While diet is important and most of us in the US know our dietary habits overall aren’t the healthiest, the thing that’s missing here is that health and longevity in Blue Zones is about a holistic way of living, not simply diet. People in these zones are often active on a daily basis, minimize stress and emphasize the importance of social relationships. It’s the entire way of living where the sum is greater than the whole of the parts.

In IKARIA Greece, they consume about three to 4 glasses of red wine with each meal. The wine is made by the people who drink it. Lots was left out of this news piece like lifestyle and social aspects.

The Seventh Day Adventists are taught by their religion to abstain from alcohol completely. Red wine is not required for the Blue Zone diet! We can get the benefits of grapes by eating grapes.

@DDream 1986 Could be a troll, or his grandma might be a genetic oddity. No one should assume they are gifted genetically and eat and drink as if they could get away with it. Large population studies like the China Study and the Adventist Studies tell us that we should eat the Blue Zone diet and avoid smoking. The Adventists do not drink alcohol, by the way. Too many people get most of their antioxidants from coffee. Coffee isn't bad for you, but green tea is better.

Then others have said these are okay or good for you --- and that it's refined sugar, refined seed oils, and starches (rice, pasta, corn, chips, biscuits, pastries, bread [except whole sourdough] that are unhealthy.
