You should call this homestead “There’s a way homestead” because Will is over there. And Where there’s a Will, there’s a way. I think it goes well with Narrow way too.
@@Narrowayhomestead Yeah it came to me several weeks ago. I commented a few times on a couple livestreams, but it got lost in the shuffle. Then Kitty, Kitty be praised, gifted me a membership. So now I was able to comment the idea on a video with less traffic. Anyway, I really LOVE your videos. If I was an envious person I would be jealous of your life and lifestyle. One of the plants growing across the roof was a Virginia Creeper. I had one across my previous house front and garage, but have since moved. It's a lovely plant. 😊
Its already looking better without the rotten entrance area knocked down. Definitely a good call, the rest of the building looks fairly sturdy, seems to have an alright foundation.
Does it? The corners are all rotted out and half the floor joists are not weight bearing. I've seen 30 year old tree houses build by kids that had better floor supports. The foundation can probably be saved bt I'd build from the ground up on this one. Can reuse some of the materials but a good majority of the key structural points need to be scrapped entirely.
I'm really happy that you know more than I do about rebuilding from scratch because I'm just smh! But since we all believe that 'WHERE THERE'S A WILL, THERE'S A WAY'! This gives me hope because you're not ready to run away from it & you sound HAPPY!🎉HERE'S TO: NARROW WAY & THERE'S A WAY HOMESTEADS
Nate, your giggles and smiles show how excited you are to get started planning and working on this project. I can see it coming together little at a time. Your excitement flows over to us too. Cannot wait for thd rebuild to begin but there is still a lot of demoing and clean up and Will Survives and yourself are on it! Thanks Jen for being the camera woman! Love you all so much. ❤🤗🙏🏼💖
Nate I am glad you are cognoscente of Will and Jesse's safety because if they are anything like me at that age, they weren't too worried about it themselves lol. Me at 21 would have definitely tried to walk on that roof lol.
My house was a one room school house. The original structure was built in 1903, and so far, we have found some wild stuff! I'm currently having a battle with bats getting in. 😅
If you do go with the addition on the side of the existing structure.. might bring some character back by taking out the second story and returning it back to a full open height for the living room, and kitchen/dinning room with full height windows again. Having the addition being the bedrooms and bath at a standard lower roof height.
Wow, Nate. Thanks for the footage of the roof top. Hope there wasn't any poison ivy hiding out up there. I think its awesome that we get to go on this journey with you! I can learn lots from this for sure!! ❤
I admire your vision and your patience! All I see is a lot of garbage, a lot of heavy work and a lot of heartbreak. I’m so glad there are people like you who can see the potential in a project like this. Looking forward to seeing the transformation!
Know this is completely irrelevant, but at the moment I'm playing Assassin's Creed valhalla and at 14:28 I whistled for my mount at the exact time as will whistled for the dogs. Was almost identical 😂
What impressrd me is how well Nate scaled that ladder and never flinched! Dude just keeps getting more interesting. WTG Nate. Also great job @wi⚒llsurvives and Jesse on this demo so far. ⛏⚒🔨
Spectacular renovation work from abandoned neglected condition to lively homestead. You are the best professional builder. God bless your hard work with good health and happiness in your lovely family.😃🙂🐩🐈🐕
The house is definitely a unique fixer upper. 😂 It looks like you and Will are going to have plenty of projects for the fall. I'm looking forward to seeing how the finished product looks.
The corner in the kitchen: I think Will's video showed that's where the sink was. I think the sink cabinet was open to the ground, ie., no floor boards under it.
I would put an addition on both sides. A mud room/seed starting areas in the front (lots of windows for sun and heat) and a nice addition in the back to expand living space. Like a master bedroom with a private bathroom.
Hey Nate, happy to find your channel I came over with Will survives . About a week before we got to your place. I was asking my uncle if he had ever heard of Will and I told him he was going to work for a guy name Nate he said he had never heard of Will but he knew who you were through TikTok and that’s how he found out who Will was, so I think it’s cool, how both your channels have grown from each each other. God bless and rock on!
Just wanted to point out that the vine growing under the eves and on the roof is Virginia Creeper. Very hardy and easy to propagate also a very beautiful red color in the fall. Just cut a section or 2 or 3 etc and bury in any location you want it grow. My mother in law gave me a couple "sprigs" years ago. I now have beautiful vines climbing all over my yard.
That side building likely needs to go. however, i could feasibly be turned into a root cellar. looks like the door goes underground. The actual building looks rough, but once its stripped it should have "good bones" considering its concrete. I expect the floor will have to be fully replaced, but to do that the supporting wall will have to be supported and possibly removed which means the roof would have to go. Its definitely a large project. I've been my family has been slowly working on the house i'm currently in. we gutted the kitchen, closet, and pantry. ripped out the floor in those areas and the hall area. Added insulation, covered up an old doorway, put in a new floor, and we have sheetrock up on most of it. next we'll be hitting the living room then its onto the two main rooms. The electrical has been almost completely redone just have to finish the living room, spare bedroom, and expand the circuit in the main bedroom. I'm hoping to have most of the demo done and sheetrock/electrical finished by the end of the year. if the snap in flooring could be put down that would be great and have the washer and dryer hook ups completely installed.
Hey Nate: I'm glad that you're getting everything done with this *Creekside Hoopstead* and it's good that you have some help to get things going!!! ~ JonseyG 👲💖
You should be finding square nails from this clean up. I owned a home for 18 years that was built in 1860, here. I thought it was so amazing finding a square nail in its doorway while installing new stripping. It will be easier to see when ALL of the materials are out of there. It will be a process...no doubt.
Blueberries need moist, acidic soil [use tea leaves or coffee grounds] and work well under pinestraw or chopped oak leaves. If the leaves turn yellow, use azalea/rhododendron fertilizer. Keep the berries mulched.
I hope ur not allergic to poison bc u had that ladder right in the middle of it I believe I can look at it and break out with that crap but I hope ur not allergic to it bc u was right in the middle of it and ur getting along with the new place its looking alot better with everything u guys have gotten done keep up the great work guys..
True. As a gardener, I would be taking some cuttings of the Virginia Creeper, though. It is so handy for covering unsightly areas and grows quickly (so it can become a thug), but the colour in autumn makes it so worthwhile. Parthenosisis quinquefolia, I think. Love your content, sense of humour, and skills, Nate. Sometimes, the algorithm knows what I need better than I do. Blessings from Down Under.
For the side building, why not demolish it and make it a bunker with an interruptible powerr supply or secondary food storage with a chest freezer? The building isnt needed but would make a nice backup in case anything goes wrong :)
You should in some contractors trash bags and bag as much as possible while doing the demo. Will save a lot of time when it comes to double handling material to throw it in the dumpster.
You should repair that to barn level acceptability or shed and keep animals and feed there or tools there and build a house next to it all new. Not close enough to worry about if the old one catches on fire.
You should call this homestead “There’s a way homestead” because Will is over there. And Where there’s a Will, there’s a way. I think it goes well with Narrow way too.

Get will to take all the vines and brush down that are touching the house. It should keep some water away
I'd thought that would have been 2st priority then the front. Although some of it may be helping some water drain off if its thick. Idk
