Time does go backward in spec but not in price. Whether you believe me or not all laptops at this specific time should be standard 4K resolution. Especially at the starting point of $1K 😬
@@AwesomeBlackDude nah. The thing is in the past making those leaps and bounds in tech it didn't take that long for tech to catch up. These days we have plateaued with tech pretty hard. ESPECIALLY for gaming. A lot of people tout that these laptops are expensive, not worth it, should be priced cheaper etc but honestly this is pretty priced accordingly. As he said in the video 4k 120hz is pretty insane for a laptop. I swap my monitors on my desktop frequently and right now I'm typing this from a 280hz monitor and I've had a 4k monitor but I've never had one above 60hz even. For laptops this is pretty unheard of currently. There's really two reasons why laptops shouldn't have 4k screens as a standard right now. I've used both like I said on a laptop and PC and here's the thing.. unless you're getting a bigger display you're not going to see the difference. It's so marginal it's not even funny. Pushing that much data to your screens though is also a lot for your gpu. It leads into the second point of that it's just not practical. You may have an amazing GPU and be able to run your games on max settings but none of this really matters if you're handicapping yourself in game by getting shit FPS. Honestly with this laptop this is one of the reasons I would not get the 3080 version is there is just not a lot of titles that will run at 120+ fps consistently at 4k on a laptop like this. Hell my PC with an overclocked 3070 was sitting at about 120-140fps at 4k on medium settings or low (I honestly can't remember) and while it was playable I just think back to this laptop that if you're not getting 120fps you're not getting the full use out of the screen on here. I'm honestly surprised they even put out this version as personally I think they should have just stopped at the 3070 version which is the perfect balance, but that's getting off topic. Point being is that 4k just is such a marginal difference and it's horrible for gaming. I think we're a few generations off of 4k being the standard still for a while. The GPU's are getting there but everything else needs to catch up and even then majority of gamers are going to prefer higher refresh rates at this time vs more resolution. These are gaming oriented laptops. Asus knows well what they're doing making them 1080p screens and high refresh rates. They were aimed at gamers and the 3080 version is aimed at people who want to game but also do content creation of sort. Anybody who is valuing gaming more though is going for the 3070 version. Even at the time of typing this Amazon has the 3060 version up for retail but the 3070 one just instantly goes out of stock anytime it's up. I'd say more so that laptops should have 4k screens, but not gaming laptops specifically.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again: the switches between 30 fps (or 24 fps) clips and 60 fps is is so satisfying to experience! Great video as always, cheers
I got my 3070 version last month. I gotta say it’s absolutely worth it for me. When I first got it, I thought the second screen wouldn’t be too useful. Gotta say I’ve used it everyday all the time, so useful. I’ve used it for multitasking, digital art and very thing in between. It’s an absolute beast and I love every minute of it.

I made my own Ultimate Duo Screen laptop Setup. I have MSI GE 76 Raider with 4K 120HZ and 3080 with 150W TDP with better gaming performance than Duo 15 SE as main device and asus flow x13 as huge secondary touch screen to it with amd 5000 cpu for best cpu performance. Ultimate DUO Screen Laptop Combo!
