JullianGG made a video researching this topic so I'll paraphrase it here:
The main reason why the stinginess varies so much in both games is due to them being led by different producers.
Genshin's ex-producer was Cai Haoyu, and was a producer for HI3rd back in the day. His time is HI3rd made the game stingier than it is now. Liu Wei has stepped up as the current producer but Cai still remains the largest shareholder in the company.
In contrast HSR has the same producer working on current HI3rd: David Jiang. HI3rd and HSR has seen a generous amount of rewards under his lead.
It's not that Genshin could never.
It's that Genshin WOULD never.
Does that mean honkai is much more generous now cause i saw that they made so much changes in gacha for f2p and to lessen spending or smthn

CN rewards gives 3 times better than Global.
SEA rewards similar to global. but sometimes the reward is slighty different
This is still the same today. But now they give the same amount plus additional for CN.

Yeah, That would be the case going foward.
Like, I actually have more sympathy towards this Cai guy as a CN player. He basically has the life of a CN anime enjoyer's wet dream. He gets to found the company Mihoyo, be the tech lead for as long as the company is solvable, and when he demands that Genshin be made into a open world ARPG with all the money they had at that point, he struck gold with this do-or-die project. But there comes a point when goodwill towards him runs dry. He is a tech guy with very little empathy and interpersonal skills, and that's fine, but he shouldn't be the main guy running the circus that is Genshin, making the game actively bleeding goodwill going forward.
Too bad he's the head honcho in the company and there are LITERALLY no one to tell him to back off.

I have one problem with the potential concept of Himeko dying in this arc: we don’t know her that well, nor her backstory in this universe. We haven’t spent enough time with her to grow more emotionally attached to her in this universe.
So if Himeko dies in this story, I’m not going to miss her because I barely know her.

@@minhdoanha5293 Because I still enjoy Genshin :) I'll admit they're stingier but I still love the world design, the music, the characters and the story. And overall, Genshin is a lot more relaxing for me....Honkai is a little bit more complicated when it comes to making strong teams. There's nothing wrong with liking both games.

I’m sure even Genshin fans are pissed at how Star Rail have both generous free pulls and good+ very obviously needed QoL early on, when genshin took 3 years to even touch on QoL changes and it still isn’t as good
It's not drama between the Fandom. HSR and HSR players who also play Genshin have complaints about Genshin devs, and Genshin players make drama with HSR players. Genshin players don't want changes to happen unless the CN players have a problem.
HSR players made memes, Genshin players made drama. HSR players wouldn't make memes if the Genshin devs fixed the game, and the devs won't fix the game because Genshin players want to act like everything is fine and attack anyone who criticizes Genshin

Ruan Mei is part of the genius society which follows the Erudition, but she's harmony.
Dr. Ratio is part of the Intelligensia guild which follows the Eruditiion, but he's Hunt.
Black Swan is part of the garden of recollection which follows the Remebrance, but shes Nihility.
Argenti is part of the Knights of Beauty which follow the Beauty, but he's Erudition.
Sparkle is part of the Masked Fools which follow the Elation, but she's Harmony.
Also, Remembrance and Elation aren't paths for characters, they're in the simulated universe. Beauty isn't for characters or in the simulated universe! It's been this way since the beginning, like how Himeko, Dang Heng, March, and Welt aren't the Trailblaze, or Bronya isn't preservation despite being the Supreme Guardian of Belobog which follows the Preservation.

I have overall been very good about not wanting to spend money in this game, the only two characters making me do so being Jing Yuan and Dan Heng IL. Black Swan is definitely a third, between my desperate need for a wind unit and the tarot aesthetic which is my favorite ever.

When chat said "they're two different teams". I swear, whenever I hear this argument, it's like, do they think hoyo just puts them in their own isolation wards and forbids them from ever talking to each other about anything? This very livestream literally had a guest host at the beginning, who is part of the hi3 team. So it wouldn't even surprise me if there are multiple people who also work on more than one team.
I think shaoji at the beginning also works with the hsr team now? If I’m right and he’s responsible for the penacony story, this shows that it’s possible for team migrations and even for team lead switches, or working in 2 different departments at the same time
All this to say I think you’re absolutely right that the argument of being different departments isn’t always valid, it might take some time for stuff to be implemented but the relics QoL we’re getting in HSR seems transferred from genshin so I don’t see why they can’t do the opposite…
@@volatilis_xiphias I mean they already have. That's where the genshin commission system revamp came from. It was changed to be more flexible like HSR's.
Plus, given the fact that he was a guest host and introducing the story, it definitely looks like shaoji is working with the hsr team too. Though as many have said, that also makes them worried that more tragic moments will come as a result.

As someone who has played many gacha games and Genshin (from day 1), the anniversary rewards should be more rewarding tbh. This is just sad. Feels like they dont really appreciate the players and are too scared of giving too much (for Genshin). A lot of gacha games that I've played are giving free 10 pulls for about 10 days and more (some even for a month). Or at least according to how many years the game has been out (eg. 3 years = 30 free pulls). I love Genshin so much but this is just so sad :(

This is why they rebranded from mihoyo to hoyoverse, they have to be two entirely different production companies, that’s the only way this makes sense
MiHiYo is their brand within China and Hoyoverse is their brand outside it.
However you are right about the producer being different for both titles.
Cai Haoyu is the producer for Genshin and was a producer for HI3rd. His time in HI3rd was controversial due to how stingy the game was back then.
Update: Seems Liu Wei has stepped up as the producer but Cai still remains as the largest stakeholder in the company.

