I agree, it’s nice to see major changes like that occur. The only issue I have as far as that goes is that (to me anyways) when a city is destroyed in AoS it functionally is the same as a planet getting destroyed in 40K. The way I see it because the realms are essentially infinite narratively speaking destroying a major location only matters so much. Like when a planet gets destroyed it’s a big deal but it probably isn’t gonna skate the narrative up much because unless it’s a once in a blue moon event like Cadia it will never even enough to cause the setting to shift. Being across the galaxy or the same segmentum as Terra doesn’t really mean much beyond the writer TELLING us it means a lot. With AoS the issue is similar. “A city got destroyed at the edge of the realm” and “a city got destroyed in another realm” narratively speaking aren’t that different; a big disaster happened but not somewhere that will make Sigmar and his Sigmarines lose any major ground permanently because then the war game wouldn’t exist.” I fully admit I could just be biased but compare it to fantasy where every location is solid and set and stone as opposed to “another realm of infinite size” and it feels a lot less significant. That could just be me though again, and for character deaths and lore like with Morathi and Khaine AoS definitely doesn’t hold any punches in a great way.

me and my 12 year old daughter are playing Age of Sigmar. We're doing Stormcast and Nighthaunts. I LOVE it so far. The minis are so cool. It's a good bonding experience with my daughter.
When I got into the hobby I decided to go with Age of Sigmar because of the Aztec Dinosaurs (I mean come on). We were still in 1st edition growing pains but I wasn't aware of the vitriol that was happening online. Thankfully that hate has died down with 2nd edition and the game's community is much more healthy so if you hear about Age of Sigmar being bad on the internet odds are it goes back to 1st which did start on a bad foot. But the game has recovered greatly and I am having fun with it. I enjoy the more laid back nature of the game. And it looks like 3rd edition will be just around the corner. I had an 8th edition codex but the rules just seemed confusing to me but I haven't looked at 9th yet. I figure though once I get a few games in this won't be a problem.
I have a similar issue with the rules of 40k. The rules are extremely bloated, to the point that I dont think it is possible for them to expmain it simply. I decided for this reason to play my own, stupidly simplified version, and honestly, (mind you this is only MY opinion) I think that re-rolls are one of the biggest problems. Again I ain't slamming GW for their game system, but I feel like bolt-action's alternative activations and no re-rolls is a better system. (Then again, bolt-action IS still only in 2nd ed, so I can only HOPE they dont mess anything up in the future.)

@@theemperor1379 the best way to start would be to go to a games workshop store. @@pancreasnowork9939 lmao. That's a bit hard to do. I live in Sweden and the only games workshop store exist in the South one in Stockholm and one in Gothenburg iirc. That's like 5-6hr drive lol. 400-500 km. Not that possible.
I’ve been a fan of Warhammer for a long time and I’ve played a lot of Dawn of War and Total Warhammer, but only recently I’ve decided to get into the actual tabletop games. I’m more well versed in the lore and setting of 40k, but I understand AoS is better for someone who’s new to tabletop wargames. I have a general idea of what faction I’d start as in either setting, but I don’t really have the funds to expend on multiples armies at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Beyond “Fantasy vs Sci-Fi,” I think I might go with 40K if you want more people to play against. By that I mean in my experience there’s a few more people that play 40K than AoS. Check with your local game store first of course. As for rules I believe AoS is a bit simpler like you said, but given how complex both of them are I’d say the issue of which one is more complex isn’t one that’s worth affecting which game you go with.
like i jokingly told my warhammer store guy, any universe where dudes that can set you on fire with their mind and fly around on magic frisbees is not scifi
I highly recommend if you like daemons I would say get a start collecting box for them That way you can try both games out and see which you rather and if you ever want to try it out again you can still use your daemons
Choice has never been an option! 40k, Age of Sigmar, Blood Bowl. Necromunda. It's all Warhammer! Life is too short to waste on anything else. Oh, the Old World and the new Horus Heresy are still coming ...
This is absolutely awesome, if you take requests it would be funny to have you do any kind of Genestealer Cult video, since they have some common mechanics with Eldar
Appreciated! And I take them into consideration yes, the only thing is that I don’t want to make a video on an army I’m not too familiar with. Lore is no issue, but I’d like to play against them first as well. That being said if I can make a video for all factions like I did the Eldar than I will ASAP!
Vermintide 2 got me into Warhammer but not with Rogue Trader it’s starting to consume me. I’m dangerously close to shelving all my Pathfinder stuff and trading my kidney for some Warhammer figs
Total war got me into Warhammer. Then Vermintide 2 got me addicted to the fantasy universe and got me into the lore. Not that I like 40k less(it's cool), fantasy just feels right to me.
