My grandpa passed away two years ago and this was the last place I remember him taking me.
Since 15 years ago, he took me to Lemon-ya where I first tasted okonomiyaki and every time I visit Japan (I live in Canada) we made it a tradition to go there.
I recommend to my friends and everyone watching to try out this place, it is delicious food made by the most chill chefs.
Located in Takadanobaba, Tokyo
That’s a really heartwarming story Toshi S-R. Thank you for sharing that with us. May your grandpa rest in peace.
It’s been at least one year since you wrote your comment, so I’m sure that my reply will trigger some nice memories of him. All the best.
Hope to go there later this month
Wholesome post of the year! Another year later. @@banjemine4150
I just love how japanese people are always so passionate and proud about their craft, even simple jobs most of us wouldn't give much thought about they often give everything and put all their passion into it.
same thought here man!
same thought either!
This job simple though?
@@moonblaze4725 compared to the one who engineered Large Hadron Collider,yes...
@@moonblaze4725 The cooking is indeed simple compare to other jobs. The shop managing tho. It can be quite stressful at times. No job can be taken out lightly, unless you're a freeloader.
Refreshing to see a restaurant that's been passed down to someone who isn't family! Although being a fan of the same sports team is quite close to being family I guess 🤣
That glaze is seriously making me emotional

This guy has a nice, quiet voice, like a radio personality even if I'm not hearing english. Nice to hear.
Japanese, hindi, and Gaelic are my favorite languages to just listen to. They sound so good spoken
I speak Japanese, English, Korean, Spanish. My dialect probably sounds weird
ngl... a lot of japanese people sound like this- they tend to be quite calm so when they talk about something they’re familiar with it’ll sound very soothing, on the other hand if they’re uncertain, the intonation in their phrases is all over the place.. or at least that was my experience
surprisingly media/tv personalities or people on the radio have quite high pitched voices and use a lot of intonation, are generally just VERY expressive with their voice, it’s for comedic and entertainment purposes but just sounds annoying imo

Yall please support your local small businesses and restaurants.
Coming from a food industry worker, it hurts to hear him say that.
I dont think he specifically is hurting too much. He said he still has 100 people dine in on average, then also the delivery service on top of that. But coronavirus is wiping out small restaurants you are absolutely correct.
I think he is surprised in a positive way, because afterwards he says he wants to continue doing delivery services. I think more people wanted their food delivered than he first expected
@Harry Beaver Y'all.
@Harry Beaver Tard...? Very classy. Out of curiosity, are you one of those oh so loveable MAGA people? EDIT: Assuming Trim Mai IS the OP's actual name, how do you know he/she isn't simply a person of Asian ethnicity who was born/raised in the South? Lots of black southerners say y'all too... why is this suddenly something owned strictly by white folks from the south?
@@K1ddkanuck They've taken their flags and their statues. Y'all is all they have left.
I always loved the enthusiasm from Japanese people and how they put their love in their work. It's so inspiring

