Great video! Wish I had this when I was ranking up. Your students maybe a bit nervous; make sure to remind them that they are here to learn, so it's okay to be wrong. If they got everything right they wouldn't need coaching. We all need help along the way.
I just found your channel, and immediately subscribed! I actually already knew about the flank strategy with soldier and getting easy pick targets that are high value like Ana and other things but this helped me a lot because i didn’t realize that soldier is also really good at shield spam and melting down tanks as well in rein vs rein comps 😊
I learned a lot from this coaching, thank you for posting it. You say not to attack mei when she has her ice block, but if she doesn't get attacked she will never have to use it. In what roles would you suggest getting mei to use her ice block to open her up for dps to take her down?
Hey! This session was for Overwatch 1. A lot of things have changed with OW2 so that particular advice isnt applicable anymore, you want to pressure Mei now :)
at 13:25 you have the example of shooting an enemy roadhog who is being healed by a mercy, but i was wondering, since roadhog only gives 50% ult charge for damage dealt to him, isn't this a huge economy win for the enemy mercy? i know the pressure applied is still valuable that's why i specified economy. or does the ult charge still add up to the dps getting ult faster than the enemy support despite the roadhog passive?
Hey! Soldier Ult > Mercy Ult, since you can easily kill people with Soldiers Ult even if they are pocketed by an ulting Mercy. In general worrying about enemies gaining ult charge is something you cant afford to do when climbing, you just have to trust that they'll get the ult charge one way or another anyways, and that you just have to get more value out of your ult than they get out of theirs.
I dont agree with two things. If you lose a lot, gaining ti back might take more than just few hours, because elos are similar but his skill wont improve significantly that fast. Other thing I dont agree is swaping heroes if you are countered. There is many games where even one hero on other team does counter you well and if you have some pool of heroes you can choose from, its significantly better to switch to other hero who is better for situation. For example you play dps and your face roadhog and winston and your teanks can deal with them. If you are on soldier, you might struggle but reaper would deal much better with situation. Yes you can always get your pick working and at the end be like: "I did my best" but thing is, you could do a lot more with different pick. My rule is play my favourite hero and switch when I feel like I am not that effective on my pick vs enemy heroes or comp. Its not just about being countered, its about what hero will be more effective. I have actualy my example from other day. I was playing in a game where enemy zen was smurfing. So I tried to focus him to prevent him to carry enemy team. I switched from soldier to Widow and tried to focus him from distance. I actualy made him to switch to widow. But he was better widow and started killing me, so I switched again to sombra and went after him every time and was hunting him many time to the end and he never switched to something else. I would totaly lose as widow because his aim was simply better but he could not deal with sombra. So yeah I think its important to stick preferably to one hero you play the best, but sometimes its more beneficial to swap. But never swap to please your team mates of course :) Anyway I love your videos Iostux, I always learn something from it :) please keep uploading more sessions .)
You say its not worth it to try and get picks on backlines who are hard to kill but arent tanks even harder to kill though? I dont think i quite understand the differentiation. Yes you wont be able to kill a mei or a bap with their cooldowns but youll very likely force them out so they cant use them to help their own team, alleviating pressure on your tanks.
It's a value proposition. If you spend your time trying to get picks who are just going to escape and get healed, then the tanks are less pressured and more free to do damage to yours. If you're able to get those picks easily, then great! But in the other scenario, your more valuable pumping damage into breaking shields and forcing the enemy team to use their resources to keep their tanks alive and putting pressure on their front line. Of course the situation changes constantly and it also depends on the individual skill and choice making of all the other players, so no advice is going to work 100%, but what's being discussed is overall theory and how to play the game. Training yourself to make better decisions.
@@kimyohbee1245 I get that, but my point was that if you waste the enemy backliners resources, they wont be able to use them to spam into their own frontline, so youre indirectly helping your tanks, which might be more valuable than shooting shields
@@Vaz_G I think this was covered in the video. No offense, but this is low elo, so there is no guarantee of a getting a flank pick or forcing out abilities. The easiest thing to do here is to help the team by zoning out the enemy team. If the enemy tanks can't walk forward because of constant pressure, it's an easier path to success than hoping to force out ice wall, freeze, soldier heal, regen burst, immort, and/or rez all while not getting killed yourself.
@@Vaz_G I think he’s trying to explain there is 2 ways to pressure the enemy the lambo of course being the soldier getting picks on the back line constantly like killing the key Ana or the mercy or one of the dmg picks and winning the team fight before it even starts, but then there’s just old reliable and simple pressure like killing a rein shield or orisa shield then spraying into they’re front line dealing massive amounts of dmg to they’re tanks forcing the healers to have to constantly heal them up and helping your team that way. I think he’s trying to get him to realize if it’s a more difficult team comp to get picks on then you need to switch up your play style to fit the situation and be with your team more pumping in dmg to the tanks as much as possible.
For those wondering where the previous video went, I accidentally uploaded the same video twice. Here's the proper upload!
"Why being a team player sucks" is something I probably need a college course on
@Luigi 3K don't worry, sessions dont expire, just hit me up when you wanna go :)

I came here from kajors video. This is some of the best coaching I've ever seen for sure
yo pog
Haha the man himself. I love your videos too they've helped me a ton
This guy answering the questions should be a politician 😂
Another great video. Thank you :)

What would’ve been a better pick than 76, considering the high survival / mobility of the other team?
very good coaching!
You don’t have to ask too many questions you’re wasting too much time then he can simply say idk

Smal note: Roadhog gives 25% less ultimate not 50%

Also you can “kill” tank shields which helps the team much more than failed picks
