Just want to give you a big thank you. I’m a wood worker, not a mechanic by any means. I just dropped the beam in my 58 in 2.5hrs! I could not have done it with out your help.
Thank you very much, Mike! I truly appreciate the kind words. I am so glad the video was helpful. I hope you a great upcoming weekend.
Brake shoe assembly would be awesome. I'm back into VW's after 30 years. Restoring a 64 bug, and your videos are essential to each task I'm completing. True respect and thanks for all your hard work! Will be ordering some swag soon.
Thank you!!
Thank you very much, I am restoring 1970 Karmann Ghia, and you vídeo had help me a lot. I Appreciate you help.
That’s great news! Thank you for leaving a comment, David!
Outstanding!
Thank you very much!
You guys will get it to run!!!
Thanks for showing how a beam is put together! It dispelled my fears of doing it! Lol. I have rebuild a stock beam to replace the narrow lower beam that rides like crap. Previous owners cut shock towers off and it’s a gut buster ! Lol. Cheers
I really appreciate your effort in making these videos. I am VERY amateur when it comes to rebuilding my 59 Baja, and some of these projects seem really overwhelming at first. Your videos make it a lot more manageable and I appreciate that. Thanks!
Thank you for being here, and taking the time to leave a very nice comment. I truly appreciate it.
The best vid I've found. Thanks from France for sharing ; I have to do it now on my 68
I’m glad the video is useful, and thank you for being here. I truly appreciate it. I’ll be doing an updated version soon. I just got an adjustable beam, so I will be doing the tie rod ends, the steering damper, steering box, and putting everything together on it. Pretty soon.
Excellent video. I like how you showed everything from start to finish in real time. Perfect instructions !!!!
Thanks my friend!
thanks for the videos they help ALOT...im a Brit down in Peru and its impossible to get a good job done right so im doing it all mysef. Your videos are invaluble....thanks
Thank you very much for the kind comment, and I’m glad the videos are helpful. It makes it so worth doing them.
Man, that was a knuckle buster job. We love the great detail for the small stuff. I would like to see a video of tapping the grease fittings. And would absolutely love a video of the brake shoe assembly. Again, this was a fantastic video.
Sounds great my friend! I will be grabbing more grease fittings, and do a brake shoe assembly video. You got it!
Keep up the good work man. Thanks for all the advice and guidance on these not so simple machines!
Thank you my friend, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
As always, great video......I always learn so much watching these. Yes, please put a video on the Brake shoe assembly......
Thank you Patrick! That video will be up tomorrow around noon! Thank you so much for being part of this great community
wunderbar

Awesome!! I hope this video is helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Awesome video Slade thanks for time on this hot day.
Thank you my friend, and thanks for always watching
Thank you for this video. I love the education
Thank you my friend for being here.
Hi Slade, just stopped in to say hi and glad you are continuing helping folks with their VW projects. You are a very good teacher. I'm still doing my vintage outboard videos but other helpful videos as well. As you know as time goes on its amazing how far we have come on the production on these. It's a fun thing to do and want to encourage anyone to join in if they have the time to put into this adventure😅
Thanks my friend, time is short going quick that’s for sure. I’m just trying to do what I possibly can each week. Although now the weather is heating up.
Useful video
Would love to see the drop spindle install.
Will be doing this soon, thanks for this!!
Thanks for being here!!
I'll agree ----- 92 degrees is getting hot ------- BUT ------ just be Thank full we aren't down like in Palm Springs where they are hitting around 117 degrees or so for eleven days straight with night temps of 80 ------- Thanks for the video ---- I always like to put a drop or two of oil or even lightly coat with grease on the cleaned bolts before reassembly ------ felt it would help in disassembly ---- whenever that day would come ---- am fine without you doing a Brake Video ---- See Ya -- on your next one ----------- Rodney
Thanks my friend!! Grease is a great idea on the threads!! Thank you for adding that to the comments!! Hope you’re well brother!!
Excellent.
Thank you! I hope you have been doing well
Nice job.
