Oh, Luffy has character development. It's just subtle as he starts off as a mostly formed character to begin with. But just compare his speech about why he isn't a hero to one of his first actions when he gets to Wano and you know we are dealing with a more mature Luffy at that point.
The bromance between Nami and Usopp is just special. Like the friendship between Luffy x Zoro, Zoro x Sanji, Zoro x Chopper (this one warms my heart so much i cannot), Sanji x Usopp....nothing less but with just enough different nuances. I wish Oda write more friendship scenes between each member🥲
I recently got my heart warmed by Zoro and Brook staying behind on the Sunny to protect it and peacefully drinking tea together. Idk I thought that was so wholesome
"Dr Jamie Leee Curtis", that one was genius lol That scene in the beginning of Drum Island where Vivi stopped him from fighting, highlighting his impulsivity and recklessness made a serious impact on Luffy and his leadership. As the scene swooshes by one does not think much of it afterward but in retrospect Vivi had a *MASSIVE* impact on Luffy as a captain. PS. Luffy actually doesn't have inner monologues, at all, whatsoever. The author has made a point in never giving Luffy any thought bubbles throughout the story, only speech bubbles. He is literally empty brained whenever he isn't speaking.
According to research onls 40 to 50% of population has an inner monologue. I mean wtf. How do ppl actually prepare things they wanna say or write before they actually do ist. What is inside of their brains? Its kind of fantastic that luffy actually represents that but I guess it also shows how truely from the bottom of his heart everything comes that he sais. One thing about the smaller villains like Wapol is that after their arc, some of them get cover stories to expand on the character like with Wapol who gets a cover story where he invents a new material and becomes rich.
Fun fact, in an SBS ODA said that if he were to draw all of one piece in his head, the manga will never finish. So ODA mitigates this by involving himself often times in fillers.
@@stupidmonkey1239 some of them. You can often tell. Some of them are obviously dumb shit, and then some of them are actual filler, as in filling in gaps (like the time gap “what were the rest of the straw hats doing?” stuff). But there’s online stuff that lists the ones Oda was said to actually chip in on. Basically I just assume Oda helped with the ones that are good.
I love your Pokemon "Gotta-catch-em-all" mentality when it comes to nakama. "Oh, you're interesting? JOIN THE CREW!" Honestly, the fanbase is like that from time to time, so it's pretty nice seeing it so early. I'm sure we all had those moments where we're like "You! You're perfect! You belong on the crew" and Oda's like "how about nahhh?"
I really love it when people mention small details in the story that builds up the characters. Also one thing interesting about Luffy is that he never have any monologue and in the manga there isn’t a single thinking bubble in any panels. Furthermore everything he thinks he either expresses it or say it out loud.
I know right, it's part of why i love him so much, he just says whatever he's thinking with absolutely no filter. There's even a point in Wano where he accidentally says something out loud even though he meant to think it in his head. Also, in situations where he's forced to lie, he's just awful at it, like, you can just immediately tell that he's lying. It's also a part of what makes him such a good leader, since it inspires trust within the crew.
For real, Nami and Usopp’s twin siblings energy makes my heart flutter I love it. And whoever you put together in tandems of duos or trios like Luffy-Sanji, Zoro-Chopper, Usopp-Vivi, etc., the chemistry is there. The dynamics amongst the Strawhats is my favorite trope in One Piece. I wish we have so much more of that.
I shouldn't have trusted RUclips with recommending me another one of your One piece videos. Good thing I remembered you and decided to check for new video.
I think you’ll find One Piece to be the most emotionally meaningful show you’ll ever watch, because it only gets better as time goes on. I don’t wanna say too much but you most likely have hooked onto some of the core themes of the world of One Piece without even noticing, and looking back you’ll find more and more significance in the things that seemed little beforehand.
Man, I love the way you pay actual attention to what's happening I hope you don't get pressured and just enjoy things at your own pace. Next arcs are great :))
Very cool you caught that we never see any kind of internal monolog for Luffy. Oda has said its because Luffy is a "man of action" so anything that's on his mind he'll just say it or is already in the process of doing it.
You went from chill to omg to going insane on your videos on One Piece. You doing alright bro? Don't let the fans that like your videos get the best of you. Plus Chopper Rules🦌