For now, it’s 40,000. I’ve started collecting Raven Guard (Codex compliant chapter) and managed to build a decently sized Incursion force so I’m moving onto Dark Angels (Non Codex compliant chapter) and Drukhari (Xenos). If and when I do get into Age of Sigmar, it’ll be for those Daughters of Khaine (Order), but even in Britain plastic crack is already expensive enough for one who is collecting 3 armies.
Your wallet must be like a revolving door; exactly as it should be, well done. The Vermintide and the space elves keep me perfectly bankrupt myself, and I'm sure the edgy eldar and the clown brigade aren't far behind.
For the game and ease of starting an army:40k For the superior model sculpts and imaginative concepts: Age of sigmar Though AOS demons toe the line as they can be used interchangeably
I'd, disagree. AOS is actually about as deep imo due to the importance of positioning and playing the field compared to 40k. I'd say the big difference is AOS is a melee wargame with shooting and a focus on positioning, while 40k is a shooting wargame with melee and a focus on army building and threat assessment.
My solution: Kit Bash & Homebrew Have the best of both worlds! But as much as I love the hi tech stuff in W40k; Orks, Tau, Space Marines, Astra Milatarum, Khorne, Tyranids, Necron, Mechanicus Custom made... stuff Warhammer Fantasy scratches my itch with the Race variety I like; Beast Men, Lizard Men, Skaven or Dwarven Engineers - because Engineers are something every Fantasy needs - blending Fantasy & Scifi with Engineering Although, that technically can also exist in W40k...
Got to honesly say that moth for models and lore AOS is just better. Main problem with 40k is how small it is. It's just imperium and a little but if chaos with almost everyone else forgotten. That's not the case with AOS.
Always love 40k and WHFB lore and setting but I never got into the tabletop games because I don’t see myself sitting down and painting the figures.... poorly too probably. Kinda wish they had an option to buy them prepainted so some can just hop in and play. Though I understand people love painting and customizing their figures.
You could buy second hand models already painted for relatively cheap on eBay if you’re interested enough. There’s also people that will paint them for you though that’ll cost you a bit if you want to go that route. Might even assemble for you as well.
AoS is awesome because of all the unique character designs and army variation. 40k has a heavy grim dark lore and offers a brutal setting to let your imagination run wild. AoS has the negative of still having lore in development while 40k is stuffed like a pig with it. I will say that AoS got a lot of shit because of the Fantasy Battles community throwing a tantrum about the end times. 40k in the meantime has a lot of cool factions... But it mostly focuses on human/humanoid peeps in power armor. Plus xenos usually get jack squat for new models or updates. Where as Imperium and Chaos humans get a metric fuck ton of shit. At the end of the day they're both fun to be apart of and have a lot to offer a new player. If you are struggling to pick your first army I say go with whatever looks cool or vibes with you lore wise. But remember... DA ORK'S IZ DA BES N TUFFEST GITZ EVA!!!! WAAAGH!!!!!!
Peraonaly ive been falling out of love with 40k since 8th started and then stopped after 9th and aos seemed to simple in its statblocks for what i was after to i went and started playing 8th edition fantasy with my uncles of vampire counts then started collecting ogres and then moved over to army project and im loving it
They’re good guys by the standards of Warhammer, which has such a fucked morality system that it doesn’t mean anything. Like imagine the T’au (mind controlling, caste system, expansionist and all that good stuff) in Star Wars or something and you’ve got the bad guys right there. Granted that’s more recent lore; old lore yeah they were just the good guys with vagina foreheads.
I collect both 40k and AoS, and I can safely say that at the moment AoS is a more enjoyable game. It also branches into Warcry, which is the best ruleset GW has made since Epic.
Very stupid question perhaps but new to Warhammer and want to get into the game. Can the 40k and AOS armies play against each other? Or are you limited to one or the other?
Not generally, though if you play Chaos Daemons you could use your collection/army in both games. They'll have different rules and the army will probably be structured differently, but Chaos Daemons exist across the two settings
I started getting into Warhammer about 8 years ago and back then, I just thought AoS was way cooler, because I liked the classic fantasy touch more than the future stuff. Because of that I bought and painted A LOT of AoS models. But well now I am thinking about buying some 40k too. I mean AoS doesn't have big ass tanks and cool robots and shit.