I must ask why go through all that effort? Chasing the "fastest laptop ever" is a fruitless goal, and there will be an even more powerful laptop out soon and you'll want to switch to that (trust me, I've seen your other comments and I can pretty much guarantee you'll regret the GE76 once a more powerful laptop comes out) What you've gone and done is, instead of sticking with your 4k+ laptop, you've bought a 4k+ laptop AND a 2-3k+ laptop to EMULATE the experience you were having on the Duo SE, with the result being that you are left with a clunky system that (although more powerful) requires more storage space to transport, has more accessories to lug around, is hella heavy and has awful battery life (unless you're planning on using the low-powered Flow x13 for anything longer than 4 hours) All seems rather excessive once you consider your 3090 desktop PC
@@EwanJP2001 I am laptop enthusiast who love making and recording 4K gaming videos who also love versatility so when I saw msi ge76 raider with 4K 120hz and mux switch. it was no brainer since it is only laptop which supported them and was available It is not that heavy for me and having my mobile desktop workstation which I can bring wherever I go and recording 4k gameplay videos without problem was always my dream. Purpose of Asus flow x13 is mainly as tablet when I don`t plan gaming and want bring something lighter and relax and do some light video editing and render videos on go or use it for simple browsing and watching videos as bigger tablet on go. That is extreme versatility which I like. And maybe there will be some more powerful laptops once new nvidia 4000 series come out but cos of 3000 series shortage and covid chaos It could even take like 4 years or so. If they will be powerful about 30 or more fps in games with new cpus which will come out, then I have no problem to switch it for them without problem since I will have more than enough money saved till then
Imagine finally getting this out of all the out of stock stores and websites and finding out a couple months later that there is a newer version thats even better lmao...
I have the zenbook pro until, My primary use is for work. That being Architecture and engineering, AutoCad and Archicad are my go-to software. These have a lot of menu screens and palettes, which normally take up screen space - In a desktop environment I have two screens as standard, in order to to combat this. So, a laptop that offers two screens got my attention very quickly! With all the palettes on the second screen it's equivalent of having a 17 inch screen on a 15 inch laptop in terms of usable screen space. Excel is also a breeze, being able to spread a large spreadsheet across both screens. Even if it's just emails on the second screen, your still able to function like a mobile desktop setup, that looks professional. I am also getting into video editing, so source files are moved down to the second screen, leaving a bigger area for the timeline and viewing window. I don't see myself going back to a single screen laptop anytime soon that's for sure!
I do a lot of video and audio editing. I love the jog wheels and ability to scrub videos on the smaller screen before adding them to the top screen (timeline). I also can see opening the vsti on the lower screen while the upper screen has the audio timeline.
The idea of the second screen seems fantastic, but I honestly don't know what I'd personally use it for, if anything. It looks from the images to be separated from the main screen by a couple inches, so nobody would really extend content from the main screen to the bottom screen. So the solution to that would be to use the bottom screen for something else. But what exactly? It's too narrow to realistically use it to browse the web. It is also narrow to watch a video on it (I imagine the video would be really tiny with most of the real estate being taken up by black bars on either side. While the idea is cool, for me personally, it feels like a very glorified (emphasis on very lol) version of the touch bar on a macbook pro.
I tried the zenbook but that keyboard was too small. I didn't see the point of buying a keyboard for a laptop, so I returned it. This bigger one's keyboard actually looks usable. I like the concept of it.
I do fit into that category portable workstation with gaming on the side. I have one on pre order. It's out of stock everywhere tho, waiting game now 🙄
I settled for the 3070 variant once I realised it was cheaper than a 3080 g15 and I'm LOVING it! I didn't believe when people said it would make you more productive but man I've wanted to work more than game on this beauty
@@aly2889 the G15 has a nicer screen in terms of higher resolution, and I'd say the difference in brightness is indistinguishable, but I feel the Duo has a brighter screen. This could be due to the G15 having a white chassis which throws the colours off a bit. The Duo panel is also higher quality with no light bleed and there are performance benefits from being only 1080p. That being said, the G15 makes more a great laptop, especially a student one, as it has a very clean design, a higher resolution screen and better battery life (also its so much lighter than the Duo) Edit: I have written 3 text-based assignments with the Duo, and text is easily legible even when I have the screen split into 3. I'd put the screen quality on par if not slightly higher than my iPad mini screen
@@EwanJP2001 I ordered a duo but I am still having second thoughts because it's only 1080p and Ryzen 75800/RTX 3070. If you think the duo has a brighter screen, then it will help me a lot since I read a lot of texts for hours in dark and white mode. Is it really that much brighter than G15? They should have been the same brightness per specifications, but that would be great if it is. The G15 Ryzen 95900/3080 is the same price as the duo I ordered here. But, I am very concerned with it's thermals as I use my laptop the whole day. Although G15 has great specs, i doubt it will use the 3080 well because it is only 80watts gpu. You said that you chose the duo because of the price. After using duo and loving it, would you say you will still choose the duo over G15 if both are the same price? Had the scar 17 QHD or Legion 5 Pro been available, I would have bought either one of those instead of duo/G15.
