- If you’ve listened to KROQ-FM Los Angeles in the past 30 years, you’ll want to listen to this. Kevin says goodbye. The morning show I spent more than half my life building is no more. Kevin was the of the remaining Kevin & Bean Show team members. He was let go, unceremoniously, on March 18, 2020, 30 years and 3 months after his first day on air.

Terrible mistake my kroq. Kevin and bean are the only reason anybody even likes the current kroq. They are the last little bit of the old kroq that everyone grew up listening to. Thank you Kevin! I hope to hear you on my speakers again.
I was heartbroken when Ralph was released and Bean’s departure occurred. At one time KROQ was one time the best radio station in LA. With bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Morrissey this station was one that was in a league of its own. We would hunt KROQ merchandise all because of the Kevin and Bean Show and the music it played. As we got older and music transitioned from something we loved to something we just tolerated, the morning show was always something I looked forward to. Unfortunately, in this day and age, we are lucky to have a job we love. However, this station was lucky to have obtained such talent. You were part of why l loved KROQ since I was 20 years old. Thanks, for the laughs and now, are memories.

Kevin & Bean and the whole crew were the soundtrack to my teenage years when I started listening to the radio and caring about music. It's unconscionable that they are discarded like this; they are the only reason this station is valuable. Shame on Entercom.

What the owners are doing it seems is, getting a lot of the programming from New York City. Even the two minute promise originated at WNYOFM New York a year ago. And so one a lot of alternative stations, Owned By intercom, started to let go of their local talent about a week ago. All the stations with the alternative format adopted the two minute promise but with that, The same songs started going into rotation heavily. In other words, The company loves to market itself on having very few commercials but with a playlist that sucks ass.

I heard this live and I haven't listened to it again until now. It's still absolutely heartbreaking. Kevin and Bean was my favorite show and KROQ was one of my favorite channel. The BS way they executed the turn over pissed me off so badly I and many people i know refuse to listen to KROQ ever again.
Thank you for posting. 30yr listener here. This is life changing. This station got me through horrible losses in my life. The voices coming through the radio kept me going.

I remember wining a trip to ski at Lake Tahoe from KROQ back in 92-93. On the way home we got fogged in and they closed the airport, so we had to stay the night at a weird hotel in Reno, Kevin put all our rooms on his credit card.

This is sad to hear, I've been listening to these guys for a long time and is what wakes me up in the morning. They are the only reason I listen to this station and will miss them dearly. Thank you guys for all the years on air. KROQ is soul less and is now nothing but a suit.
This show was like my cup of coffee in the mornings. They were part of my mornings for a about 20 years.. im very sad to see it come to end....
From what he described, it sounds like a blessing in disguise that they were let go from that toxic environment. With 30 years of experience, he can do way better than having to deal with the new Kroq crew. I’m sure something better will come along!
I bet she what’s gonna happen is when the pandemic settles down, and when a company start looking to hire people, I bet you the owners will call Kevin back and will practically bag that he comes to the station again which by that point I know that he will most likely have found something so much better.

Wow!! Kevin, Allie, & Jensen were what made my morning commute tolerable. They made me laugh every day and I can't believe that KROQ was so cruel to fire them all during a time where the country is in crisis. Right now, we need the type of banter this show and this team provided. While I like Stryker & Klein, I got to listen to them on my commute home. I, like most of the people here think this is a terrible mistake and will likely alienate their fans, not help ratings. Money hungry, heartless corporate idiots.

THANK YOU for posting this. I moved to Thailand in 2019 and every time I'd come back, the FIRST thing I did in my rental car at LAX was tune that Mutha-F'er to *the* world-famous K R O Q... the radio station listened to by more poodles, than any other breed of dog!!!! ;-)

I listen to this station from Russia with VPN only to hear your Kevin and Bean show. It started long time ago when I first heard your interview with Blink 182, my favorite band. I love this guy! Kevin hold on.
I have been listening to K Rock since the 80's those were the good old days. I listened to Kevin and Bean morning show in my car, at work, on my cell & back in the 90's on my Walkman. I will miss listening to Kevin and the morning crew 💔 I had many laughs throughout the years.
I started listening back in 93 when I first moved to L.A. i might have drifted away over the years but I'd check in ever now and then and enjoyed hearing the morning show. Now, I don't see any reason to check in at all. With the catalog of music and musicians out there they should have been able to stay fresh. Instead most days, I can hear the same songs I''ve heard since 93. Very little new music compared to the old stuff. It's not the DJ's fault for that. It's the people behind the scenes and the record company people.
I remember thinking to myself who would be stupid enough to make these extreme decisions/changes? I grew up listening to Kevin and Bean and I LOVED every Friday's show!! Hilarious, current, full of empathy and just a great all around dynamics with all the fine people who were involved with this show!! And to those of you that had the assholish audacity to change everything I can only hope for the worst for them and yeah fu.. y..!!

