Hello Thank you for the cool videos! I want to buy an Osmo action 4 camera or a GoPro 11-12. I wonder what will be better for underwater videos and photos, because osmo action 4 only takes 10MP photos. What's your opinion?
Some good advice, I did 30 years of underwater still photography on silver ,Gopro was my first underwater digitalo. I have just rewatched one of my early fillms. Very early I built a wide handrig mounting from 2 to 5 LED underwater lights. My colleagues called this Gopro on steroids. Why? I needed light power for width and LED gopro lights are cheap, $30 but they flood. If I start with 5 LEDs at the end of the week I have two or three still working. Now looking at my film of the sardine run in South Africa, In 15 minutes I have only 5 still shots,k all were on land. What surprised me is that exactly as you said, most of the time I was low, shooting up, I didn't think about that I just did it. My two gopros are brilliant for wide angle video. For still photo shooting they suck, compared to.... What I now dive with is a custom built two hand wide rig with an Olympus TG6 in case, Goipro on the hotshoe, one or two LEDs and an underwater Strobe. I will be filming wide angle video with the Gopro, but still photography and macro with TG6.
Hi, I'm just back from my first trip diving in over 10 years, so these tips are really interesting (though I could have done with finding this video a month ago!). Another tip I'd add to the video bit is to record for longer than you think. When the fish you were recording swims off, leave the camera recording for a few seconds more at least. It helps when editing footage together so that it doesn't feel rushed.
Great info. Diving tomorrow .My GoPro lens has been set on wide lens now I have set it on liner I see if it makes a difference. Also some other handy tips for photos. I mostly use my GoPro for videos but will start messing around with the photos. Thanks for the great tips will try and remember them all for tomorrows dive 👍
@@DiveSAGA ok went on a dive using the liner lens setting I do think there’s an improvement but I can say why but looks much better so I am leaving it on that setting from now on 👍.Photos I used to take a clips from my video for the photos I have now stopped that as there’s a big difference and also taken tips on how to position the GoPro and there’s a big difference on how they look ie not looking down . So thanks for the very helpful tips 🙏
Hi Nick, these are all great tips, as I found out from the video how much I don’t know about it! I was unable to access your Gopro settings link. Is there somewhere else to access it? Thank you! Dave
Yes, very good point!.But it does affect your image and framing so doing it live informs your decision how to frame it. That's why I do it in camera unless I think I will need some kind of wide angle for some reason.
@@DiveSAGA I agree with you to a large extent. There can be a big difference between zooming in later in Post and framing it correctly in the camera, especially with depth of field. Plus, I can feel it when I get in right while filming. I don't get that feeling while leaving it loose to punch in later.
One question: the Go pro 11, 10 and 9 look pretty similar, features wise. with a difference of only 100$ between the oldest and the newest one… worth it to pay an extra 100$ for the 11 ?
I have the 10 and it's fine. I often skip generations. Technology has come so far and the cameras are so good in certain aspects that the only thing I really look at is if their body size has changed and still fits my other hardware that I already own!
@@DiveSAGA GoPro 12 arrived in the post 5 mins ago. Do you know any free Windows apps to get started to set the colour profile on the videos if I shoot raw underwater? Thanks!
I've had better results taking stills from video rather than using the Photo mode of the GoPro. My Photo mode pics are not good for some reason. The one caveat is to get good stills from video you have to change some default settings in PowerDirector, the software I use. By default PowerDirector reduces resolution of still from the video preview, and you have to change that first to get good stills.
Hey. im new with gopro, would like to ask, that how you shoot photos underwater? I'm guessing that you dont push always the top button(e.g. you are holding the selfie stick or the tray, than maybe it would be difficult). Is there any pro tips to this? as I saw that the remote cannot be used under water.
one thing that I find really annoying from gopro underwater is that you can't change settings while diving and situations, scenes, light can change quickly. Planning the moves? yeah, but one setting does not fit all moments. Or is there a way and I don't know? I recently bought my gopro and still getting used to it.
Yes that's a valid point and you are correct. It's why I shoot everything in a very flat profile (definitely not pro tunes) and leave as much leeway for later correction as possible!
If you press on/off, keep it press and press at the same time the start button, you have access at different configurations. You can make those for what you need the most and then use them during the dive.
great advice, but highly disagree that the last photo after trying to take the same a thousand times, its always the first onw and you look at it like WHYY!? I will still take my time and try many times, but so many times is like that... is kinda murphys law haha
I hope everyone is finding some valuable gopro nuggets in this video! Let me know what your favorite tip or trick was!

I would get a GoPro but I don't have much experience with the Osmo
@@DiveSAGA Thank you
Do not shoot down! That makes things look much different.
no more screen shots from your videos😂😂😂you're pointing out to me.

You are very welcome! Thank you for watching the SAGA channel!
Thanks! Do you recommend the colored lens covers for color correction? Or just do the post process?
I don't really use them because they also take away a lot of light

I was unable to access your Gopro settings link.
Is there somewhere else to access it?
Thank you!

Thank you! I think the link is unfortunately broken but I did pick up a GoPro 12 and will be releasing a 2024 GoPro 12 tips video soon!
For video , isn't the Linear setting just doing processing that can be done in Post, where you can control it more?

Thanks for hard work! Really useful! Cannot find that app you recommend for color-correction.
What is the exact name of it?
Thank you! The app is called Dive+
Great content!
Thank you! I deeply appreciate the feedback!
I hope soon i have go pro on my fishing adventure❤❤❤
I heard not put the twist on clear protective filter on the GoPro because pressure can build up. What is your experience?
@@Slabysz I don't really use filters so I have no first hand experience
Is the middle of the day light good time because of light beams coming straight down if not an over cast day?
Yes absolutely

11 has significant update than other two. 9 and 10 and more or less similar.
Fantastic video. Earned a sub
