It’s not a Black Friday if you get to spend it with Stu and Marina….
Going out to a Tiki Bar this evening on a chilly night in New Orleans.
I’ll lift a toast of some sort of grog to your almost finished sub floor on Seabird.
It’s looking great guys! Enjoy your weekend! 🧉🍹😁

Positive energy? Look at yourself Marina, you are DOING it! I mean, Stu is a natural, for him it's easy to just do it. I wish I was like him. But for you, I take my hat off, fighting the negative, finding the positive, and in a few months you'll be sailing. Respect!

I don't think you know how much inspiration and how much positivity you, Marina, and Stuart as well, give to other people.
Please know that you've made a real difference in the way we at least look at the next year and the things we will do for adventure.
Being a worrier myself, I know that the way people look at you and the actual feelings inside can be two completely opposite things. So I understand that you may feel things quite different.
But just having rewatched the older videos of the two of you on the Wayzgoose Warrior. it is amazing how many things you dared to do and actually did.
Like sailing backwards in that marina in England, the locks in the river Rhone, sailing through virtual forests of weed plants. in the canals above the Rhone.
Scary, but the two of you did it, and conquered them.
Or what I try to remember, when having doubts myself, are the words of Baz Luhrmann 'Do one thing every day, that scares you' (might not have been him for the original quote, but it is from his song that I know of it).

when you have a combination of fibre glass that is matt and woven be sure to apply the matt first. this is because roving only makes contact here and there but matt accomodates this by absorbing the rough weave of the woven roving on the hull and the new woven roving. don

Nice comment from Marina about negative thoughts. I no longer think in terms of 'positve' or 'negative' . Understanding first that all things are a struggle and accepting first that this is simply a fact of life you can then move on. Breaking down all those difficulties, both real and imagined you should concentrate on the single point of difficulty in front of you and work on resolving that one thing. This is of course is precisely what the pair of you have already achieved. The voyage forward is called living and only by confronting the difficult things can you get the best out of it.

I think what you're doing is incredible. I wish I had your skills so that I could rip out the horrible steep slopes floor of the toiket/shower on my boat and make jt less steep people could actually stand properly without crashing into the walls when the boot rocks 🙈😖 Also I really want to paint the interior as it's just way too much varnished marine ply for my eyes, but my husband says a firm "nope" on that. What paint would you recommend? I know you used eggshell and then varnished it, but would that stand up to winters in a UK coastal marina, where we only check on the boat once a month to see if we need to run the dehumidifier?

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  Месяц назад +1

The pealply is used so the surface doesn't need sanding and is ready for another layer of glass or paint, etc.
If you dont use it, you'll have to sand the shiny epoxy.
      I hope this helps.

Marina, Don't sell your positiveness short. You and Stu have your positiveness in different directions and the combined effort of two positive personalities that shore each other up is what is so interesting to watch and what makes you a good couple for your life. Stu has a positive energy to try hard things--really admirable. You have a positiveness day to day while you are communicating and cheering Stu up and doing incredibly hard work consistently. He wouldn't have any fun without you doing that. i am sure you look at yourself and think about all the times off camera that you don't demonstrate what i just described, but don't do that. We see enough where the camera doesn't lie to know just how much you are vital to your joint efforts. Don't look at weaknesses compared to your partner and declare you are not sufficient. Look at what you bring that he doesn't and realize you are blessed.

For the engine install. Get stacks of scrap wood, high enough to match the slope of the new engine bearers. Pile it under the hatch and have the pile lined up so that when you crane the engine in, you set it on the pile. Then slide the engine down on to the bearers. You might have to slats of wood on the engine (on the mounts) to act as skis to help it slide, and that could be removed when engine is where it need to be aligned.

Have a confession to make. When I first started to follow this project I thought, great here are two clowns having no idea what they’re doing takaing on a mission to restore a boat that should have been scrapped years ago. All using stuff found in trash containers. Let’s follow their road to disaster!
Now I see two persons that have grown to the task both as personalities and in craftsmanship. I actually think you’re going to pull this through and I was wrong. Keep on digging and I’m sure Seabird is going to sail the seas one day.
