to be proud about it tastes horrible.
As an Algerian i genuinely believe that kool break is better then kitkat 😂
Yep... True
Despite the fact that i haven't even tried kit kat before 😅
@@MuscleMManhe is right Kool break is much better and even cheaper
Disagree
i agree with that lol
Kool supreme is better than both🗣
I am Algerian and I've been following you for a while now, and am happy that when you visited my country you didn't get swarmed by the Algerian online mob for visiting like what's happening with other content creators LOL (It's not omnious or anything, it's just that Algeria isn't used to getting tourists so when we do have one, it's exciting) and as for the knock-offs, Algeria started seeing an apparition of a variety of knock-offs due to incentives for local production (coupled with both its upsides and downsides), but there are still some hidden gems that's produced locally that I've yet to encounter the equivelant of anywhere else!
We are getting more and more tourist recently. Concerning the bootlegs I wonder of we will go the same path as China in some way. beginning by making bootlegs and then our won quality products.

different melting points for chocolate doesn't necessarily mean different ingredients.
interestingly, you could have the exact same ingredients, and yet have 2 chocolates that melt at entirely different temperatures.
the reason, is that chocolate molecules have more than one way to crystalize.
so depending on the treatment of the chocolate, and the curing process, even starting with the exact same substance, you can get various types of chocolate.
for instance, "Beta chocolate" has a high enough melting point that it will even stay solid while you handle it, or even in a fairly hot sunny day in algeria, provided it's stored in the shade.
while "Gamma chocolate", melts at temperatures that are well below room temperature, so it will only stay solid for a very short while after taking it out of the fridge.
and just like in any other crystal, if you have seeds of a type of chocolate, you can make liquid chocolate crystalize around those nucleation points, growing into the specific chocolate crystal you seeded it from.
For those who don't know, this is also called tempering- Bringing chocolate to certain temperatures and then cooling it down. it's done in factories to make chocolate stay set at room temperature, and H2CT has explained this extensively.
Interesting!
Man I truly love these review videos of local snacks and drinks! Don't stop making them please!
Glad you like them!
It's great to know that Algeria has good quality chocolate. A lot of countries in the developing world have very poor quality "chocolate" far worse than US chocolate, and US chocolate is already pretty bad compared to other Western countries due to its low cacao content and use of corn syrup instead of cane sugar. In Europe the cacao content is 30% and in the US its like 10% to be considered chocolate. In a lot of developing countries the cacao content is even less or sometimes none and is mostly just brown coloring and tastes awful.
the issue with the flavor of big name brand US milk chocolate is the higher butyric acid content due to how the milk solids are processed. Gives it a slight cheesy/vomit hint in the aftertaste. There are plenty of better options than Hershey's in the US though.
The Celebrity chocolate bar will probably always be softer because if it is melted once you can’t really cool it back to a less warm room temperature and have it return to a solid state. Basically, the chocolate must be re-tempered all over again if it melts because the crystal formation is lost.
Bla bla bla im guessing you already know this
Ironic how the quality of US chocolate always lags behind the rest of the world when we could make some of the best in the world. We all expect Belgium or Switzerland to do chocolate better than us but when Algeria is beating you at the chocolate game you've got a problem.
why do you think Algeria should be producing worse chocolate than the US or vice versa?
Believe it or not neither Belgium nor Sweden grow cocoa. 😂😂
I think it might have more to do with local tastes, at least that's how it was explained to me by American coworker. Apparently people prefer different kind of chocolate in US than in Europe and Africa.
Perhaps because Algerian producers base themselves on European standards and because they aim to export. .
For example, in Algeria there are several brands of dark chocolate or hazelnuts which are made of cocoa mass and cocoa butter, zero vegetable fat and which are as good as imported brands such as Ritter Sport (German chocolate) or Milka.
Relatives living in Canada brought us Canadian chocolates and cookies, they were of very poor taste, made with vegetable fat. We also produce chocolates made with vegetable fat but they are still delicious.