@@geezer5507 ah I gotcha, and I’d love to make videos like that. I want to play some more Warhammer games before I start doing them though, to make sure I know what I’m talking about.
I personally think that it’s good to begin with AoS and rather stay with it or move on to 40k when you have enough experience. AoS is also better if you are on a budget or aren’t willing to spend too much on warhammer yet.
for anyone wanting to use a GW army that can play any of their games and be used as good proxies, get a melee focused Ork amy. the fuckers are in the games from bloodbowl to deathwatch and depending on which games you want to get into, you might be able to get away with less then a dozen units. Fair warning though, they're a horde army and GW gives prices like they think they're selling liquid gold
You know, thinking on the ending descriptions, I realize something. 40K is best suited for if you prefer darkness and sheer possibility while AOS offers glimmers of light and more structure. In other words, 40K is more suited to those who favor the nihlistic doom of Chaos and AOS the relative nobility found in order factions.
I used to not like Stormcast Eternals because of what happened in End Times but as I've learned more about em, and that they kick ass with Lizardmen on the side, is pretty awesome. Also Hamilcar Bear-Eater exists, and he's a fucking chad in Sigmar's holy image.
I would probably like AOS more if the fantasy characters didn't return or were delt with differently and if the world building was better.. to me AOS just seems to be diet Warhammer.. Every time I think about getting into AOS I remember what they did to the old fantasy characters and it just pisses me off.
As someone who hasn't played but watched content (started watching AOS a month ago), I personally think 40k is not only cooler asthethic wise but more friendly. I find AOS to be really confusing, especially with the amount of armies. 40k is just grim dark uniqueness while AOS seems rather generic fantasy with cool armies like Skaven. 40k has Necrons and Tau which is masterful
Ah, yes. 40k. The world where my homebrew army of khorne blessed (not Khorne worshipping mind you) retail workers as strong as space marines just from how pissed they are. The only universe in which this makes sense.

This is an awesome video, was completely surprised at how few subs you have, I was expecting like a few thousand based on the quality. You earned a new sub, I'm thinking of getting into AoS and this was great to help
I appreciate that! That’s the dream to get that many, hope one day I can see it. Hope you can find the right faction; I’m partial to rats myself.
@@pancreasnowork9939 I still have no idea which army I'm gonna go for, I'm probably not actually play with them, just paint them up but I've narrowed it down to Sylvaneth, Fyreslayers, Idoneth Deepkin or the Lumineth Realm Lords
man this is a pretty good video; been collecting 'nids since 2011 and playing AoS since 2018 and it was still fun to watch
Glad to hear it! And damn, I should be taking advice from you. Can’t speak from experience but must be interesting to see the hobby change over time, huh?
@@pancreasnowork9939 honestly 40k has remained mainly the same, I'm really glad to see it get more and more popular though, fantasy to AoS was a weird change for me and took me a while to get on board, but now honestly I prefer it to 40k in lots of ways. Idoneth Deepkin is easily my top 3 warhammer factions ever
Love your take. I am a 40k Ork player looking for new ways to burn money so why not AoS orks too??? Haha fantastic video, great humor. Laughed out loud at some of your descriptions. Liked and subbed brother. WAAAAAAGH!!
Much appreciated, I hope da green gods give you a proper fight on the tabletop in both systems!
Excellent work, really well put together and engaging throughout. I'm thinking of getting back in to playing one of these, after not playing since my teens. Still not quite decided (I used to play fantasy) but, either way, spending some time painting models again seems a nice escape at the moment!
I got into it all through the Total War games, I really wish I was around for fantasy now that I’m into it all. And no kidding, painting models is a great way for some sanity nowadays!
How do u play them tho? Do u have friends or something? When and how do u play them? Do u invite some stranger off the internet into your home? Like...how?
@@theemperor1379 the best way to start would be to go to a games workshop store. Unfortunately they mostly only let you purchase the minis and paints currently, but when things start opening up again you should be able to play games of Warhammer against the people in the store and just hang out in general. And of course if you know a few friends who are/want to get into the hobby then you can always invite them over to play.
@@pancreasnowork9939 lmao. That's a bit hard to do. I live in Sweden and the only games workshop store exist in the South one in Stockholm and one in Gothenburg iirc. That's like 5-6hr drive lol. 400-500 km. Not that possible.
is this truly where the legend began?
I started with 40K, fell in love with chaos, really wanted to try AoS, now I’m buying the shit out of daemons and I play both and LOVE the army!
like i jokingly told my warhammer store guy, any universe where dudes that can set you on fire with their mind and fly around on magic frisbees is not scifi
I highly recommend if you like daemons I would say get a start collecting box for them
That way you can try both games out and see which you rather and if you ever want to try it out again you can still use your daemons
Choice has never been an option!
