(adjusts spectacles) Point of order: it looks like you're using gari, the sweet, soft pickled ginger that accompanies sushi. It's my understanding that okonomiyaki calls for beni shōga, the crisper, tarter, brighter red strips pickled in umeboshi solution.
Sanji from One Piece once made rows, upon rows of dinners from scraps that weren't used by the Marine Chefs in the G 8 arc. Maybe you could recreate his dishes.
I know there isn’t a show for this but Babish you should genuinely try making Hiroshima style okonomiyaki it is the same concept, built in layers which creates more variety in texture and flavor

Oh my god, I love Sweetness and Lightning and also Binging with Babish. Wholesome show + delicious food. Priceless. Also if anyone wants to know the recommendation on the anime, 9/10. It's a show about a daughter and her father bond after the mother's passing through food.

This looks super tasty. I make mine a bit different though. I use sausage-or sometimes even canned tuna-instead of pork belly, and I use broccoli slaw instead of cabbage (it’s firmer and crunchier).

I remember the taco rice out of king taco outside of Foster. That stuff would cause the apocalypse in your room XD
Y'all had fart wars? 😂
Yeah, cabbage does that...
Now I finally know how these are made. The "Japanese Pancake" explanation really just makes more questions then answers.
(adjusts spectacles) Point of order: it looks like you're using gari, the sweet, soft pickled ginger that accompanies sushi. It's my understanding that okonomiyaki calls for beni shōga, the crisper, tarter, brighter red strips pickled in umeboshi solution.
N-Nani!?!
Sanji from One Piece once made rows, upon rows of dinners from scraps that weren't used by the Marine Chefs in the G 8 arc. Maybe you could recreate his dishes.
AGREE! and maybe the curry he taught a marine kid to make
Sanji is more like a warlock than a cook though
I know there isn’t a show for this but Babish you should genuinely try making Hiroshima style okonomiyaki it is the same concept, built in layers which creates more variety in texture and flavor
Once you discover the way of Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, you never go back. It's just impossible to beat.
YES ! I was so disappointed when I seen the video... Hiroshima style is so much better
I bet it explodes in your mouth...
yes, it so damn good.
I guess it must nuke you with flavor...
I honestly love the okonomiyaki, and I had while drinking beer at a festival, and its one of my favorite things ever. I also made it while hungover as well, best thing ever as well. lol
That Yam part shook my whole existence
Assassination Classroom had some "killer" food and was a great show too.
Jcewazhere I absolutely love Assass Class! It is one of my very favorite animes!

Could you possibly make something from the Good Place? (ie Chidis grandmas maafe, tahanis maple butter scones, jalapeño poppers or an Arizona churro dog?)

"I know I said it wrong, I'm just trying to trigger you."
Damn it, it fucking WORKED
I'm cooking this only with replacement ingredients. White vinegar instead of rice vinegar, rocotto and ginger sauce instead of red ginger, chicken broth instead of dashi broth, and cheese Twistos instead of tenkasu (for umami flavour).
Could you make
Beignets from Princess and The Frog!!
Oh my god, I love Sweetness and Lightning and also Binging with Babish.
Wholesome show + delicious food. Priceless.
Also if anyone wants to know the recommendation on the anime, 9/10. It's a show about a daughter and her father bond after the mother's passing through food.
The Gaming Spartan - and they also fight with giant robots, or what?
Yes oh my god Sweetness and Lightning is so wholesome. A delightful slice-of-life that makes my mouth water every episode.
I also highly recommend this. I'm not usually one for these sorts of anime but this one was just really cute and the food looks so good.
I bought comic.. i-it's a brother and sister.. an-and they uh... they um.. fuck, Its about a sister and brother who f-fuck
It’s adorable! Single father, cute little daughter, and quirky teen who all love food. ❤️
Black spaghetti from JoJo's Bizzare Adventure???
Lero-lero with babish?
Just made this, hope to use it for lunches for the next few weeks and it tastes pretty good! Thanks for the receipe!
Ah sweetness and lightning one of the better food anime’s out there
See Also: Ukyo Kuonji's Okonomiyaki from Ranma 1/2.
You might as well also say it's that, if you're more a fan of 90's anime, and want to put yourselves in the situation that a Martial Artist with a Chinese Curse that is 50% boy and 50% girl might find him/herself in when hiding out at the restaurant of his/her childhood friend while being chased by multiple crazy fiances, fighting challengers, crazy principals and a panda dad.
ᵗʰᵉNight★Star Lol that series was great XD
Should be remade!
Love the series! Shampoo is the best! She cracks me up because she is an adorable badass!😍
I might be missing a really big chuck but I don't remember the panda dad bit lol
It should have been an ukyo feature from ranma 1/2 shes the original okonomyaki girl
Mete_TR thats the chick who walked around with that giant ass spatula across her back, right?
@@arsyadidris2919
Yes.
Og okonomiyaki queen
Arsyad Idris
Don't forget the cross dressing part
This looks super tasty. I make mine a bit different though. I use sausage-or sometimes even canned tuna-instead of pork belly, and I use broccoli slaw instead of cabbage (it’s firmer and crunchier).
Please make the wake up cocktail from back to the future 3!!!
Oh no
Ethan Armishaw ?
Hey babish! Cool episode. Can you please make all the foods that Remi made in ratatouille you’ve already done the classic ratatouille, how about the egg omelette he made for him and linguini, or the soup that remi fixes!
THAT JAPANESE YAM WAS INSANE
Sweetness and lighting is such a good anime, it deserves more love!
He needed a paid vid to do an anime food...
Babish might be anti weeb.
Or he just doesn't watch anime.
I’ll sub to him if that’s the case
Is that a bad thing tho
it just means he's missing out on some great fictional food. Food Wars alone has many.
is that bad tho
you should do foods from parks and rec, like the paunch burger or some italian dish from toms bistro in season 7
Was Chris' turkey burger not enough for you?
Submaximum the turkey burger was great, i just think that there is more than one idea for a video to be taken from the show.
The calzone zone, waffles
Please make that Sunday breakfast from Spongebob with onions, ketchup and peanuts
I love how when I finish the series, I get this in my recommendation a few hours after finishing.
Hey gang. Careful with that Japanese yam. They are tasty, but some folks are allergic to them
The Japanese Kewpie mayo makes a huge difference. It’s awesome
I hope you enjoy it.
Can you make the wings from regular show?
do it!
The wing kingdom wings always looked sooo good
Or that burger from that one episode
Smooooth He did the Ultimeatum!
pfft. I'm still waiting on The Sandwich of Death.
Do dumplings from the animated Pixar short film before Incredibles 2
joseph Bao?
joseph They're both called bao, in case you were wondering.
God I've been dying to make them but I can't find a bamboo steamer ANYWERE!
You don't really need a bamboo steamer for them, any steamer will work. You can also find these in some really authentic Chinese restaurants. The full name is tangbao, literally means "soup dumplings/buns", because they are full of meat broth.
Jonathan Bender what kinda steamer are we talking about? I've really only see people use the other one and am pretty clueless about kitchen appliances😂😝☺
Off-topic but Sweetness and Lightning is definitely one of my all-time favourite series, anime or non-anime. Highly recommend giving it a watch.
Do more Asian cuisine! I love Asian food 👍