Listened to KROQ during their best years from early 90's - mid 2000's. Ralph stepped up after Jimmy the sports guy and Mr. Bircham left. Even Big Tad had his moments. Didn't listen to the show much after mid 2000's but when I heard what they did to Lisa May and Doc On The Roq I was over them completely. Now Kevin got the same treatment and I have to say I can understand, the show was horrible, even before Bean left. Still kinda sad to see one of my once favorite things has come to an end. I still have my old Kevin And Bean Christmas cassettes and CD's that I fall back on once in a while. Good luck Kevin and crew, hope things work out for you.

I grew up with Kevin and Bean in my crucial years. I was in high school from 90-95, when they were setting the bar for radio comedy. I remember attending the pumpkin drop. I remember them tricking my sister and brother in law to get a sitter so they could go see a fake april fools show in Ontario. I remember their incredible interviews and comedy sketches. Its honestly heartbreaking that Kevin didn't get a chance to get the same send off as Bean, but I think most of us realized that moment was the end of the era anyways. And I'll quote Bean in one of my favorite lines of his when someone would call into KROQ and talk about not getting any dates.... "Lower your standards and you'll get way more dates". You guys are incredible! Love you all!
I honestly started listening back in 2018 when I started work as a delivery driver and I wish I found these guys earlier. I looked forward to listening to them every morning. These past few days I was wondering where they were while most other on air personalities were still going at it. I found out this afternoon by a google search. What a shame! Podcast guys! I will def tune in

I listened to Kevin & Bean since the day they started at KROQ..I dont listen much anymore because i live out of broadcast area and just life in general ..but it was nice to know they were there still ..Even when I am in an area to hear it if visiting or what have you..i barely ever turned on the station because it became like any other station i turn to ..there is nothing special unique about it any longer.

Sadly, I knew it was coming once big management changes at KROQ happened recently. Also, I knew from day one when Striker started hosting the afternoons with a co-host. They eventually would. Replace Kevin & Bean.

@@JayTilles I see that. Oddly though Woody and his crew aren't up-and-coming guys. They've been in the business for some time now. The kewl 'tude dude shtick is so out of date and embarrassing. Oh wow, he has an open against the norm and doesn't care. And his team. A bunch of yes people. They're of one mind. And when they bring things up they don't add much other than them laughing out taking a simple observation. They don't add fun. Anyway. What Kevin, Bean, and everyone else on that morning show had cultivated can never be replicated. Huge loss. It feels like radio died to me.

I could tell something had changed when when they let Lisa May go *ding*. She said she was told it was because she kept talking over Kevin & Bean. To which nobody agreed with that reason. Whoever is behind this is a heartless SOB. It's more than likely not because they wanted to handle things the way they just did then with Lisa and Ralph as well, it's because they don't know of any other way. They could still have made this change and gone about it in a much better way to leave listeners, and hopefully potential sponsors, glad they were a part of a good run. My only hope is that sponsors are vocal about how the station treats people and that it will not be worth their investment.
Lisa May was annoying. I'm glad she "left" the Frosty Heidi & Frank Show and radio altogether.
She got let go cause she wasn’t an employee of KROQ. Also that was the previous owners. The owners now are entercom.
My family and I are done with kroq, hope the find a home and we will fallow.
Kevin you are a good person that has affected the the lives of many people in a grand good way and made us feel as if we knew you personally.

Total punch to the gut as I've been listening to Kevin & Bean since about 1992 when all my friends were listening to Mark & Brian.
One thing that aggravated me about the Kevin & Bean show in the later years is they would replay bits in the 9:00 hour they just played live in the 6:00-7:00. hour. With the huge loss of Bean and change to the show's name after 30 years, it was an opportunity to create new bits/contests or at the very least stay live all the way through in order to retain listeners and gain new ones. Instead it was a hour and a half of original content in a five hour time slot. Lazy.
Other than that, solid morning entertainment for 3 decades. End of an era.

Wow. I interned with the show and then with jay as well. There was a cold blooded nature to the industry while I was there around 2009 but there was a lot of great people. Kevin bought his staff breakfast every morning. Omar, Mike and Lisa were always very kind. Too bad those people couldn’t be the decision makers. They would have served KROQ well long term.
Moved on the the Woody Show Full time after this. Mike the Show killer really lived up to his name. KROQ is dead to me, i avoid that station whenever i am in the car.
Ally and Jenson are terrible. The show started hurting when they fired Ralph and then it was over when Bean Left. Sucks because I grew up listening the show but it's just terrible now.
Rene Rojo I disagree. It was fine. Jensen was cool and I liked Allie a lot. But the show was never the same without Ralph and felt weird without bean.

Thank you Lightning for posting this. Thank you to K&B and all the K&B Family, past and present. I grew up listening to them and will miss the show. The suits at kroq will soon realize they made a mistake when the listeners show where their loyalty really stands. With that being said, when's the new podcast begin, and how can I get a job with you? Lol
I left LA in 2005 and I spent every weekday morning listening to K&B when I lived there. I had no idea that all this went down, and I’m sitting here getting choked up listening to this.
The KROQ personalities are the only thing keeping that station relevant. The diversity of music and bands they play is so god awful. Most days I'm like "No KROQ, I don't wont to hear another Sublime song for the tenth time today." Their radio personalities were the only thing keeping me coming back to that station everyday, but then they up and fired a good chunk of them. This will go down as one of the worst business decisions ever.

