I've always been intrigued by Titanic and many years ago found a book about passengers in antique store "Bird in a Cage" in Alexandria Va - no longer there. I also went to 100th anniversary gathering at statue located at wharf off Maine Ave in DC RIP

Very touched and humbled by such incredible human beings who are a cut above and make one feel so inadequate by comparison. The only comfort that I can take is that he was a Celt like me and a hero who was deeply affected by the awful experience of that night to remember in 1912.

My Great Uncle, was a Captain for the White Star Steamship lines in the 1920s through the 1930s. His name was also Smith (David Smith) I did inherit several items, from him in 1970 when I was 12 years old. I come from a family that, both built and sailed large ships. My Grand Uncle was a Machinist Mate on the ship that captured the only U-Boat (U-505) during WWII. He made the medals that were given to the crew of the ship (from the pig iron ballast of the U - boat) I worked at the same shipyard as my Grandmother during WWII (in the 1980s) Todd Shipyards in San Pedro CA.

I have a smaller Poole Pottery plate of the Archibald Russell, a winner of the Grain Race from Australia to the UK. It was the 2nd ship my Grandfather sailed on in the early 1900's.
