Drill Press Table Build

  • I made this drill press table so I can use it for woodworking projects and take it off quickly and use the cast iron table for metal working parts. The T track on the drill press table and fence makes it easy to use a stop block for repeated holes and add hold down clamps to keep my work piece in place. This was a fun easy shop project and it should keep my woodworking parts from getting contaminated with cutting oil and metal pieces!
    At 6:52 I say that i am drilling 1/4 20 holes and meant to say I am drilling holes for 1/4 20 bolts! oops!
    Here is the T track I used (Affiliate)

    Your video came up in a search I did for a drill press table, And I am very glad it did. I am a novice and I felt your explanations were clear and easy to follow, So please accept my thanks for that. Your version of the table encompasses everything I believe I am going to need. It’s not over complicated and yet very functional. Looking forward to checking your library of videos real soon. Thanks again, All the best from North London. UK. ✊

    Love how you compensated for the height adjustment by notching and building it up 3/4". Everyone else's design that was an after thought. I will be utilizing your design for my table top. I am considering dovetailed my sacrificial board as a triangular piece that I can slide out. Yours is the best I've seen after watching several videos

    This is an excellent tutorial. It has just the right amount of detail - not too much and not too little.
    And your plan has a couple brilliant ideas I haven't seen before - offsetting the replaceable insert so you can get eight uses out of it, and adding a hole through the table to provide a way to push the insert out.
    Thanks for the helping this newbie get it right the first time. 👍😀

    I use a coupler nut with a bolt on other end to drive hanger bolts. It sort of acts like a nut driver. The head of the depth stop bolt is smaller than the coupler nut itself. Used a coupler with different threads on each half.

    This is the second time watching this video. The first time was when you posted it and then I saved it in my favorites. This is one of the nicest drill press tables I have seen. I am going to make it with one difference. The top layer of plywood and the second layer or middle piece will not be glued together. Instead, I will connect the two with a piano hinge installed along the front edge of them. Along the two side edges, I will take two 1/8" thick strips of 1" wide by 12" long pieces of steel or aluminum (whichever I have on hand) and make a 5/16" wide by11" oblong hole through the middle of the metal strip. This will be attached to the top layer of plywood at the rear side with a star knob and the other end will be attached to the front side of the second piece of plywood with a 1/4 20 screw and fender washer. The other strip of metal will be attached the same way to the other side of the table. By doing this I will be able the drill angled holes. I am hoping to attach a ruler to the strips of metal for accurate angles. Thanks for the awesome design!

    • @TwistedWorkshop77
      @TwistedWorkshop77  5 лет назад

      Thanks! I think I can picture what you are going to make. It would be nice to have an easy way to drill holes at an angle. I plan on making some Windsor inspired chairs and angled holes may be a little tricky. Good luck with the build!

    • @crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230
      @crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230 5 лет назад

      @@TwistedWorkshop77 Thank you! I hope you taper the chair making. Ive made more modern or contemporary chairs. A Windsor chair will be a big challenge but Ill support you making one,lol. I dont have a lathe yet so I've stayed away from chairs that have ''fancy'' turned legs,lol. I would love to try at some point in the near future. I watched your tour video and saw that you have the HF lathe. My biggest hold back on getting one is that I want one that has a head that will turn to 90°, plus a 2hp motor to turn large bowls and platters. Can you tell me what size motor yours is? And, have you tried to turning the head to 90°? Does the stand hold up to the weight in front of the lathe? Thank you for any information you can pass onto me. Thanks!!

    You sir did a fantastic job. I will be building this but on a smaller scale for my smaller drill press. What I really want to compliment you on is how much thought you put into this. Everything you said was completely clear and easily followed. The sacrificial insert is brilliant. More than anything I want to thank you for having the class and decency to make a video that didn’t need vulgar language or clowning around. Far too many people think that the are comedians but just make fools of themselves. I give you 10 out of 10 and look forward to seeing more of your excellent work. Great job my friend.
    PS. For convenient weights leave your machine where it was and get yourself a supply of weight training plates. They come in different weights and sizes and are not that expensive. Especially the ones you get for free from your friends who gave up trying to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. 😁
