that was beautiful. I operated a lathe in high school and made my measurement tools, all my cutting tools, and made an all metal small ball-peen hammer, but didn't have access or knowledge of this tool to make the rounded end of my hammer.
Fascinating! I'm not a metal turner, but I'm a wood turner, I'm sure you won't mind a small negative comment, made with no disrespect. I was always taught, not to use a cloth when polishing, but to use paper towels, as they tear if caught in the chuck or the work, it's safer on the fingers!
I made a boring head adapter that mounts on the side of my cross slide and accepts a 3/4" shank boring head. The micrometer adjustment makes things pretty easy.
Can I suggest that you add a detachable post to the opposite side to the cutting tool. This will allow you to set the tool position precisely using a gage block or spacer of some kind. Also you can use it to determine what point on the cross slide is exactly right for the ball to be perfectly round. A simple depth stop for the cross slide will also make it easy to avoid cutting too deep and getting a non round ball. I hope that makes sense and is useful. I enjoyed your video. Well done!
Looks like the measures app. I’ve used it for years to talk to engineers while on remote jobs. I’d draw the parts I wanted, edit the measurements in, email or text them back to the shop to have them make modified or new parts and gold or red streak them to me. Cool jig! 👍 And it’ll last plenty long enough lol.
Now this would have been done in minutes in a CNC , but where's that fun of doing it with our own fixture ,Our own Tool Mechanism , our own Tools , Take flowers 😇🌸🌸🌸 it was a good technique
Hello new here, Doktor Phinn. We have seen a few radius and ball turn for the lathe builder heck even one for a milling machine a knee mill that one amazed us sense he the gentleman has no lathe. Your ball turn attachment looks really nice however we would like to see (for wear over time purposes) a bearing in the base for smoother flow of operation and as for mentioned wear factors to both the ball turning unit and your lathe cross slide. We see you know it will not last forever (your text) but we wish you would it is really neat to see and want it to be around for ever. Not criticizing, just our wish, a desire for the finely made unit, Thank you. Lance & Patrick.
For smaller diameters, it works fine. But I see your point. I will however try to avoid the use of bearings to keep it simple, affordable and easy to make. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the video and for the Tchaikovsky. Quality in both cases. Nice work!

Love the Music well done. It is amazing what can be done with these tools I made mine years ago. Yours is more elaborate than mine well done.

One of my favorite songs! Great video!
@Archie Bunker nah, i just enjoy some of the classics :)
Those are real machinist hands showing experience. Very nice tool. Nice work also...
Excellent job. I've always wanted to make one for my mini-lathe. Made one using the boring head design for the larger lathe.
Lots of ball fondling & hot curl-on-curl action! One of the simpler types I've seen, which is better. Lots of info in 7 minutes, well done.
Fascinating work. Excellent video, thank you
A true symphony ! very good ! Congratulation !!!
Thank You Gil
Worked out well . Looks like there's lots of ball turners being made at the moment , i have just finished my one ! Cheers .

Thankyou for sharing this love the music also
Very good you are good and great Idea for thaku
Nice music 🎶 neat job
awesome... never seen a tool like that on a lathe
Very Cool ! I used to use A tool to cut an internal Radius.

Thank you we did that in Tech school just using the compound rest and I mean secondary school not a college!!!
Sehr schöne Arbeit und Grüße nach Norwegen.
This should be my next project on my lathe!
Great video! And that is a useful gizmo. The balls could be used for lots of things! It would make a great pommel.
Thomas D Harrell, why? So you can end someone rightly?
Tell me the name of this tool that makes the sphere
What make and model lathe were you using in this video.
Fantastic! I wish I could afford to buy a lathe.
Obrigado por compartilhar seus conhecimentos. Belíssimo trabalho.
Nothing we do will last forever. But that jig is pretty cool while it lasts.
Thanks. That is exactly how I believe we should think about living our lives.
@@doktorphinn6985 thanks for posting this video, iv been wanting to build something like this.

How much time did it take to fabricate such a fine tool?
4-5 hours
@@doktorphinn6985 I couldn't go and buy a tool ìn that time, let alone make one!
5 hours of pure joy!
@@doktorphinn6985 Thanks. If I find the patience, I'll build one. Great machinist work.
Good 👍👍
Nice and repeatable
Good job, we made a similar internal rad tool to cut large rads on roller coaster wheels,
Very good 👍
very nice 🙂
Wow owsome for me😉😉
Beau travail. Bravo.
Nice device👍👍

What has the William Tell overture got to do with ball turning? He had a bow and arrow not a lathe!
@@ronnieg6358 Sorry about that. If you have any suggestions on lathe-related tunes, please let me know 🤗
@@doktorphinn6985How about' To evrything turn turn turn'. like yur video by the way.
Here's another one. 'Turn again Whittington.'
And again something by Chuck Berry.
Kya baat hai bahut mast hai
How much this machen plz send price l want to bay
The jig should be made of 4140. It will last a very long time, especially if it is case hardened.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to change the center screw and some other minor changes soon.

Super sir
Nice work. Maybe not best safety practice to put sleeved arm over spinning chuck like that. Stay safe.
what is the last material you used to polish?
Autosol metal polish
Gooooood Job
Thank you❤❤❤