When I heard this I immediately stopped listening to KROQ. Worst move they made. No respect for this station. Then they had the audacity to have security escort him from the station after this broadcast.
During these times of uncertainty and fear. You the KROQ management took what I listen too to find comfort and humor so cold hearted and I will never tune into your station ever again. Such a shame.

This was a gut punch. And it came if I remember correctly right as the covid lock down started.
Show was falling off to be fair. But was still the only reason to listen to kroq before switching back to 98.7.

Kroq lost my respect after this. Kevin and bean was the only radio I would listen to. When ralph and lisa left i was sad, and even sadder when bean left. But welcomed jensen and allie to the show and fell in love with them too. To blind side them like this wow. Love beer mug and omar so much. I hope to hear you guys again in radio space again.
End of an era. We moved out of LA in 2001 and we still managed to catch the show on the regular via a friend's bootleg stream and then the official podcast. Loved the show. K&B and the whole crew deserved so much better than the way a corporate shit show seems to run things. Glad Ralph landed on his feet and Bean working with Alie on his podcast. Kevin is at another station in LA last I heard. FUCK KROQ. Will never listen to them again even over the internet.
Honestly, hearing this is making me sad, because I did grow up on KROQ & the Kevin & Bean was my favorite listening to when I had the opportunity to as a kid all the way to adulthood. It’s sad knowing they weren’t given the respect they deserved. People who grew up within my generation who found their way into the Industry don’t deserve to be there. If you’re not about the music or building a community/continuing a legacy you really shouldn’t be in this business. It’s about the love of music & our city.

We moved to Oregon in 2016 and did not realize KROQ had gone down the toilet. I suppose it was inevitable with the decline of mainstream rock. KROQ provided music as the backdrop to my family's lives from 1998 to 2016. Kevin and Bean made us fall in love with RATM, Tool, and so many more. We attended numerous Weenie Roasts. SoCal is a poorer place now.
I grew up with Kevin and Bean. Better things are ahead for them. Everything ends, the KROQ of the past is in the past. The only thing they can do now is rebuild their own gig where they call the shots. We will follow.

Saw this coming when they fired Lisa May. I thought bringing in Jensen was the final nail in the coffin but I did think that Kevin was going to “retire” and let them take over. If they fired the whole team though, you do have the means to do a kick ass podcast.
Get the band together again. Podcast it. But I honestly want to thank you. The whole show. From the mid 90’s till today. Y’all have been there to cheer me up, from being fired before 9am, to being dumped the night before, to being nervous and jittery going to a new job! Sucks that I no longer have that option and escape. But if I’ve learned anything, it’s that y’all never stop. Chin up, and thank you. #courage
I listened to Kroq from the beginning, around 1982. And i stopped when they escorted Kevin from the building.
And I haven't listen to KROQ since, and I've been a listener since 1978. I remember most of the people who started here (Kimmel/Corolla)and few others, but this one really flattened my tires. At least they should have gotten a farewell week, and then blame it on the virus.

It is apparent that the people who are in charge of kroq (no longer in capital letters, because they don't deserve to be capitalized) do not know how Kevin and Bean were the only reason that station lasted as long as it did, although Bean left just prior Kevin was still a breath of fresh air in the morning. I've also listened to Howard Stern and he said for years that working in radio was a thankless cruel business and this proves he's absolutely correct. I was involved in a motorcycle accident in 1988 and have been in a wheelchair ever since. I refused to even go outside, then shortly after Kevin and Bean began and absolutely changed my way of thinking and now retired and married and for sure got me thru really hard times and was probably my best therapy, being I was only 23 when it happened. I also wonder how many other people that they helped get thru though times in their life. Biggest mistake kroq ever made! Will absolutely for sure NO longer listen.
The day they were fired was the last day i ever listened to Kroq. I had listened to kevin and bean on the way to school/work from when i was in elementary school through my 30’s. I was already pissed when they fired lisa and then ralph. That whole station and its management can go piss off.

This is sad... I’m just figuring out the shows demise now... I thought Stryker & Klein in the am was just temporary d/t Covid.
Most of the station is just simulcast content from other stations that intercom owns, I think what we’ll see in the coming year it is that all the stations which are direct duplicating each other will suffer pretty bad ratings wise and I think the station will be forced to change formats. Either that or get Kevin back on air.

Started listening to KROQ in the mid 80's and remember when the Kevin and Bean show started. They were the remaining link to those days. So to be let go this cruelly and unceremoniously is shitty but not surprising. Kevin and Bean always made fun of how awfully management treated the talent that was the heart of KROQ. The toxicity Kevin mentioned has completely taken over I guess. Best of luck to all of the people involved in the show. RIP KROQ.