Than you have no idea about Algeria and their products its not new ! During the frensh occupation the frensh took several recipes from Algeria and between 17s 18s in the royal kitchen such as UK and France they use to cook algerian dishes and call it exp : gigot à l’Algérienne( algerian lamb) soupe à l’algérienne( algerian soupe ) viande cuite à l’algérienne ..etc
Beside , Algerian women are renowned for preparing the best cakes and pastries in the Eastern word and even European one do some research 🤌🏻
The Crazy bar seems like a good one to me. Wafer crunch, rice crunch, plenty choc, no caramel. Ideal!
"Crunchy" bar is what they're trying to copy I'm pretty sure
@@Shitballs69420 to me a crunchy bar is honeycomb coated in choc
love your channel and I'm so grateful you came to my country 🇩🇿 We also love the USA
Should have compared ingredients. The knockoffs might be superior if they don't contain corn syrup lol
That and in general the chocolate seems to be of better quality. I’ve tried US chocolate-based snacks like these and the chocolate has always been worse. Like a semi-solid sugary grease.
Corn syrup is a American thing, so I doubt it.
HF corn syrup is just cheap sugar same chemistry as cane or beet sugar.(sucrose=glucose + fructose)
You actually mean HFCS because unprocessed corn syrup is just glucose.
Academic for me as I haven't eaten this sort of thing for 40 years or so.
Corn syrup is almost unheard of in many other countries.
@@NZKiwi87 it's cheap in usa as it's an indigenous crop and heavily subsidised as is sugar beet in UK and. EU
love that the bootlegs aren't bad
Having a really rough day today. Your videos are always very relaxing for me. Thank you. 💜
love these types of videos!!!!! similar vibe to ashens comparing japanese kit kat flavors. came for in-depth fruit content, stayed for candy bar reviews
Great video as always!
As an Aussie there's a few treats from AU / NZ which I think you'd find quite interesting:
- Mint Slice (one of the most delicious biscuits ever made)
- Tim Tams (if you get your hands on these then you absolutely have to try a "tim tam slam")
- Chocolate fish (this is an interesting NZ-specific treat. There's an aspect of culture tied up with this treat too)
We also have our own localised version of a Snickers bar (called a "picnic", made by Cadbury), though these days Snickers has just as much product recognition.
Can't forget cherry ripe. Thats my favorite :)
We have Tim Tams in Canada too. They are easily my favourite cookie/candy bar
Tim Tams are ok. Not my favorite. But decent.
I'm from Egypt and Mandolin is my childhood favorite candy. The quality changed drastically due to shrink-flation, with the company replacing some of the cocoa butter in the chocolate with vegetable oil and reducing its size quite a bit. It's still a nostalgic thing for me, but Twix is currently miles better.
Algerian products are the best ❤😊🇩🇿

Hey, we do knock off products in the U.S. too. Many of our successful TV shows are based on sitcoms from other countries.
love t see more like this! thanks for always entertaining
i didnt even realize this was one of your videos when i clicked it, what a nice surprise!
Love these comparisons, if you find stuff like this on your travels don't hesitate to make content about it!
You should try maxon products N° 🥇☝️in algeria 🇩🇿 💯
I'm always a sucker when it comes to reviewing snacks from different countries.
Your dining room chairs are epic!
some dollar-stores in ontario (canada) have knockoff kit-kats and a few other bar styles, on the same shelves as the "originals" even
which isn't that odd, if i think about it: it's more odd that only dollar-stores carry generic-brand versions of most candy-bars, when stuff like generic-brand oreo cookies are ubiquitous
edit: there's also knockoff snickers with similarly few-if-any peanuts, and i'm pretty sure a lot of the more unusual candy and off-brands in these stores are also from turkey
Love the candy/snack/soft drink episodes :-)
Haha, not expecting this but it's a great idea for a video
Glad you think so!
