A Rousseau with Provence direct from the painter with the same theme almost identical, but obviously better painted, was sold at Christie’s for 43.5 million dollars in 2023. So it would seem that this one was a fake! If you look at a genuine Rousseau you can see why he thought this was a fake. Very interesting tho!
Notice the lady with the rosewater bowl immediately pick up her glasses to write down the analysis. This is what everyone should do with their antiques/collectibles. I print my documentation out and if possible store it directly with the item. Your future self/relatives will thank you!!!
I swear the Dogs Playing Poker painting has made too many people think other cute dog paintings are nothing but jokes. Sure hope THIS dog painting was cleaned & tended to!
I hope the guy with the “Rousseau” didn’t take this evaluation as the deciding one. The ARS evaluator, whom I don’t remember seeing before, jumped to his conclusion at first sight. Why should his opinion be trusted over much more extensive tests? Would it be impoimpossible to find evidence from the 1932 auction, which might well be run down? I wish Fiona and her cohort could work on this now
No need to be so rude. What he said is quite right, listen again! If the man was so sure, why is he bringing it in?The experts won't say it definitely is, without provenence, especially if the artist has been faked a lot.
These are a joy to watch , thank you so much for posting such great content for us HUMANS to enjoy , Marvellous, mwah xxx
Wow! The 1740 desk is beautiful!
Those 2 young girls at the start if they weren't before they're hooked on antiquing now!😄 I know the feeling😊
These archived videos are, to me, just as treasured as the items it describes. The valuations are secondary.
I guess it's kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released series online?
@Thatcher Nelson I watch on FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
Guy with Rousseau painting should go on Fake or Fortune if he still has it!

I can't help admiring more the artists who do a lot with just a little than those who do little with a lot. I.E. Orson Welles never used CGI.
" I was on the point of throwing it out " - always have someone look at your stuff, very rarely do you know as much as you think!!
Thank you so much for uploading all of these, they are a joy to watch!

"Did you know that your Grandmother had an affair with Harry Gill ( sic)?". Absolutely priceless.
Thanks!

30:10 legends
Yep. Absolute legends. Love it! They jump right off the screen.
This chump appraiser is a chump on the painting. Won't admit he's not qualified to do the appraisal. It's authentication has already been done.

Very nice contours and shapes good views of bare skin

My. That wasn't nice. He told one child how much her ivory cost an just pushed the other child's ivory aside.
