Yes, when testing and you hit "stop" it will stop the motor. It's not necessarily "braking" it's just the gear friction is high so it comes to a stop very fast. If you want the car to keep going, I think you can use the manual mode to control the car in vesc. Could you tell me more about what you want to do?
