Your comment about the two different palm strikes within Siu Nim Tao and why they are in the form answered a question I’ve had in my mind for what feels like years. Thank you for the mind explosion, I will never see the moves the same way again and I feel so many new possibilities and reasonings have become of it. Thank you Adam for being sincere and a no nonsense instructor.

His emphasis on a natural, relaxed palm for striking is so important

I cannot express how much I appreciate your video is, Adam! I'm a karate-ka, not a Wing Chung practitioner, but I get so much from your videos. Awesome work.

I am fascinated by this style of open hand striking, so relaxed and fluid, yet explosive and rapid. I wonder if backing up with a triple jab could counter such a flurry.

Sign of a great Wing Chun Instructor? One you could listen to for hour after hour explaining the nuances of palm strikes while hitting a wall

Palm strikes can be very powerful. Always reminds me of the monk who slapped water out of a tub and having to fill it up every time he emptied it. My Sifu told me the story

I feel doing pushups with these different elbow positions (inside and out) helps to align the shoulder, elbow and wrist in order to condition against striking with bad form.

Palm strikes open up a whole bunch more striking possibilities. Punching with the knuckles means your body has to be aligned a certain way. If an opponent has rushed up to you and is right in your face, there may not be enough room or time to move your body into the proper alignment to hit him with a closed fist. But, all those palm strikes can be done while you are still squared up in front of him. The only thing worse than being knocked out with a punch is being knocked out with a slap (palm strike). Seems like you can put more force into a palm strike when hitting a body through winter clothes. If you put that much force with a fist then you most likely will bend your wrist upon impact and hurt yourself.

You know.. even me, we need to slow down and listen more .. experts like this will make a point and build, bringing the student down the road of understanding, but if we are all experts nobody learns nothing?? So if you missed the point here, TRAIN AT A HANDICAP it will only make you more efficient in the long run, and punches end fights both ways, a broken hand is fight done usually for most people.. can’t be pukin n fightin same time😜🤘🤘

Sifu Adam, I've subscribed to your online program. So, as an online student, how do you evaluate your student's siu nim tao, chum kiu and biu gee across the net?

I am so interested in qi gong and since I trust you, I would like to know your take on it and if its a good thing to train in conjunction with external training? Some say it's better to become a good fighter first and others say to train both together. What do you think? Any tips on relaxing joints for maximum energy flow? I find it so hard to relax. I know nothing beats repetitive training, but it's always nice to know tricks and tips. You seem relaxed even when you strike with twitching movements. How do you do it?
What about palm striking making contact with the part of the hand between the pinky and wrist like a "karate chop" turned In? FYI, I live in montreal and my baby brother has been living in kitsilano for more than 35 years. Yes, I'm not a youngster.

Perry Pelican everything you do is based on breath. It’s best to learn breath first, otherwise you will be fighting yourself trying to bring your breathing up to your bodies needs. Train Qi Gong first or in conjunction with your other exercise be it yoga, running, swimming, boxing, judo, Wing Chun, gymnastics... doesn’t matter. Breath is life. I do breathing with weightlifting and it makes a major difference.

How does a WC player test their power? Meaning: Since we don't want to give our friends concussions, how can we know that our kung fu is powerful without harming others?

Oh we absolutely love slapping in Pekiti Tirsia Kali. It’s waaaay under rated as an effective means to disorient an opponent’s thought process and facilitate transitions between techniques/finishes, etc. If you under stand how, when and where to slap 👋🏽 it stings and hurts like a bitch. Closed fist strikes are excellent to soft parts of the body, kidney, liver, plexus, throat, groin and for tendon/muscle stuns. Punching the face/head bare knuckles is just asking to brake your hand rendering it useless or at least dramatically lowering your ability to use it as effectively.

this is from some who has relative lengthy training in combat sport (6 years in boxing, black belt in bjj, now currently 2 years into muay Thai). And as a Chinese I thought I tried to venture into wing chun also and had actually tried it out for a year so I like to think I know what I am talking about.
    Here's my thought.
I was extremely impressed with wing chun ability to hit with their faces.
Had fought with 4 wing chun "masters" from so called "different school" after I was extremely vocal with my dissatisfaction with wing chun and the masters thought they will give me a lesson.
One claimed to be direct descendant of yip man or whatever his name was.
Won all 4 fights in less than 3 mins. Send one to the hospital. Was really impressed by how all 4 sect of wing chun practitioners I had fought with attempted to hit my fist with their faces. Repeatedly.
I remembered in particular one who used his face to hit my fist so hard that my wrist hurt for like a week. Even had to go to a hospital to check it out.
You will never learn that from muay Thai, bjj, or other discipline.
One hit so hard with his face he literally spit tooth after our fight. 👍
Also... Why is this in my recommended? Im interested in effective combat spot. Key emphasis on EFFECTIVE.