I would say Robin doesn’t officially join the crew until Enies Lobby. Before that, she was around for selfish reasons but grew to have genuine friendship with the Strawhats.
One of the best parts of my experience of the fandom was their eagerness to 'level down' so to speak to talk about the anime with me. With so much media I get into on recommendation, people always hit me with stuff like "Oh you aint seen nothing yet" or "Just wait until wano" or even "This part is kinda mid tbh" But with the friends I had with me on my watch, they always made sure where I was before talking, and kept me 100% in the dark on stuff later on. They always treat the current arc I'm on as "Oh I love that part! Especially [x character]." I never felt like I was "catching up," my friends made sure that I was immersed in the journey, not getting to the current arc. SPOILERS POST-ALABASTA BELOW . . . . . ESPECIALLY POST 3D2Y . . . . . That's how I came to fall in love with fishman island as one of my favorite arcs. It was a little long winded at times, but the reading I took from it is some of the most nuanced, interesting, and compelling narratives about racial tension and generational trauma that I have ever red. Hordy is such a real villain to me in so many ways. The way he's a product of Arlong continuing the cycle, the way he inherited this fight by being taught this hate without reason. Hordy is interesting to me because he is *ideologically empty.* Because he inherits a fight not his own, aging himself with those power drugs until his body is old and his hair is white. I felt it a perfect allegory for someone who's wasted their life on hate and pursuit of power without any real ambition or dream. He's a tragic villain because this *isn't his fight. it isn't his hate.* and he's too steeped in this way of thinking to ever be free of it. Not sympathetic. Tragic. He could have chosen another way at any time... but it needed to be *him* that stopped the cycle there. That also ties into the moral gray of the pirates, I think. They aren't the "you can change" type of hero, it's not Luffy's responsibility. That's only to his friends on the island below. Had my friends just bitched about how drawn out the arc is, how it's mid, or that I should just keep watching and get to a more recent arc, I probably would have glazed and skimmed this arc and missed probably my favorite villain so far.
I love that in this review of Alabasta you talked exactly what I coment in your Nami video. And you nailed it. The "Nakama Power" trope is done really right in One Piece.
Skypia is disliked by a large sub section of the community but i love it, great story telling and world building, a little disconnected from the rest of the world though, you'll see
Quick comment. Bro I’m so happy you liked that filler arc, when I was a kid I was such a big fan of it (I was dragon obsessed ) watched recently as an adult and it’s still really nice.
Honestly I thought the Millenium Dragon arc was the worst filler arc in One Piece. Most people say G-8 was the best filler arc but for me it's the Ice Hunters.
That's called Flat Characters yeah. Luffy is Flat because he doesn't develop much but helps everyone else develop, as a Flat Character does :D EDIT: Also to add Oda, the creator of One Piece, specifically said he wanted to write Luffy to be a "man of action", meaning he specifically avoids monologues so we see Luffy based on his action and not his thoughts. So good catch!

Usopp is honestly underrated; we all judge him for being a coward, but isn't that what we all are in the face of danger? And yet he always comes back, and fights with his crew from the distance, cause that's what snipers do. That's true bravery. He's not my favourite character, but he's definitely on the list. Guy needs more recognition. Luffy not thinking anything is pretty cool- he's the main character, and yet we hear the thoughts of other characters rather than himself. The more we know about him, the more we love our dumb rubber captain lol. I merely hope that I will live long enough to witness them find the One Piece. It's a long- and great- journey, and I definitely need to know more about the deeper lore of One Piece (the Void Century, etc, but I won't say anymore).
@@lysg5282 Trueeee.. Usopp is a perfect embodiment of bravery, cause as everyone been saying; bravery is not an absence of fear- it's being courageous despite its presence, and Usopp has a LOT of fear, yet still overcoming all of them, making him technically the bravest 💖 And yeah Luffy is like- a perfect prontag 🤣 you love deep personalized character, he is it. You love simple action pack character, he is it. You're in for a good time, he is it. You're in for angst, HE IS IT 😭😂😂
At the start of the video I was hoping you’d talk about Zoro’s ‘voice of all things’ moment! Would have been interesting to hear your thoughts about it!😄
Is that just fully accepted rn for Jaime Lee Curtis for Kureha? I remember her saying in an interview once Chopper is her favorite and realistically if she was cast as a character for one piece, it would be Kureha. If I were in her shoes, I would like to be Kureha too, because spending time with her favorite is the best.
They will first do the East Blue saga and see how it goes. As far as I know, they have not signed anything with anyone else for future sagas. Not yet, at least. Still, I doubt they will turn her down if the show is successful and they continue on with it.
Keep your expectations in check before stepping into Skypiea. It is one of my favourite arcs in the series but it is often ranked low due to terrible pacing and boring baddies. The world-building and flashbacks are fantastic.
The problem with Skypeia is that it's largely self-contained. Very little would have changed if the Straw Hats skipped the island entirely. At most Oda would have to come up with an explanation other than dial power for where Usopp gets the technology for the Perfect Clima-tact and Kabuto.
@@blackknightjack3850 yea but that due to skypiea being a much more important arc in terms of the overall themes of OP more than the current plot at that point.
@@fulsomeapollo95 Pretty minimal, but I understand what you mean since it would mean Oda would have to find another way to learn about Poseidon so she could ask Neptune about it.

