I have this one myself, however, if you get a new one now as of Sep. 2022, I believe they come with plastic skids that are either yellow or blue depending on the canopy you choose. I have the blue one with the blue plastic skids. This, IMO, is a major improvement an why I think Fly Wing listens to customer base.
As cool looking as carbon skids are, they are fragile AF. The plastic/nylon one that I have an the newer versions are FAR better an will not crack or shatter on the lightest of harder landings. I've come down pretty hard a few times, an I'm on the original skids. I would have had to replace them each time with carbon, adding a lot of cost.

You know I can not get any of my helicopters to fly more than about a foot at my cabin which is 7000 above sea level so I guess they do have a certain height that they can fly in thin air. Love to see your repairs. You are the only one that I know of that does that on RUclips. I think I will someday get this copter and tell the wife it only cost $50.00. Part of the fun of the hobby is the repairs. Boy that one was like watching a movie.....happy sad happy sad fixing happy.

I hadn't heard that these heli's don't do so well at altitude. I suspect you could change the pitch and throttle curves to help.

I've built and flown 3D helis of every size and most brands. Everything from my Goblin 700 electric, my Avant Aurora nitro, the token Trex 450/500/600/700 to the tiny mCPX. I can tell you now, I don't consider this heli to be expensive. It looks like a great tool to learn to fly with. Simulators are great but nothing beats flying a heli in the wind and other real world conditions. I wish I'd had one of these to learn my orientations. Would have saved me thousands of dollars.

Pretty awesome. The thing I love about helis though is how hard they are to fly and the satisfaction I get everytime I progress. Just getting to where I can comfortably fly my 330s without autoleveling and its real rewarding. This is impressive technology but I dont think its for me.

I've seen another review, and the manual confirms this, that shows when in Acro mode, you only have to flip the right stick quickly from centre to right, and back to the middle, to enter into 3D mode. You do the same manoeuvre again, to return the heli upright.
Maybe you have since discovered this, but I'm writing this having viewed the first 10mins of your video.

I've been flying one of these for a few days now. The biggest problem that I found with this is that motor nut seems to strip every few flights. I just ordered 10 spares. Surely that thing could have been a more durable part. We had one let loose in mid flight and the wreck made so much dirt fly I expected to find a field of parts and not a salvageable heli. (It literally lawn-darted tail first HARD)
The ONLY repair needed was the aforementioned motor nut, and a tail rotor. We were flying again in 20 minutes. Amazing engineering.

Beautiful machine, but I hope one day helicopter manufacturers will get away from designs that make you remove canopies to change batteries. It's just not that hard to make a battery tray that is accessible without removing the fragile shell, and then trying to get everything crammed back in and the canopy back on in the correct way. I have a Walkera 250 that was made about 10 or more years ago that had a battery mount tray below the copter between the skids...wonderfully easy to change batteries.

You're gonna want to take like a month off of airplanes and learn helicopters exclusively. The reason being is that your airplane reflexes are getting in the way. You keep refreshing those neuro pathways and they keep interfering when you go to fly helicopters. I know this from experience. I tried to learn airplanes for a while while also learning helicopters and my reflexes started to interfere. You need to get yourself solid enough on helis that you can fluently switch between the two before you can go back to airplanes if you truly wanna be able to fly both.

It's far from a nightmare, but I would prefer to be MORE in the pilot's seat, and less dependent on a controller that I don't really understand as good as I'd like. At least with the other recent heli's we've done, I get to fly it, and it just LEVELS itself when you make a mistake...and doesn't fly away when you flip the wrong switch. I think this, as with any "super-advanced" heli or drone, we kinda need better communication from the MFG on HOW to change modes and make the heli fly. It's scary when it kinda just does something weird.