@@aly2889 I'm sensing a lot of buyer's remorse here, which I totally get! It's a big purchase after all! Either way the screen should be plenty bright enough for text documents and web surfing, but struggles with video games/dark movies in light rooms. Another major factor for my switch was performance. The low TDP RTX 3080 in the G15 meant that the Duo performs the same, if not better due to it's more efficient cooling. However, my Duo has a Ryzen 9, whilst you stated yours has a Ryzen 7, and I don't know how that would affect performance I wouldn't consider 1080p a downside, especially on a 15" gaming laptop, as you're not going to notice it whilst in use (unless you are coming from a 15" 1440p-4k laptop). In fact, the screen being lower resolution can be considered a benefit in performance, as the graphics card doesn't need to puch as hard as it would need to on the G15. As for whether I'd still pick it... That's a tricky one. I originally wanted a G14 but I needed more power, ergo the G15 seemed to be the most obvious (and safe) choice for me, and I really did like the concept of it. However, since it has to accommodate various budgets, you can get a sense for where corners were cut or where QC wasn't up to scratch. My particular model had some severe backlight bleed on the screen, a creaking chassis and a faulty wifi card despite costing £2,600 The Duo, on the other hand, has a higher starting price and the build quality to back it up. The laptop looks and feels (and weighs) like a tank. It has superior cooling and makes sense for a more desk-bound environment, which is both a positive and a negative as it fits right at home on a desk but not out on the go. The Duo also has the unique feature of having two screens and a full size keyboard, which are both things the G15 cannot provide and both things I consider fairly useful as a uni student. Had I not had any issues with the G15, I would've definitely stuck with it as it was a great laptop. That being said, I'm not regretting my Duo SE and I feel I am getting far more for money. As for the other two laptops, I can't say I recommend the Scar 17 unless you need that size of a screen and like the gamer aesthetic. It will also be made of plastic instead of metal and I personally wouldn't feel comfortable spending that much on a plastic laptop. The Legion 5 Pro might be a shout, as it also has a 16:10 screen which is far more suited for non-gaming tasks such as reading and writing text Hopefully this covers everything you need! Feel free to ask more questions if you have any other queries I didn't cover :)
@@EwanJP2001 I am trying very hard not to cancel my order as I've already cancelled it once before. It should be arriving on Monday, if I have the strength not to cancel it. Lol I feel like I am compromising so much by buying the duo because of the Ryzen 7 5800 and 1080p. The Ryzen 9 5900 model is not available here in Canada, and I heard that it's been discontinued in USA. As for the pricing here, the model that I ordered has the same price as the G15 (Ryzen 9 5900+32gb+RTX 3080). Even the upcoming Zenbook duo (Ryzen 9 5900+32gb+RTX 3080) would have been only $200CAD more. I feel like I am not getting my money's worth for the duo because of the 7 5800 cpu and because I really, really want a QHD. I hope the 2 screens would make up for not having a QHD. The reason I wanted the Scar 17/legion 5 pro is because of the bigger screen real estate and QHD. I will be using the laptop for trading so the more screen I have, the better. But, I also would like to be able to play games on it when I feel like it. Thank you very much for your help! I will try not to think so much about this anymore. I would end up not buying a laptop at all if I overthink this too much. Lol.
Wish they would make a color accurate 17k 16:10 4k 120hz version with Ryzen 9 5000 and the RTX2070/80 Just add good 1080p web cam, better cooling, better speakers, better mics and I would buy it on the spot.