that's one thing i really love about One Piece, especially as it evolves and goes on. Even though they might have a rivalry going on, or see the others as being immensely immature, they still deeply love one another. They have an unconditional love for each other, and they never, ever have to say it.

I've been watching OP basically since it started. 3 months ago, I convinced my bf to finally watch it with me. We're currently on Enies Lobby and I find it hilarious bc Toon's got the exact same comments that my bf's been making. Excited to see more!
Oh trust me, Robin's introduction is short on purpose. Just wait a few arcs and you'll be shedding tears. Water 7 and Enies Lobby is a _lot,_ believe me.
'Just wait until...' that's a big red flag for a spoilery comment. If you don't want to spoil, I think you should stop with the 'just wait until comments'
Oh it's so interesting to hear someone's thoughts of One Piece 20% through the whole deal. It's especially funny since literally everything you said has something more about it in the future, so keep watching!
Keep at it mate. Things will fall into place eventually and you’ll be thankful you got into OP. If I was you I would smash out episodes all the way to water 7 arc. You’ll understand when you do 😂
You do have a good point about Apis. It would have been really neat to have an actual child I the crew and see her grow with the crew, not counting Chopper who would later join not long after.
I was also sad when I found out Apis was from a filler arc and that meant she wasn't coming back in the series, luckily they make a reference to her at the end of the Enies Lobby arc. It lasts for a moment, but they do.

Right, it’s like nowadays they get so much more dialogues with antagonists than among themselves with how long the fights are getting.
@@eriana21 it always feels that way towards the end of a huge arc. We will be goofin soon
You will learn this more & more as the series continues. Luffy is the most emotionally intelligent person in this universe
"Dr Jamie Leee Curtis", that one was genius lol
That scene in the beginning of Drum Island where Vivi stopped him from fighting, highlighting his impulsivity and recklessness made a serious impact on Luffy and his leadership.
Wise or dumb alike.
He has thought bubbles in impel down.
@@ZigTheHunter You do know that Impel Down is an extremely unique case with focus on stealth? Of course he can't speak his thoughts there.

So fillers in one piece are technically canon
@@stupidmonkey1239 Weeeeeell, its really a gray area as we don't know what specific episodes/moments ODA was involved in.
@@universanity9295 the logue town fillers he was involved in!
Man I LOVE and I'm always looking forward to your One Piece videos. This just made my day! Keep up the great work 🧡
I shouldn't have trusted RUclips with recommending me another one of your One piece videos.
Good thing I remembered you and decided to check for new video.
I always love watching people watch one piece.
Robin joining the crew is a lot like when nami joined the crew they technically joined at an arc but like 2 or 3 arc's later is wen they REALLY join
Glad you enjoy One Piece! Kinda can't get over the fact that you talked about Alabaster without talking about the one and only: Karoo
You have no idea how excited I am!!! Love your content man :D
I think you’ll find One Piece to be the most emotionally meaningful show you’ll ever watch, because it only gets better as time goes on. I don’t wanna say too much but you most likely have hooked onto some of the core themes of the world of One Piece without even noticing, and looking back you’ll find more and more significance in the things that seemed little beforehand.
idk wano country kinda sucked in that regard
Man, I love the way you pay actual attention to what's happening
I hope you don't get pressured and just enjoy things at your own pace.