They somehow see art in mundane seemingly unimportant things in life too.
One big difference is they haven’t developed a Pavlovian response to getting tipped. Ive also found the service to be better than countries that rely on tipping. But of course, you can’t teach someone to be proud of their work. It must be learned.
This is my favorite meal that I've never seen, tasted or even heard about. Idk how it tastes but I need it.
my fav food out of everything even doe I'm not from japan
It is fantastic when done well and made fresh. Crispy and saucy exterior, savoury and sweet sauce, refreshing green onion and often topped with bonito flakes dancing away. Also packed with whatever seafood, meat or veggies you want. 😛
Also the average price is like under $10 USD. 😃
It’s the best fast food I’ve ever eaten.
Its amazing had hiroshima okonomiyaki and Osaka both are great
Its pretty much cabbage pancake. Had a spot in Manhattan NYC but covid so I don't go there anymore
When I had the chance to visit Japan, Okonomiyaki was recommended to us. So we went for Hiroshima and got it there - and indeed it is one of the tastiest snacks, if not THE tastiest, I ever had. This is just pure passion and perfection!
Japan, one of the few places where you dont need to be embarrassed about using a pre-made sauce in a restaurant. They really do take quality seriously.
I met a kind older gentlemen at a cafe in the Nihombashi area 2 years ago. We hit it off and he took me to a local Okonomiyaki place that made various types of Okonomiyaki-to my recollection, it was both the Osaka and Hiroshima style. I’ve had Hiroshima style before, but not Osaka style. Honestly, I don’t think you could go wrong with either. It’s a great dish to eat with family or friends. I started learning to make it 2 years ago after returning from overseas. It’s important to have the correct utensils & skills to flip Okonomiyaki if you’re going to make bigger ones. My first attempts were pretty bad. But over time, I’ve gotten better at it. And while mine will never measure up to these shops, it’s a delicacy that’s rather hard to find, but not too difficult to make once you’ve figured out how you like to make yours.
first time i've even heard of it-not very common dish
Make me one chief
He explained okonomiyaki like a philosopher :") very detail and deep
Bruh when he put those green onions on I felt like I ascended into a higher state of being.
Pretty awesome they can mass produce a high quality sauce like that and still cater to both chain markets and top quality food. The glaze is beautiful!
This guy is honestly so adorable. The passion for his craft really shows and that is so dope.
Beautiful that the grandson now makes it.. can tell went to culinary school… id like to make the original for the son.. i figured it out hehe and everytime i watch I can see how others went around the orginal style
Can certainly feel the owner's love for okonomiyaki!
Thank you @Eater - loved the video and seeing the details and learning about the owner. Japan’s cuisine is so extraordinary. Please, please consider additional videos.Thank you !
One of these days I’ll visit Japan and I’ll be extremely happy. I love their culture so much!
Do it, it's amazing
I'm suddenly craving okonomiyaki, and takoyaki!
Takoyaki!
Taiyaki and dorayaki?
I visited Japan 2016 and Hiroshima Okonomiyaki is my personal favorite, because to the separated veggies the way it’s put together! I like the Osaka type if I’m in a rush and just want to mix everything together quickly. Otherwise the Hiroshima style is to me OKONOMIYAKI!!!!😊
Culinary insights, local culture---a perfect video. Wishing you many new customers!
Have watched so many videos on Eater about Japanese chefs skills and most are very formal, but this in particular it’s cool with the chef wearing that 🧢 back. 😎
Been here and it’s amazing!
It's amazing how every one of these guys has their own specific passion and goals and are so dedicated to them. I envy their focus and motivation and rue my own lack of these things.
Watching from Michigan, and I love this video!!! It looks fantastic ~ !!! Thank you for this interesting video; I really enjoyed hearing about your story, and this recipe ~ !!!
It makes me happy to see spring onion sliced so finely on top the okonomiyaki. おいしいです!!
I've had Hiroshima-style in Japan and the US but have never seen that press. Very cool. Love how this gent compared Osaka-style and Hiroshima-style as different sports and that both have their pride. 👍
I'd love to visit Japan and of course visit this shop and enjoy their wonderful dish!
Okonamiyakiskiiiiii....OMGaaaawd, I love me some okonamiyaki!! Looking forward to try theirs someday
🙏🏼
This looks amazing and I will love to try some day....
Always reminded me of Ranma 1/2 Ukyo. 💕
His cabbage cutting skills are masterful
I have had this meal outside of Japan & really enjoyed it. I want to visit Momijiya to taste Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. It looks very tasty.
Mouth watering to look at. Thanks!
That looks good ! I’d try it in a heartbeat !
食べたくなった!
I will visit when I come to japan. Unfortunately the covid has changed a lot of things. Much respect to your trade.
Looks delicious and amazing! Maybe that and a Wagyu Steak would be Heaven!
Such a cool guy. The food looks amazing
I'll have to check this place out. My favorite okonomiyaki spot in Tokyo was Hiroki, in Shimo Kitazawa.
i love this dish, ate it all the time when i lived in Japan