So far from all the laptop videos ive been seeing the G14 & G15 r king right now in gaming/editing.... So far i even think its better getting a new gaming laptop then it is to build a new gaming pc. Might even be cheaper/more bang for your buck.
In my country the only g15 variant available is the g15 with Ryzen 7 and 3080 graphics. I can’t find a single review on it on RUclips or anywhere else (I suppose bc we EU’s get the other variant) but man I would want to know the difference between that and the other g15’s (mainly the g15 with Ryzen 9 and 3070 graphics)
Nah , gaming pc will always be better than any powerful laptop reason being the graphics card are fully utilised only in a pc. For the same price as this rog zephyrus duo 16( around 5000 dollars) you can build a powerful gaming pc.

0:53 Is why I skipped on this laptop. The amount of headaches I'd have per hour switching from touching the screen that can be touched and the one that can't is not something I want to experience.
I sure wish this was available in the states... Preordered it in January, and the stock is so low that the ETA is now JULY (if it even gets here at all) a real shame, coz it looks damn cool.
I looked at if not all, all that I know of, stores or online stores and I didn't find one of these laptops that are available.....none!!! All sold out!!!!
can't find this thing anywhere in the US, the only places that have like 1 or 2 are pick up only in store and are on the other side of the country lol. I hope their next batch they see the demand and meet it somehow, even though TSMC is bottlenecking
You mentioned the zenbook duo but you didn't mention the zenbook duo pro which actually has rtx 3070 and probably compares to the lower end of this one
I’d drop my gaming resolution down to 1080p so as not to deal with any blurring due to scaling. Does this laptop have a MUX switch to enable NVIDIA Optimus for better battery life and does it support USB-C charging?
I'm personally considering this one vs the new 11th gen laptops because of all the 3d printing i do and the 3d software engineering I'm attempting. in need to see active models and real time pictures and that second screen would make things soo much easier and faster. Plus my buddies stream escape from tarkov and like you said, it can be another advantage
I game less than in the past but still want the capability. I would really use the duel screens as I am used to 17 inch screens and I watch movies and tv using it as an entertainment center. You didn't mention how well the speakers would work for movies and music.
I actually don’t need two screens but I would really like a laptop with keyboard buttons placed in the bottom like this. Does anyone know other laptops with this kind of keyboard?
I rarely comment but I just have to thank you for your reviews. Really helped me decide what laptop to get. You provide insane value, thanks! I'm looking at this laptop (and the G15) for a very specific use case: we ride motorcycles around the world and create video documentaries (as well as some photos). Having this dual screen setup is straight up insane for any sort of digital nomad. The only problem right now is the size of that thing (small compared to what you get) and the battery life. We would have to carry it on our back the whole day due to vibrations from riding off road etc. Anyway, thanks for the videos and thanks Asus for making such an awesome product. If only it was available to buy right now lol.
This is manufactured in Taiwan. I live in Taiwan. I ordered this specific model. Delivery, June. Maybe. Can't be guaranteed. So yeah, I would buy it, in fact I did buy it but delivery, that's a very different question.
I would like to know how this compares performance-wise with my few years old Dell XPS 9570 with i9. I'm programming professionally and use multiple screens but like to have machine on the go as well but so far Intel has a tendency to limit the performance a bit too much in favor of battery life. Using Visual Studio 2019 I would probably use the extra screen space for debugging screens and test data that I need for daily work.
An interesting idea, concerning debugging. It might also be very useful in game development, but I am quite interested in how can the keyboard automatically assign commands to whatever the lower screens are displaying. Is it only touch based automatic reference or something else? It's most likely doable, just interested in how much work that would take.
