    The Model and the Muse
The legendary Pat Cleveland in conversation with Grazia d'Annunzio (US Special Projects Editor, Vogue Italia)
Vogue’s André Leon Talley described her as “the first black supermodel, the Josephine Baker of the international runways”. Back in the 1970s, Pat’s unique and unconventional flair graced many Vogue covers and conquered designers such as Stephen Burrows, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld and, later, Moschino and Lanvin.
Today she’s “high on demand” (check Italian Vogue, June 2016!), and keeps a very special relationship with Italy, where she lived with her beloved family for many years.

The first time I've seen her was in a Thierry'Mugler's show picture where she was watching herself in a mirror applying ultra-red lipstick on her luscious lips. When they took that picture It was around 1982, and the Italian press considered her already a real living LEGEND! They were absolutely right. At that time I was an impressionable teen who believed in fashion fantasies, but now, after 40 years of my fandom to her, I can easily say that she wasn't a fashion fantasy, she was just the legend they wrote about her, and she maintains that role with the utmost grace to this day. Not many people could stand the tests of time as she did, so Kudo's to her. Love you, Pat!

Pat Cleveland is a very beautiful, intelligent, and classy lady. She's certainly a role model and very highly respected. Patricia Cleveland is an American fashion model who initially attained success in the 1960s and 1970s and was one of the first African-American models within the fashion industry to achieve prominence as a runway model and print model.

After Pat, and after the death of Franco Moschino, only one model impersonated Olive Oyl on the same catwalk: Mariacarla Boscono: the best of the best for such a goofy character! That's funny to me.

She's an interesting woman who, like anyone else, has flaws as well as flourishes. We are shaped by so many things, some healthy some not so healthy. How we cope with living or choose to thrive on earth will be a mixture of all those things. Some of them will be admired by others and some won't. Being who and what she was in her time and place in history and how she engaged it...this is who we are seeing. No judgement here.