I really love your channel and especially how well you describe sensations. If i were blind i would want you to follow me around and describe the world around me lolz.
This was a really fun video.
Michigander here, love lion bars most specialty candy stores carry these. Whenever I go to market I find myself scanning the international sections for them. If your in the us and haven’t had one I highly recommend trying one if you can find it.
The dollarama dollar stores here in Canada actually cary some Turkish made chocolate bars that are clearly inspired by some western brands.
I like the word "inspired" more than bootleg or copied, it's less controversial. Bootleg has this illegal connotation to it. Like the product is illegal and might have copied more than the packaging and mimic the original with lower quality ingredients and maybe unsafe ones too.
More often than not, these companies just ride on popular brand's success by trying to make their own version and sometimes even make a close copy of the original's packaging but I don't think their intention is to trick people to buy them thinking they are the original.
There's a cookie biscuit in the Philippines called cream o. A kind of classic here. Not knowing what oreo is, I never thought it was a "copy" of it until I was more aware of things like that. The packaging color scheme is similar too but the flavor is not the same. I cant remember exactly, cause it's been years since I have both.
It is interesting finding these copies though and the word bootleg is easier to say than saying this is inspired by x product. lol
I feel like it's already a rule of thumb, nuts and caramel - red on black, coconuts - white, waffles - white on red, any kind of light milk chocolate - purple
man now i'm mad we don't have lion bar cause that sounds cool. also, now i want chocolate 😮💨
I live in the UK,had one after many years recently, was very disappointed, you arnt missing much
Get a Krackle, or if you an find it, Ritter with cornflakes.
Very nice video , Thank you very much for this share
Whoo Hoo a junk food journey! My favorite ❤
great video, more randon snacks from other countries please!
I love your content. Keep it up brother.
Thanks, will do!
You can usually find Lion bars at Middle Eastern grocery stores in the US. They are delicious!
The crazy bar was a staple of my childhood lol. This brought back good memories
Wtf that Snickers bar has some girth. Never seen one like that.
must be all the peanuts that it is packed with
Sir am from algeria and see company's sheat so let's be real grateful for your chanell
Dollorama in Canada has 3 bars made in Turkey that are copies of Mars, Snickers and Bounty Bars..
Called Meteor, Island Bar and forget lastbine.
i don't live in Algeria no more, but back in the days these cost arround 20 dinars (equivalents of 10 cents) the fact that they where much cheaper than the international brands made them so popular, i think that why it's very hard to find brand like kitkat, lays .. etc they simply can't compete with the locals
“Break me off a piece of that Kool Break bar!”
Thank you
There's a bootleg Mars bar that you can get at Dollerama around here, from Turkey... I like that bar better than the original. It just tastes better to me. Some people say it's sweeter than Mars, but I haven't found that. I know one reason I like it better is that the bars are smaller. Less sweet to get through. lol
I've never heard of Lion bar, but here in Canada we have a wafer bar called Coffee Crisp.
Somehow, that snickers bootleg made its way into a store in the Philippines because i remember buying one a few years ago
The Crazy Bar reminds me of the Bar-None bar we used to have in the US, except those have chocolate wafers. Weirdly, they're being made again...in Turkey 😄 They taste pretty close to how I remember, but that's interesting to me, at least.
Kool break is a great quick lunch for uni students :'')
Lion bars are pgood. I can find it in the international aisle at my local grocer in US. Also you make great videos!
Lion bars are GOD tier. Very upset for anyone in the US unable to find them.
You are deluded, they have nothing to them when you bite into one, maybe they have changed but they definately arnt great anymore.the Picnic is what a lion bar wishes it was
Looks like a Mr Big tbh its basically the exact same thing.
I am bread 🍞
And pretty sure the "crazy" bar is copying a "crunchy" bar
Relax, we love our chocolate bars. Only the FOMO will go out of their way to taste chocolate shaped slightly different because someone in YT said it was GOD tier.