@@Roscapeaux I did buy the FHD model but the keyboard is awful if you write a lot and as the mousepad is wrong it's tedious to use as a daily driver. I mostly use it with external keyboard and mouse. Also, missing the camera is sad, although it has good mic and actually really good speakers (probably only second to Macbook speakers). Also, the lower screen is mostly not used as it's angled awkward. Not a bad purchase but I wouldn't use this on the road at all.
x17 arrivrd today, but it's a buggy mess, with a constantly drifting cursor and deep scratches on the bottom of the chassis. Totally gutted as I've been very excited. Is this Zephyrus a good gaming alternative? Thinking I should walk away from Alienware for good. 😞
In Romania I ve found two shops that had it but I didn t have enough money and they are out of stock now. But the version was with rtx 3080 and fhd screen. I wonder if that was a mistake. In your links, the ones with fhd screens have rtx3070.
Yes but what about the noise he produce when its at full specs? because my UX482 Asus Zenbook Dual, i cant have a quiet environment to work. its so so loud when is at maximum performance , the fans are awful.
Hey the zenbook duo has 2x4k touch screens, with rtx3070 and i9 not to mention the screen cam , looks better to me. Yeah I am buying it but will they deliver? They get sold out as soon as they are listed.
Be nice to see some gaming marathons and see how hot that thing can get before throttling. Just in my experience in gaming laptops, they get rediculously hot to the point my last one broke the keyboard by melting the wasd keys, that was right above the GPU. 😅
I would use it for medical purposes, for example taking a closer look at digital x-rays, computer tomography, etc. Anything that would need a 4K screen and powerful computer to run thins smoothly. But I see no HDMI 2.1 port, it would be nice if you four transfer the image to an 8K 65 inch TV. I am guessing, even better image quality.
This just released this year yet trying to buy one brand new in 2021 is currently harder than getting a 2020 1st Gen PS5 or 2020 2nd Gen Alienware Area 51m R2 with the i9 10900K + RTX 2080 Super combo (Dell now only manufactures it with weaker CPU and GPU variants and even those are currently out of stock). Source: Typing this on my 2020 A51m R2 while recalling just how much easier it was to get my PS5 back when it was harder to get a PS5.
I'm looking for a new machine. My RoG g75vw recently ceased updating Windows and a fan stopped. I play non competitive games, and usually play using wireless keyb & mouse using tv screen connected by HDMI. This looks sweet but more features than I'd need. Is there a similar model without the extra screen that I should be looking at?
Glad to found your dream system. I am only interested in running SPACE ENGINE which requires Windows 7. If this system could run SPACE ENGINE I would have astronomy search on the lower screen. Could you review SPACE ENGINE and similar softwares.? Is there any software that is remotely as good as SPACE ENGINE that runs on Windows 10 or Android? Thanks
Great video. I am new to your channel. I have a question...Why is it no one seems to connect nice laptops like this to their external screen/mouse/keyboard? These "stats" seem very close to desktop replacement I would think, shouldn't it be tested/shown as such? Or is this laptop more for the rich and famous who can blow 4k on a laptop while they game on their 8k PC? Just courious.

Any news on the Zenbook duo 15 OLED? Keen on it over this as I’d use it more for the photo editing and a bit of video (and light gaming) so don’t need the 3080 so hoping that comes in at nearer 2500-3000 rather than the 3500 of this one. Also, what’s the colour accuracy like on the 1080p version? At 2.5k that’s a little more palpable! The battery is great on the 14, I assume it’s not quite as good here?

I have MSI GE 76 Raider with 4K 120HZ and 3080 with 150W TDP with better gaming performance than Duo 15 SE as main device and asus flow x13 as huge secondary touch screen to it with amd 5000 cpu for best cpu performance. Ultimate DUO Screen Laptop Combo!
Nice! That's an awesome setup
Holy shit, you're a mad man!
It will be a dream for us at least for a while...
