ONE mic on the drums? YES! Good enough for Ringo it's good enough for us!! Please download the multi-tracks and hear for yourself! And of course enter to win a AEA R84!
Sometimes just the one right mic on a kit will sound amazing. It’s what Mark Ronson said they did for Amy Winehouse’s back to black album one RCA44 I believe on the kit and my goodness those drum tracks sound amazing
Great mic placement is 90% of the battle. You can have the best of everything with all the bells & whistles to help create a fantastic sounding mix. Yet, without great mic placement, everything will sound like you are in the weeds, a creaky attic or, a flooded basement. Great job Warren! How do you compare the capability of your new Mac Studio computer to the Mac Pro or, Mac Cheese Grater as you are so fond of calling it? Inquiring minds need to know.😊
This mic sounds like an ace up the proverbial sleeve. Worth it's weight. Great performance from the three amigo's as always. It's a real pleasure watching you working. Cheers
I think this is my absolute favorite recording and mixing course you've ever done. I can't believe how good everything sounds. Ive been obsessed with ribbon mics for a while but I only have one cheap one. And I have wanting to get this exact AEA mic. and then you do a amazing course on it! So good! AEA rocks so hard. Ive been having fun mixing the track for hours now haha!
@@Producelikeapro Yeah, I condensed it of course, but it just seemed fitting :D "One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." - J.R.R. Tolkien
I came online basically looking for external justification for me gravitating towards my AEAR84 for basically everything and you are so right. Perfect highs for percussions like tambourine, triangles, bells, also great for trumpet, guitars and bass amps
one mic'ing drums is a whole lot of challenge reward experience. Great performance by all, really appreciate the electric guitar work too. I really like the ribbon on vocal, she's an awesome musician! smooth
I have recently discovered how cool my ribbon mics are. A ribbon through a tube preamp is really nice for acoustic guitar or vocal, or flute, clarinet or whatever.
It's hard to argue with the results here. This mic sounds good on everything. Though it definitely helps to have a great bunch of musicians with nice instruments and a great engineer to boot. I have to imagine it's a very fun challenge to restrict yourself to only one mic, really lets you explore what it's capable of.
hmmm... slowly slowly I think I get the hang of mixing. 1. Have fantastic recordings 2. Even things out and make room for everyone in its proper place 3. Never start with fancy plugins , only do them in the end when something is needed PS: Before number 2, listen and only make changes when you hear something that you should be corected
Really great performance. But seriously Warren, you were so holding back on that solo. I was expecting the triplets to start flying. It was very nice. A little conservative but very tasteful. Did you ever notice this song has the same progression as "Once upon a time there was a tavern ..." .
What can I say - absolutely fantastic from all of you guys! And the mic fits well in in this song. A have this mic and I love it. Last week I also bought the big brother AEA R44. Holy smoke! I'm ruined but happy. 😂 Really love this performance. And thank you for all these informative videos you give us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was on the road touring as a music-type performer playing mostly piano bars, had a night off in downtown Chicago (Rush St) and ended up dancing to this and other songs on the lighted disco dance floor. (I just dated myself, didn't I?!?) 😂
Great content and thanks for multitracks. This channel is masterpeace for people that want to learn music mixing, recording and production. When you boost 60hz and 8k on drums, did you lower the output on eq and how you did it, or you just leave it, because you boost +5db at least. How you manage to not clipping on master channel. Thank you once again.
Hi Warren, thx for all the work I'm enjoying and learning a lot! :-) Do you have to be a member to enter a competition like this or Long way from home?
@@Producelikeapro It will be fun to spend the long evening’s this winter. I don’t have much work at my homestudio but everything I learn can be helpful to use in live situations with coverbands. And it’s all about eartraining, love it, thx 🙏
wow sounds so good. don't think Katie's voice needs smoothing but her voice and this mic just oh my 🙂. always like ribbons on guitar amp cabs too (paired with a condenser best of everything I think); cringe when I see SM 57 mics pointed at cabs with their steep low frequency roll off. everyone should have a ribbon, they can take the SPLs now.
Hi Dave, for me all that matters is the performance we are capturing. If Katie has her eyes closed in order to get that great performance then I am happy

The drums are wicked the snap on the snare

Great you let the tracks sound like they were recorded with a ribbon mic instead of adding too much "sizzle". This track is so easy on the ears. 👍
