I've done this a dozen times now (I buy broken joy cons and fix them) follow a video tutorial and buy the right tool set and you'll have no issues. Just be sure to take your time.
Wow lavender works so well with the Switch. I'm so confused as to why Nintendo seems so hesitant with more unique special editions of the Switch. The 3DS had tons of amazing editions. The boldest design they've gone for so far has been the AC one and merely for the fact that it's the only one with a completely different dock color (IIRC). The Switch has so much potential for mixing and matching different colors, too. A Lavender Switch would've worked well with FE: Three Houses imo.
Grace Gardiner I agree. My theory is that they like the recognizable colors they have going on, but anyone could recognize a switch if it had rainbow joycons with unicorns so I’ll admit it’s not the best theory.
I’m pretty sure they don’t do that because they need to code the joycons, for example if you play with a green joy con it will say it’s green. However if you get a rainbow shell and put it on the green joy-con it would still say it’s green. Unless you code it and make sure it tells the Nintendo switch it’s rainbow it would do that, so if nintendo let people customize joy cons it would take AGES to do that.
@@gracegardiner4554 If you could chose and colour their would be no need for the special switch editions, losing them money in people buying a second switch because the joy cons are green and blue.
I tried changing the thump-grip on my joy-con. It was fun and challenging yet not too hard. I had no experience in assembling and these stuff. If anyone interested but is hesitant give it a try!
They would also make a shit ton of money. Like some people would try collecting them all and joy cons are super customisable because you can mix and match them. Missed opportunity
Holy fuck you're right. I just checked online and they're all out of stock from Target, Gamestop, and BestBuy. And they're marked up to $500+ on amazon. Fucking rip off.
My only criticism is that the volume gets randomly really quiet. It's hard to hear you at times and I suspect that it's because the microphone isn't a constant distance from your mouth or something.
@@mitchtalmadge That's a super valid and fair criticism, I'll try and improve on that in my next few videos for sure. Thank you and I appreciate you letting me know!
I tried this myself a few months ago when changing the left stick to fix drift, and wasn't sure why my right joycon is bulging (and still is). Thanks for pointing that part out!

I just did a swap and honestly from the way people talked, I thought it was going to be so much worse. Compared to doing a full shell swap on a DS Lite, this was cake. Can't even think of ribbon cables without DS Lite flashbacks. That super short cable on the right ended up getting busted on mine but I had a sacrificial joy con and I found on the second go that it's much easier if you do not disconnect the cable from the board. Instead you take off the shoulder button and unscrew it, then just gently keep it out of the way while dissembling the rest. I don't think I even disconnected some of the tiny cables and just took the board with the piece underneath right out. Another tip, when putting the shoulder button back on, it's easier if you find the part that clicks to the case and line it up, then press down. The most I had to do was tilt it slightly it so the parts locked together. I say this only because I noticed some people just put it in the general area and then try to force it down, without finding the little bit that the button latches onto before hand. The springs can go on at any point.
First sign that you’re a tech dude is you not getting discouraged easily from all the stuff inside the controls. I would’ve freaked and closed it back up before giving it a shot. This video was like asmr but for my eyes haha nice!

HI for anyone who has trouble with the trigger springs, please for the love of god do this to make it easier for yourself! This post is quite long which I will talk about my experience of modding the switch and offer some insight and solutions for the same issue ^^ I have modded my switch so I could have that beautiful baby pink color 😍❤️, and I did it!! Everything was working just fine but after a week the right Joy-Con was no longer can be played while it’s detached from the switch which it was fine by me at first, but then slowly it was getting worse. It became unplayable on free mode + it can’t be charged. I kept investigating on the issue and I finally got to the conclusion that it has to be the fiber that’s responsible for the sync. Aaand it turned out that one of the fibers was indeed severely bent which it can be hard if not impossible for the nodes to flow the way it should be which means the signal is heavily distorted 🤦🏻♀️. From what I could tell that is the original shape and position that came from Nintendo. Note: when the fiber is bent is not always means that the Joy-Cons will not be playable but it indicate that the durability and the likelihood of it life cycle will be much shorter than it should. I understand that Nintendo wanted a portable console with mini Joy-Cons, but forcing the size to be slim and small with cheep material is definitely not the way to go 😫. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of Nintendo, but I can’t help but wish if they just increased the quality of their material a little 😩 and here is the suggested solution for this issue if anyone facing the same thing: - if the fiber is not severely bent but the signal is quite distorted.