I must ask why go through all that effort? Chasing the "fastest laptop ever" is a fruitless goal, and there will be an even more powerful laptop out soon and you'll want to switch to that (trust me, I've seen your other comments and I can pretty much guarantee you'll regret the GE76 once a more powerful laptop comes out)
What you've gone and done is, instead of sticking with your 4k+ laptop, you've bought a 4k+ laptop AND a 2-3k+ laptop to EMULATE the experience you were having on the Duo SE, with the result being that you are left with a clunky system that (although more powerful) requires more storage space to transport, has more accessories to lug around, is hella heavy and has awful battery life (unless you're planning on using the low-powered Flow x13 for anything longer than 4 hours)
All seems rather excessive once you consider your 3090 desktop PC
If they will be powerful about 30 or more fps in games with new cpus which will come out, then I have no problem to switch it for them without problem since I will have more than enough money saved till then
Banger intro Ur underrated
Imagine finally getting this out of all the

The tachanka kill on 2:03 is sick.
Pulling up to the meeting with this is a flex.
8:17 whoever said "Good Job" must be a stud and a great teammate. haha great video, wish I could afford one of these!
That would be @king_krait - a RUclips buddy of mine.
It's out of stock everywhere tho, waiting game now 🙄
Love your laptop reviews, perfectly thought out. Thanks alot
I bought the 3070 version of this laptop and I love it. It does still come with the larger 380W power brick though.
I settled for the 3070 variant once I realised it was cheaper than a 3080 g15 and I'm LOVING it! I didn't believe when people said it would make you more productive but man I've wanted to work more than game on this beauty
For the 1080p version, is the display bright enough? Is it easy to read small texts even on secondary screen? Or is the G15 qhd version better?
@@aly2889 the G15 has a nicer screen in terms of higher resolution, and I'd say the difference in brightness is indistinguishable, but I feel the Duo has a brighter screen. This could be due to the G15 having a white chassis which throws the colours off a bit.
The Duo panel is also higher quality with no light bleed and there are performance benefits from being only 1080p.
That being said, the G15 makes more a great laptop, especially a student one, as it has a very clean design, a higher resolution screen and better battery life (also its so much lighter than the Duo)
Edit: I have written 3 text-based assignments with the Duo, and text is easily legible even when I have the screen split into 3.
@@aly2889
I'm sensing a lot of buyer's remorse here, which I totally get!
However, my Duo has a Ryzen 9, whilst you stated yours has a Ryzen 7, and I don't know how that would affect performance
I wouldn't consider 1080p a downside, especially on a 15" gaming laptop, as you're not going to notice it whilst in use (unless you are coming from a 15" 1440p-4k laptop).
My particular model had some severe backlight bleed on the screen, a creaking chassis and a faulty wifi card despite costing £2,600
The Duo, on the other hand, has a higher starting price and the build quality to back it up.
The Legion 5 Pro might be a shout, as it also has a 16:10 screen which is far more suited for non-gaming tasks such as reading and writing text
Hopefully this covers everything you need! Feel free to ask more questions if you have any other queries I didn't cover :)
@@EwanJP2001 I am trying very hard not to cancel my order as I've already cancelled it once before. It should be arriving on Monday, if I have the strength not to cancel it. Lol
I feel like I am compromising so much by buying the duo because of the Ryzen 7 5800 and 1080p.
Lol.
Wish they would make a color accurate 17k 16:10 4k 120hz version with Ryzen 9 5000 and the RTX2070/80
Just add good 1080p web cam, better cooling, better speakers, better mics and I would buy it on the spot.

I’d drop my gaming resolution down to 1080p so as not to deal with any blurring due to scaling. Does this laptop have a MUX switch to enable NVIDIA Optimus for better battery life and does it support USB-C charging?
Wow. I want that for studies. Nice review

Nice intro, Tom xD
Thank you for your opinion I think I will consider buying it
This is manufactured in Taiwan.
I wish this form factor gets into a macbook. So useful.
Just got one yesterday and wanted to ask - is 2nd screen a bit grainy?
Not for me. Make sure you have it set to the 4k resolution. Contrast is a little low though
This laptop Perfect for content creator & Gamer