Used to get a Kit Kat like thing from aldis that was always my favorite
Lion is one of my favorites.
Actually in Algeria, we do have the other snacks that you were talking about that you do have in US like KitKat lion ..etc but there is type of people who copy those snacks and they are cheaper than the other ones, but you can buy the both
And I think this thing exists in all of the world. For example, you can find a lot of copies of Nutella, but of course they have not the same quality.
Would have loved to see the ingredients on the packaging
You can find mandolin in Egypt as well.
The Kool Break is probably more inspired by KitKats that are sold outside of the US. The US KitKat packaging is different from the rest of the world, which would explain the different red colouring. Kool Break looks more like the KitKat we get here in the UK.
In your opinion, is a candy bar like a Snickers or KitKat as good as an energy bar like Clif for hiking/outdoors purposes?
When I'm hiking I carry trail mix. But between the two, I would go with the Clif bar. I sometimes keep one as an emergency meal substitute when I'm doing a long haul gig. They are more filling in my experience and can be thrown into a bag without worrying that it will get melted or mangled as much as a candy bar.
@@WeirdExplorer I find the energy bars like Clif to be about as filling as a Snickers, perhaps somewhat healthier. But what I really like is the Gatorade ones, it's very filling.
Ahh... Mandolin, I remember eating it when I was a child but sadly I can't find it anywhere, and for anyone interested, back in the times it costed only 10 DZD, that's equivalent to ~$0.12 nowadays
Price comparison would be interesting though
I'm algerian and the Kool Break is actually cheaper then kit Kat by 40% at least
i think the difference between the lion bar and the crazy bar is because crazy is trying to replicate the crunch bar from nestle ? i don't know if crunch and lion are the same but when i first saw the crazy bar it reminded me more of a crunch bar
The Mandolin bar is so nostalgic, but it used to be much better tasting, i remember as kid you could drag the caramel like a mozzarella stick when you bite into it, the quality of it dropped over the years
i recommend you try tiger bar (inspired by lion bar)
We have a more similar candy bar to the crazy bar in the US but I cant recall what it is called.
Zagnut maybe?
fascinating
Looks like a Lion bar is a rebrand of a Mr Big bar here in Canada.
I've always called the "design" on a snickers the vain.
Lion bar reminds me of A 'Whatchamacallit"
That KitKat looks like its from the 70s
as an algerian I tried kitkat before and tried kool and I find it crazy that kool is better
I see you shop at Aldi
Doesn't Wal-Mart and Hannaford do something similar with store brands?
Lion bar looks like our picnic bar in NZ
The important thing is that Algerian products are much cheaper

Can't understand why you wouldn't at least put the melted one in the fridge for a second instead of just opening it melted like a MONSTER
Im from algeria and im watch on ThemTube
We have tiger bar which mimicks the lion bar
Crazy looks like Picnic

You've should try winergy its better then celebrity bar
Oh my gosh I want Lion bars in my life.
To the internet!
Candy, the new fruit!!!
Keep in mind that the American chocolate candy makers were and may still be buying their coco from African growers who kept children there against their will as slave labor. I don’t know where Algiers coco beans come from. Who knows, maybe the same place.
The crazy bar looks more like a Tim-Tam with rice on the outside tbh
The twix winning for american candy bars is an absolute deserve
Mandolin is Egyptian
I'm a Algerian and we have ripoff candy and real like my dad brings us candies like kitkat m&Ms and more and mondolin is not a ripoff it's just a Egyptian candy made by cadbery in Egypt 😊
Saying Nestlé tastes better than Hershey invalidates your chocolate opinions for me. That said, great video.
By teste itself we can say it was a pretty close competition, so by adding price to the equation... Well, you won't have to think twice. You will get a closer taste with an insanely lower price 😂
I think the crazy bar is mimicking a crunch bar instead of a lion bar