40k, Age of Sigmar, Blood Bowl. Necromunda.
It's all Warhammer! Life is too short to waste on anything else.
Oh, the Old World and the new Horus Heresy are still coming ...
Of course, how could I make such a mistake? Nothing but Warhammer!
Life is too short to waste on warhammer
This is both fun and informative. Good job
The Age of Empires music made me feel so happy
I can’t say anymore than what’s already been said. Brilliant video. Look forward to watching more.......
It’s appreciated either way man, thanks!
Your videos have convinced me to get a good bar brawl going along my like, subscribe, and bell notification buttons. "WAAAAAAAGH!!!"
Awesome video! Keep up the great work.
Of course! More to come hopefully soon.
Thank John Blanche for the artstyle of the Imperium. He is a legend
This was mildly helpful. Thank you.
One great point it aos lore is that is not focused on the poster boys, and most of the factions have their part in the lore
I prefer age of sigmar cause it's actually affordable and the miniatures in my opinion are better and the armies are diverse
Your content is incredible. I hope you keep up with the do or don't series.
For the game and ease of starting an army:40k
For the superior model sculpts and imaginative concepts: Age of sigmar
Though AOS demons toe the line as they can be used interchangeably
Always thought it’s gotta be nice for daemon players to more or less be able to switch between games at will. More power to em.
@@pancreasnowork9939 indeed, nearly lost my mind when I first learned that
I'd, disagree. AOS is actually about as deep imo due to the importance of positioning and playing the field compared to 40k. I'd say the big difference is AOS is a melee wargame with shooting and a focus on positioning, while 40k is a shooting wargame with melee and a focus on army building and threat assessment.
Age of sigmar is a lot easier to get into. From a starting a collection with the start collecting boxes, to the more streamlined rules
The AoE 2 background music.. nice touch 👌👍
My solution: Kit Bash & Homebrew
Have the best of both worlds!
But as much as I love the hi tech stuff in W40k; Orks, Tau, Space Marines, Astra Milatarum, Khorne, Tyranids, Necron,
Mechanicus
Custom made... stuff
Warhammer Fantasy scratches my itch with the Race variety I like; Beast Men, Lizard Men, Skaven or Dwarven Engineers - because Engineers are something every Fantasy needs - blending Fantasy & Scifi with Engineering
Although, that technically can also exist in W40k...
Got to honesly say that moth for models and lore AOS is just better. Main problem with 40k is how small it is. It's just imperium and a little but if chaos with almost everyone else forgotten. That's not the case with AOS.
I pick fantasy, the good fantasy, fantasy.
You mean pre- Archaon just happens to finds an ex-machina and blows up everything because reasons- fantasy?
Always love 40k and WHFB lore and setting but I never got into the tabletop games because I don’t see myself sitting down and painting the figures.... poorly too probably.
Kinda wish they had an option to buy them prepainted so some can just hop in and play. Though I understand people love painting and customizing their figures.
You could buy second hand models already painted for relatively cheap on eBay if you’re interested enough. There’s also people that will paint them for you though that’ll cost you a bit if you want to go that route. Might even assemble for you as well.
@@pancreasnowork9939 ill look into that
Two easy choices, second hand.
Or
you can go the commission painting route. (This will cost you, but you can get what you want)
I'm going with Age of Sigmar. The fantasy setting feels better
8:15 That's a real gun from the 1800s
You wanna go insane. Have multiple armies in both AOS and 40K
Peraonaly ive been falling out of love with 40k since 8th started and then stopped after 9th and aos seemed to simple in its statblocks for what i was after to i went and started playing 8th edition fantasy with my uncles of vampire counts then started collecting ogres and then moved over to army project and im loving it
I feel lime I'm focusing more on AoS than 40k.
“There are no good guys here”
*shows a picture of the T’au*
They’re good guys by the standards of Warhammer, which has such a fucked morality system that it doesn’t mean anything. Like imagine the T’au (mind controlling, caste system, expansionist and all that good stuff) in Star Wars or something and you’ve got the bad guys right there.
Granted that’s more recent lore; old lore yeah they were just the good guys with vagina foreheads.
I never get tired of the WAAAAGH!!s in warhammer vidoes
Wait. Age of Empires music? :D
what units are pictured in the bottom left picture at 6:08?
I believe that is a Kroot Carnivore Squad
The song at 1:10 is very nostalgic. It must be from some old strategy game.