What's funny is fate grand order kills characters left and right but we talk about the writing, you will mostly only hear us talk about how well it was written or how good the writer dealt with so and so characters. But honkai players see this guy and can't talk stop talking about depression impact because he showed how already dead characters met their end, and how honkai is just depression. They are the perfect example of *when meme stops being funny and starts to look pathetic*

Already uninstalled Genshin. I better focus on something that is not too time-consuming, and in HSR I can focus solely on actually building characters and following story.
If you have more free time, Genshin may be 'fun' and feel a perfect escapism, but non of us does except actual kids or someone who doesn't work. No wonder many of my friends quit long ago, playing Genshin in such a long time, everyday with almost non-existent QoL changes, sure will burn you out.
Yes, I don't enjoy chasing weasels in the middle of nowhere in the desert. That daily commission is ASS.
It would've been great if they allowed us to offer the oculus to the statues and gain more stamina etc or faster running speed etc.
More dmg when using specific element in specific land or more special attributes
If they are concerned about it affecting Spiral
Then simply have a forced setting where our stamina is capped at 240. Our running speed is capped at x units/min. Etc etc.
It gets real annoying cuz the theme and main concept is exploration of the world.
And the status you offer is supposed to give you even more power in exchange.

Unlike games like Remnant 2. Because enemies are fun to deal with, movement is made to be clunky yet flexible, yet im willing to repeat the world over and over again cuz its fun to actually explore and get stuff.
Here, Genshin the theme of explore is very weak. Its more sightseeing than explore at best.
@Vonmoonlight I agree. There is no more QoL increase when we upgrade statues which most of us forget already, it would be better if we can get stamina reduction at least 😔
What I TRULY want now is, please for the love of god, fill up the commission point thingy whenever we farm domain/leyline using resin. IT IS CRAZY to think in 3 years straight to farm the four daily comms that we already done thousands of time. At least using resin as an alternate to do commission is A HUGE QOL of all time.
HSR already done this since early stage already. In HSR we only have to farm a domain you want, borrow random people's character, and set it to auto, make some coffee, and you're done, easy full commission points.
tbh I think at least one of the reasons that genshin isn't as generous with players in comparison to star rail is the fact that like genshin is MASSIVE theres so many ways to get primos even if you finished the main story and events theres still tons of world quests, abyss, exploration etc etc all giving you primos to pull
however in hsr once youre outta events and done chaos/pf youre kinda out of luck until the next update, aside from dailies theres very few ways you can earn extra jades. they gotta compensate for that hence why they give us a free ten pull every patch and such, its more so to compensate for the fact you run out of ways to earn pulls quickly.
im not gonna try and say the genshin team aint wrong for how they treat the fanbase or anything i dont wanna touch that mess, all im saying is thats at least a contributor as to why hsr appears more 'generous'.
No, if you wanna go compare genshin being huge and hsr being smaller just because it's instanced and not open world there's a lot of comparison of primo/pulls per patch and it's mostly ended with hsr had more pulls per patch despite the game being smaller. In the end, if you 100% the whole genshin and done all events etc you'll ended with nothing to do, the same with hsr and all of gacha games or game with live services, but atleast hsr gives you SU for shit and giggles.
The real cause of why genshin so stingy with it's player is because the producer, the one who lead the development of the game, Cai Haoyu. Track records doesn't lie, he's the producer of honkai impact for few years and in that few years honkai impact doesn't do much in terms of rewards and updates. Sad that Genshin, esp the map designers have such huge workload. Maps are by no means easy to do, even as a former student, doing a level design, there were so many complications simply for a 4v4 game.

Much less Genshin where the map layout has to make sense in lore, natural environment, puzzles etc unlike my work where the only thing that needs to make sense is map flow for combat.

Honesty as much as the drama between genshin and star rail is ridiculous, I do feel like the power creep is far stronger in star rail just due to the nature of the game in comparison to genshin. There’s less FOMO to pull cause people are still using the same national teams in genshin to clear everything man’s yeah it might be more difficult but that’s the only difficult content they have. Meanwhile star rail due to a lack of elemental reactions is more stringent in the power needed to succeed at things like MoC and Pure fiction. It would be great if the rewards were better in genshin as their anniversaries are notoriously bad but it makes more sense why you get so much more from star rail imo. But maybe I’m wrong I’m not an omega math wizard when it comes to star rail and play pretty casually so

People don't understand that Star Rail and Genshin are two very different games on the backend. Star Rail is a much easier (cheaper) game to develop content for, and a significant portion of Genshin's profits are going toward producing the Genshin anime. People need to be patient and understand that different types of games aren't necessarily comparable, even under the same developer.
Nah, the only one hard at work for Genshin is the environment/ level designer... from puzzles to map layout to map interactions etc

QOL / system based department has been very weak development

@@Vonmoonlight Genshin's got its issues, yeah, but they ain't just being lazy. What everyone's upset with is the lack of high-tier animations and copious rewards.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that there's an entire anime in the works with one of the most renowned studios on the planet. That's not cheap. It's probably costing Hoyoverse hundreds of millions of dollars to produce.
That's on top of open world environments and real-time mechanics being far more expensive to develop than walled stage environments and turn-based mechanics. The open world of Genshin is partially a reward itself. It's clear during dev livestreams that they put a lot of passion into the landscape, and they intend players to stop and smell the roses.
Genshin makes a ton of money for Hoyoverse, yes, but the profits left over for rewards are likely lower than those for Star Rail.
It's not inconceivable that Hoyoverse may be attempting to draw perpetually discontent gacha players from Genshin to Star Rail. Get them over to Star Rail, keep them instantly gratified with bread and circuses, and not have to deal with their constant whining. Everybody wins.
i'm very likely to get flamed here and sure none of us get to tell what people should say, but the "genshin could never" joke gets old and irritating really fast. like yeah, we get it, genshin has a long way to go compared to their sibling games. can we just... stop it?
