17:27 is so true, brought my go pro along during my open water and was just video taping everything because I was so excited. End up with more than an hour of footage that takes forever to load from cloud and still have not got around to editing it yet, its been almost 6 months
Thanks so much for this video. I've just got a (second-hand), GP10 after using a Gp3 for sooooo many years. I've watched a number of tutorials on here as I want to maximise the cameras capabilities - and all those tutorials leave something wanting - but not yours. I love it. Your educational style suits me as you give all the important facts in a calm and detailed way without all the intense arm-waving and over-the-top speech-volume (shouting) of so many presenters on other channels. I'm off to the Philippines and Chuuk lagoon next march and can't wait to put your tips and equipment recommendations into practice. Again, thank you so much. **subscribed**!
Woooah you're going to have such an amazing time in Chuuk Lagoon! Enjoy! I'm coming with an updated version of this video in three weeks so stay tuned!
@@DiveSAGA Thank you for your reply - appreciated! At 70 years young it will be the trip of a lifetime. I did the Philippines just before the first global lockdown and this is the trip we should have done then - Ph & Chuuk. The GP10 and associated stuff has been purchased for this trip but the only problem now is that I have learn how to edit videos on DVResolve... 🤔😏
Thanks for sharing all tips!!! What do you recommend at the beginning... shooting or filming? I've just buy my first gopro (hero 10) and we just have the opportunity to stay underwater around 12 dives a year. Of course we want to save these moments. Thanks again!
Very useful and clear video. Do you have any advice on using filters? I assume a filter is good for shooting a wide reef scene, but think for shooting a subject in the foreground I should switch to using a light and remove the filter?
Great Video! It really covered all the most important things. I finally decided to retire my GoPro 5 and upgrade to the GoPro 10, really excited to see the difference. I'm also looking for a new Video light and was considering the Orca D910v but never heard of the Kraken Hydra 5000 before. Could you maybe share a quick comparison between the lights or give some pros and cons please?
@@novatlizrz4931 Natural is good for topside shots. Vibrant is great for underwater where you want the colors. Flat is a lot of work..... you have more control over your colors, but as in this guys' example above....he just edited back to vibrant! Its your time, go easier with Vibrant. You will only be able to tell the difference on a nice color calibrated monitor. How many of your viewers will be using that? Think about it.
You actually don't need much, 2-3000 is probably enought with twin lights. Twin 5000 lumens is asking for burnout and it scares fish when you get up close. The lights paint the colour in during daytime but obviously in a cave or at night they do all the work.
Also, set the White balance to "Native" since the lights are shifting very quickly underwater. And avoid using a physical red filter if the sun is in front of you, you will never be able to re-balance the colors 100%, if the sun is behind you, you will get stunning pictures with a red filter without additional artificial lightning.
Love all the recommendations! Thank you! Question, for your photo settings, you’re recommending having the Lens setting on Linear, which is only available for Standard Output. Do you typically use Standard? If I choose Raw, the Lens options default to Wide. Thanks!
I'm getting a Hero 10 just for scuba vids. I have Adobe Premiere Pro, and it looks like the GoPro has white balance correction. Do you use a red filter, or just use the settings and editing? Thanks in advance
I don't use a filter because it takes away light. In Premiere Pro you go to the color workspace and work with the white balance and tint slider and you can even do color curves if you want!
And... just one more question... Using 4k, 120 frames, 32 gb (30v) SD card, turning off GPS, wi-fi mode, connections, hindsight on 15", full battery. How long could hand a video (one single video)? Around 15' or.. 35'? We are planning the batteries and SD card
@@mxcmead6 linear is in reference to the lens width (super view, wide angle or linear). Not in relation to the recording quality. But that being said I rarely shoot RAW on the GoPro. It depends what you're wanting to get out of it, of course.
Question on the camera mounts. When taking a photo it’s not easy to press the shutter. Especially here (Puget Sound)where we are wearing thick gloves ( not too bad in Hawaii or The Caribbean). Is there any trigger setups that you are aware with mounts?
Great video! Thanks! One question: When shooting video at 120 or 240 fps, do you use ND filters? I am using a red filter attached on the housing, but I'm afraid that if I'm shooting at a high frame rate without the ND filters, especially if it is shallow, I might get overexposed videos.
I get still picture because my GoPro 10 is on the top of my Sony RX100M7 dive housing, i shot picture with my Sony and recording video with m'y GoPro, but If i miss a shot with the Sony, i Always can take a still picture of the 5k video. Somes of my pictures juste goe on Instagram or Facebook (it's 2048 pixels) 4-5k have 2x more so for FB or insta publication, Still from video is ok, but Yes, a Real picture/shot will be better quality (thats my point of view) I also use a Red filtre or vidoo light depending the case
@@DiveSAGA yeah that a great combo GoPro + Underwater camera (GoPro, cannot Make any settings Underwater, but with a dslr/compact in a dive housing it's possible). M'y RX100 is only capable to shoot in 25/30p in 4k and the stabilisation is Not good as GoPro but better in Low light (1" censor help a lot). My last GoPro shots was long time ago (GoPro 2 ) now with the 10, it was really better x)
Thank you for the Tips Saga!!
Any time! 👊

Sir. Colour correction in the video 14:00. What is that application !! Adobe premiere?!
Yes that's Adobe Premiere! Well spotted 🙂
Thank you for sharing this content!
My pleasure!
dive video light does makes a lot of difference.
Really great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting, that's super appreciated! 🙂
Gracias! very useful tipis
Very good and informative video. Many thanks.
Well thanks buddy! I appreciate that :)
Great! Helps me a lot !
Great video ..great easy usable tips ! Thanks Nick
Thank you! Always nice to get feedback!
Brilliant intro for my new GoPro10. I am heading to Lord Howe Island with my new GoPro, having previously been there with my Nikonos V..... 🙂

I think starting with photos is the way to go! Work on composition etc!
Very very good video. Lot´s good advises. Thanks.
Can you recommend a tripod to use underwater to film myself? Place the tripod on a platform, swim up to it, etc?
Good tips Thank you
AMAZING VIDEO!! Thankssss

I usually avoid filters because they steal a lot of light. But people may have different opinions! :)

whats your editing app? Any recommendations?

@@DiveSAGA Okay great, thanks for the quick info. Happy diving mate 👌🏻
Cool tips. Thks. Anw what’s the color profile do you set for video? Flat too?
Correct sir! It leaves the most options open for color correction afterwards.

I'm not really sure of that. I wouldn't shoot 120fps at 4k continuously. The GoPro will probably overheat before the battery runs out.
Thank you!
You're very welcome!

Hi,do You use red lenses?
Never. They take away too much light
So are you suggesting shooting linear instead of RAW? Because RAW only supports the 16:9 format.

To the contrary, you will lose light because each frame will be exposed for a shorter time!
How stupid of me. You are absolutely right. I was thinking about shooting at 24fps to give a cinematic look. This is quite the opposite. ;)