Thank you my friend!! Hope you’ve been well!!
great video, I have problems with the whole are you are working here, it's my 71. I bought it years ago and drove it home, the front drivers side was rigged to get me away from the point of sale and when I turned into my neighborhood the whole car felt like i was driving on railroad tracks it it fell of track. LOL also, the brake line explode right at the peddles in the floorboard of the drivers seat. I don't know if it's best to try to rebuild the front end or what yet. I have other issues but those two are preventing actual driving. so what I was talking about is the wheel just flops out when turning. i ordered all my brake lines ( the kind I have to bend and fit myself. i have not done anything to it yet. Been sitting a long while, i just got new tires for it changed them all out so the HOA sob's will get off my back. i do also have some heater channel rot on the drivers side and the bottom of that door as it was setting where leaves got piled up and it stayed wet there for awhile. I wonder if there is a way to fix that without removing the whole body and replacing the floor and all that cool stuff.. pretty much why i have not started on it. Grr. I am debating on jumping right in or just selling everything. I have always had a Beetle ( non super ) since I was a kid but none ever really needed anything major like this one. what do you think?
This was an awesome video ! I'm getting ready to take this on myself as First-time bug owner. I went ahead and bought all new tie rods and ball joints. I know that the needle bearings need to be replaced too. This made me realize I need to get those done while it's apart. I'm scared that the trailing arms will have wear in them and don't have the money to replace them. Would replacing the bearings for bushings be an option? Any help would be appreciated thanks 👍🤟🤟
Would one of those free standing Harbor Freight Fans (the big one) help make your work area more comfortable when it is hot and humid? I use a cheap Box Fan where I live and it makes all the difference. I even use it when I am under a car and just have it blow on me while under there on a creeper or my back.
Where do I purchase quality brake shoes that stop well? My factory original brakes were great. I rebuilt everything and it all turned out perfect and all is bled like it should be. But, my pedal feels hard relative to my stopping. It is like the compound of the shoes was meant to last 100K. They stop and stop even, but the pedal pressure is too high. I have driven the Type I Standard for almost 125K so I know how the brakes are supposed to feel. Any suggestions?
Instead of making adjustable beams to raise or lower your car, why don’t they just make springs with different divot locations? That would be cheaper and easier to do.
I would have to agree with you. I’m sure there are much easier ways. The beam that I received was a sponsor, which was really nice. I seen people use all thread rods, not sure where they’re getting them from. Instead of the torsion leaves.
Is the beam at 90 degrees at the frame mount ? Very nice job thanks.
my observation too. Saw a pic, where the frame mount is bend. there they interchangeable .
Unless I’m misunderstanding, nothing is bent on my car?
I am changing my front beam, love u video. Your frame mount seems to be ninety degrees to the beam. Saw a picture on the net where it seems to be bent. @@SladesVWBeetle
left side --speed cable // tells how fast your driving this car ???
Yes exactly the speedometer cable will move the needle on the speedometer.
I’m trying to get the trailing arms and having trouble with the lower ones too. Can’t seem to get them though. Any tips?
When you buy the beam does all the parts come with it? All the rubber parts etc or are they kits?
No unfortunately they don’t. You just get a bare beam. At least in my case it was a bare beam.
You should be able to reuse your torsion bars, and spindles, and a few other things off of your current beam
Not to be nit-picky, but to clarify...they are Roller Bearings, not Needle Bearings.🙂
Yes! You’re not being picky you’re just making a statement.
Which video did you talk about caster shims.?
In this video Mike!

"oh caca!' sometimes these things just don't do what you want them to do and in combination with 92 degrees - totally understandable
Hey Scotty! It seems like these cars only fight with me when it’s really hot and humid out 😁
nice job. get out of the heat.
Absolutely sir! Thank you so much.
Doesn't the wheel brake cylinder go on the top?
That's how I have always done them.
No, they do not on this style of back plate.
The rear brakes, have a four bolt backing plate which sets the wheel cylinder at the 12 o’clock position. …
The front backing plates if you noticed in the video, there are only three holes in the backing plate, they only go on one way.
Which sets the wheel cylinder at the 3 o’clock position on the driver side, and the 9 o’clock position on the passenger side.
@@Slatersave How are you getting them to the top position? On this style?
wheel bearings snug -up--turn the wheel and back off 1/4 turn as you drive they get hotter and will run hot and fail
I feel your pain with the parts not fitting. Its really bad
Yes, times have short changed with the quality of our parts.