ToonStarterz: "One Piece almost made me cry."
One Piece: "Dawg, I haven't even started yet. Just you wait. You'll cry, they all cry."
He said the show almost got him to cry but I guarantee he will cry at some point. There are many scenes that might do it, it's just a matter of which hits him hard enough in the feels. Just place your bets on which one.
is there really a choice or ...
Robin will break him. Its just not possible to not feel the love of the nakama at that point.
@@JesseblueXai true but there is there I say someone what shall not be named wink wink

Robin "i want to live" for sure
I'm glad the algorithm brought me back to you. I watched your first One Piece video and thought you might've dropped the series already as it has been a long time since you made another one. Glad I was wrong and that you're still enjoying it. I hope you're ready for more world building goodness from here.
I miss her too she's so underrated
i find your Jamie Lee Curtis reference especially funny because she's gone out of her way to mention that she's a fan of one piece.
It's why I think he's reading cliff notes.
I would say Robin doesn’t officially join the crew until Enies Lobby. Before that, she was around for selfish reasons but grew to have genuine friendship with the Strawhats.
Wait till 'nothing happens'
One of the best parts of my experience of the fandom was their eagerness to 'level down' so to speak to talk about the anime with me.
With so much media I get into on recommendation, people always hit me with stuff like "Oh you aint seen nothing yet" or "Just wait until wano" or even "This part is kinda mid tbh"
But with the friends I had with me on my watch, they always made sure where I was before talking, and kept me 100% in the dark on stuff later on. They always treat the current arc I'm on as "Oh I love that part! Especially [x character]." I never felt like I was "catching up," my friends made sure that I was immersed in the journey, not getting to the current arc.

Ohh finally I was really waiting for this one this was really good

Skypia is disliked by a large sub section of the community but i love it, great story telling and world building, a little disconnected from the rest of the world though, you'll see
That's what journey is right?
Yeah I didn’t see an issue with Skypia. I did enjoy it and found it interesting
Quick comment. Bro I’m so happy you liked that filler arc, when I was a kid I was such a big fan of it (I was dragon obsessed ) watched recently as an adult and it’s still really nice.
Toon got scared thinking Toei would put unnecessary fight episodes is so mood 😭
Hey you inspired me to watch One piece I’m on episode 89, I would have not wanted to watch on one piece without you so thanks
Yeah the first filler arc is amazing. I wished it was canon, but it later can’t be for reason that will be obvious later.
Honestly I thought the Millenium Dragon arc was the worst filler arc in One Piece. Most people say G-8 was the best filler arc but for me it's the Ice Hunters.
I've been enjoying the way you narrate dude 😂 Keep it up.
Karoo for nakama! X

Me as usual: "You're assuming way, WAY too soon man. Patience"
That's called Flat Characters yeah. Luffy is Flat because he doesn't develop much but helps everyone else develop, as a Flat Character does :D
EDIT: Also to add
Oda, the creator of One Piece, specifically said he wanted to write Luffy to be a "man of action", meaning he specifically avoids monologues so we see Luffy based on his action and not his thoughts. So good catch!
Lol just wait for Enis Lobby, and also Water 7 so good, I’m a handful of ep into Whole Cake Island arc and damnnnn it’s crazy the journey that has happened. Excited for you!
Glad you're still going! I agree Vivi can be annoying at times, but the arc's beautiful conclusion made her character for me. :)

Your review for one piece is really compelling! And also refreshing to see someone who doesn't hate usopp right off the bat, the dude looks like a comic relief sure but he has an AMAZING character to back it up.

Enjoy the ride because when it's done everyone's crying for MORE. So yeah watch at your own pace ✨ but we are looking foward to hear about your journey!
Usopp is a perfect embodiment of bravery, cause as everyone been saying; bravery is not an absence of fear- it's being courageous despite its presence, and Usopp has a LOT of fear, yet still overcoming all of them, making him technically the bravest 💖
And yeah Luffy is like- a perfect prontag 🤣 you love deep personalized character, he is it. You love simple action pack character, he is it. You're in for a good time, he is it. You're in for angst, HE IS IT 😭😂😂

@@blackknightjack3850 SPOILERS: What about the introduction of Noland and the polneglyph?
@@blackknightjack3850 yea but that due to skypiea being a much more important arc in terms of the overall themes of OP more than the current plot at that point.
@@fulsomeapollo95 Pretty minimal, but I understand what you mean since it would mean Oda would have to find another way to learn about Poseidon so she could ask Neptune about it.