Hey friend, thanks for the video. Its really educational and makes me want to try making Hiroshima style. We are going through the same COVID issues here in the States. I'm really sympathetic. I don't know how to help small businesses like your's other than through patronage. Maybe you could try selling a recipe book or tools? I know for a fact that finding a traditional okonomiyaki spatula here is hard....
One of my favorites. It's fairly easy to do at home with an electric griddle, if you'd like to get an idea of how they taste. Plenty of recipes online.
This looks great .. Im amazed these aren't popular in other countries
The camera work made me so dizzy on this one. Regardless, I do want to try this.
For those who haven't tried this, please do. It's REEEALLY good. 👌🏻
😙😙😙
@@thisiszw it tastes totally different
I had this fish in Japan after walking into a restaurant and asked to sit right at the bar/grill. Then without kmowing what I ordered I got to experience the skill of creating this dish right infront of me then of course get to taste it. It’s a must have for anybody visiting Japan or a Japanese restaurant that creates this dish
Looks delicious
wow, this makes me want to eat it so much 🤤🤤
Oh boy, I love hiroshima style okonomiyaki, it is the best type, they taste so much more fresh than other types. Plus it's perfect with beer. Ate it in Hiroshima and was sad when I went back to Tokyo and had to go back to regular okonomiyaki.
that looks an amazing place to eat at, great guy
Why did I watch this ? Now I have a huge Okonomiyaki craving !
Inspirational
And that is how you sell. I will get back to Tokyo and you are going to introduce me to your craft, sir. (Did I just become a Carp’s fan...?)
what is carp?
I love okonomiyaki. Easily in my top 3 favorite Japanese dishes.
Beautiful!
First night in Hiroshima during the rugby world cup we chose a random okonomiyaki place, as soon as we walked in we saw loads of rugby memorabilia, the owners didn't speak english and we didn't speak japanese but it was awesome. Ended the night by having a group photo behind the hot plate holding a rugby ball. Great memories of a great city.
I love it!
It would be pretty cool if you could do one of these on Lopez Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima, his story and food is awesome.
you make me want okonomiyaki so bad. ok i'm starving rn
he is proud of his stove!
beautiful

Oooo I love Hiroshima style okonomiyaki!
THIS LOOKS SO FREAKIN TASTY IN ANIME AAAAAA ITS #1 IN MY LIST AND I WANT TO TRY IT IN "THAT THING WHILE COOKING IT"
Can’t wait to travel again!
This guy is awesome. Wish I could go!
I remember when an anime introduced me to okonomiyaki years ago...ah memories.
Like this dude. Real no pretension or bulshit. Bet the food is good too.
I tried this in Dotonbori. it was absolutely delicious and unlike anything else. after paying and leaving, the waiter caught up to us at the next junction waving a 1000 yen bill that he accidentally overcharged. only in japan.
I went to Hiroshima 23 years ago and my fondest memory is Okonomiyaki
Although this restaurant doesn't seem to use it, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki often has noodles as one of the ingredients.
Also, since Hiroshima is famous for its oysters, they are often topped with oysters.
You can add seafood or meat to it as well. That's the kind of food I'm talking about.
When the coronavirus is gone someday, please come to Hiroshima again.
(I lived in Hiroshima for three years)
Hiroshima style for life 🤤
Hiroshima style is a game changer. I could live at Okonomimura
Well I'd love come try your food if I ever were to visit Hiroshima
Suuuuper!
wish i would'a had this advice earlier.
만화책에서 먹는거 봤는데 언젠가 꼭 먹으러 가고싶다
Literally just eating Okonomiyaki and craving for more
I wish him all the best and hope he meets his favorite ball players. P.S. love okonomiaki.
I’m learning Japanese atm and realising I can understand what he’s saying without subtitles feels so good
Now im craving some Japanese foods!
お好み焼き食べたくなった!
日本女おいしいですねー
そうそう、お好み焼きと同じくらい美味しい
Oh YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Oishii 😋👌
okonomiyaki is my favourite Japanese dish :) It's so good, but not many places serve it outside Japan. But it's so tasty. More love for okonomiyaki!
I believe that the word "okonomiyaki" means "as you like".
@@NIKOLAP7 that's true
I love Osaka style okonomiyaki, but I've never had Hiroshima style before. Next time I'm in Tokyo, I'll visit here 😊
I love cabbage pancakes.
I really love Hiroshima and it’s Okonomiyaki. I ate at least once a week when I was living in Hiroshima. The owner’s quote is right, Hiroshima and Carp are inseparable. My fav one is okonomiyaki restaurant called “Q” near Hiroshima University.
I want either or style for breakfast every day.
Seems like Ultimate Japanese breakfast for a westerner.
200 cst and serve with that small kitchen!! woah..that is super fast cooking skill needed !!! and obviously.. MONEYYY o yeahhh
I missed Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It taste really good with the Otafuku sauce. I wish the pandemic will be over very soon
God I crave this so much
I have no idea why people dislike this video
i only try the kansai style Okonomiyaki ,if i ever visit japan again i will be sure to try the Hiroshima-style one