AoS has some some sick minis, and elves models younger than me
This just makes me weep for Warhammer Fantasy and the wee halflings that perished.
I don't play Warhammer but I love the lore. Personally I think it absolutely kills any other sci-fi universe in my opinion.
I collect both 40k and AoS, and I can safely say that at the moment AoS is a more enjoyable game. It also branches into Warcry, which is the best ruleset GW has made since Epic.
Is it bad that I actually like the chaotic abomination at 6:17? Reminds me of a Talus in Gene Wolfe’s Book of the Long Sun
Yes, please see a doctor
The Age of Mythology background music was not lost on me 🤙
It’s a goddamn classic game with a classic soundtrack
*I chose both .*
*40k : Necrons .*
*AOS : Nighthaunt & sons of behemet .*
Ayyy AOE music! Nice also I like both though I like dragons and etc more
It's always funny when you hear him running out of breath and wondering if he can finish the sentence before he faints.
If you can't decide: pick daemons, you can use them in both settings
"There is only war." Me:"That's dope. " narrator: "that's so fu**in' cool. " me: "ya that is fu**in dope!!!." Why am I like this?
Eldars are way deeper than fantasy elves.
But nobody can be bothered into reading their lore so they are treated as poorly as fantasy elves.
WHY NOT BOTH?
Because I can't afford both lol
Fantasy, but if a gun was put to my head, I'd pick AoS just because I enjoy fantasy/fantasy-esque settings more.
they are beyond over priced and people who say they aren't are huffing unbelievable amounts of copeium.....
11:32 I couldn't agree with you more. The arch warlock looks cool but is complete bs to assemble.
Please GW update the skaven range
aos, I LOVE 40k lore, and I will follow it, but not interested in 40k game, aos is way way way way way way better.
I use space marine chaplain in terminator armor or dark angel knight as a cleric for DnD🤣🤣🤣
I dont know why but in my mind you continued the "Christmas time is coming fast and its time to slap some eldar ass."
Models definitely look better for AoS. 40k models just look like grey, blocky shapes with guns. Yes I’m using hyperbole but you get what I mean
I play both. And I can say that both are fun. BUT not mentioned in the video is that if you want to play both just play Daemons of chaos.
4:50 who are these guys? (sorry I'm new)
I am a T'au player because I love big gun and giant meck
Years pass, authors change, and settings are born and die, but one thing is consistent. And that is WAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can u do a vid about the army’s and for both warhammers
I’ve done one about the eldar, the 40k army I have. Do you mean another one like that?
@@pancreasnowork9939 like a guide to all the army’s
@@geezer5507 ah I gotcha, and I’d love to make videos like that. I want to play some more Warhammer games before I start doing them though, to make sure I know what I’m talking about.
I personally think that it’s good to begin with AoS and rather stay with it or move on to 40k when you have enough experience. AoS is also better if you are on a budget or aren’t willing to spend too much on warhammer yet.
So do the Total War games take place in “age of sigmar” then?
No, they're in the old Warhammer Fantasy setting
40k for sure.
The only question for me if I should get into the Old world or not
for anyone wanting to use a GW army that can play any of their games and be used as good proxies, get a melee focused Ork amy. the fuckers are in the games from bloodbowl to deathwatch and depending on which games you want to get into, you might be able to get away with less then a dozen units. Fair warning though, they're a horde army and GW gives prices like they think they're selling liquid gold
LOVE IT
You know, thinking on the ending descriptions, I realize something. 40K is best suited for if you prefer darkness and sheer possibility while AOS offers glimmers of light and more structure. In other words, 40K is more suited to those who favor the nihlistic doom of Chaos and AOS the relative nobility found in order factions.
BOTH!!!
I used to not like Stormcast Eternals because of what happened in End Times but as I've learned more about em, and that they kick ass with Lizardmen on the side, is pretty awesome. Also Hamilcar Bear-Eater exists, and he's a fucking chad in Sigmar's holy image.
And then your me, who has recently gotten into 40k through epic Armageddon and fantasy through warmaster, all powered by the almighty resin printer
I wish the Models would not be that expensive. The prices of the models is the thing that stops me from collecting the minis
One issue with 40k is the only times they do change the setting or change a faction it's usually in a way everyone hates.
Fantasy
Ah, yes. 40k. The world where my homebrew army of khorne blessed (not Khorne worshipping mind you) retail workers as strong as space marines just from how pissed they are. The only universe in which this makes sense.
I recognize the Simple song from Rise of Nations!!!
