Ryan and Metal Mike, just heard Headbangers Ball with the Guru. It truly slays, guys. Nice work. Can't wait to hear more from you guys. I live drumming along with it. Keep it up!
I've been rocking my way through this series and having an absolute blast! For like a week there's been no movies, no tv shows, no video games. It's basically just been living room to watch an episode and take notes, then spare room to research on the pc. I've picked up so many new bands and albums it's unreal. One of my favourite moments just happened there where you guys told the story of how Autograph formed. I'm a massive Autograph fan. I love all of their work. In fact just last week I bought the Fright Night soundtrack just so I could get "You can't hide from the Beast Inside". I've made a digital copy and inserted it into the 1985 album where it rightly belongs. It's one of their best tracks and it's trapped on that soundtrack. 3 episodes left after this one 😢

For a synth player like me, 1984 was the awakening and the most important cornerstone .. but we were still hidden behind the curtains throughout the 80s .. :)
Glad your cohost included Y&T, Great band! Growing up in Reno, NV. I remember many trips to California to see them many times. Mean Streak is a great album cover!
I love your reply to Bryan Adams Reckless. Really good album! Not sure when Honeymoon Suite, The Big Prize came, another good one! A lot to choose from.
So much to choose from I love the 80's rock music. Their was Tyketto, Hurricane, lead singer for Foreinor. Cobra was leag singer for Survivor. Loved Dokken! I loved the 80s
I watch your podcast all the time, I enjoy it immensely and look forward to watching it. Great subject matter music I grew up with and I am 59 years old and a big collector of music and other hobbies. My musical taste is very eclectic which does take lots of time and money, but it is worth it. Still seeing concerts, I did see Kiss on their last farewell tour. Live in Detroit area after living in Florida for 25 years. As you know Detroit put Kiss on the map for sure. I also did see Black Sabbath's farewell tour and other shows. One great concert in 1984 that I went to was Dio's "Last In Line" tour with the opening act being Twisted Sister "Stay Hungry" tour. It was an awesome show and some dood was drunk and sleeping in the pavilion in his chair and Dee Snider woke him up and yelled at the guy and said "if you want to sleep at a concert go see a Englebert Humperdinck concert, because there is no sleeping at a Twisted Sister concert"!! He wound up the crowd and people instantly became Twisted Sister fans. My sister's boyfriend went to the music store and bought all their music the next day. Dio kicked ass it was a show I never wanted to end. Got to hear Rainbow, Dio's Black Sabbath's music but no Elf, Elves or Ronnie James Dio and the Prophets, lol. Dio could sing any style of music and you brought up some great memories for sure. Also it was an outdoor show at one of the best concert venues in America called Pine Knob in Clarkston Michigan I have seen countless shows there. My point is Pine Knob is not connected to Ticket Master etc so you can see a show at a much more affordable price. No bad seats, it is a bowl and has a pavilion for assigned seats, holds 15,000 people, free parking unless you go VIP. They let you in early so you can tailgate, rock out or whatever. It has won as being the best concert venue. For a while it was called DTE Energy but it's been changed back to being called Pine Knob. In winter it is a Ski hill and during May until September it is a concert venue. I highly recommend seeing some shows there, you can see shows and still grow your music hobby. So check it out there is nothing like a Detroit audience and Pine Knob.
Hey, man, thanks for the great message and for supporting what I do, I really appreciate it. I've heard of Pine Knob, and, yes, Detroit are fucking legends for their support of rock bands... would be great to see a show there. You should check out the Twisted Sister documentary... it's currently free on RUclips. Thanks again, Richard.
Another great video!!! BTW, Michael Shrieve from HSAS was the drummer in Santana from 1969-1975. If you watch the Woodstock movie he is the drummer for Santana that does that awesome drum solo.
Plunk… Ish… and Lynch… When Autograph reformed after the passing of Isham, they did so without a keyboardist so their live version of Turn Up The Radio that they were playing during the Get Off Your Ass era was like you guys are talking about. Also, Keni the drummer was the guy in the band that was good friends with David Lee Roth which got them on the VH tour. Steve Plunkett had previously been in Silver Condor as a guitarist for their second album. Silver Condor had a semi hit with the song “You Could Take My Heart Away” from their debut album before Plunkett joined.
Hey, thanks for all the great info... just listened to "You Could Take My Heart Away"... not quite like Autograph... haha. Appreciate your contribution, Brother.
Another great video with Ryan! Also, thanks for the member shout out at the end! Out of the Cellar would also be my favorite from 1984. Glad you mentioned Icon and Great White in the honorable mentions. My honorable mentions would include Reckless- Heart of Steel, White Wolf - Standing Alone, Wrathchild - Stakk Attakk, Giuffria- s/t, Vyper - Prepared to Strike, and Kick Axe - Vices. I also gotta mention Shire - S/T EP, Don Dokken produced it and you can definitely hear his influence on it. Swift Kick's Long Live Rock is another great EP from 84 as well
I need to revisit Reckless, White Wolf and Vyper... thanks for the recommendations, Matt. I'll see if I can find that Shire EP as well. Hey, Brother, thanks again for supporting what I do, man, it means a lot...
If you like Dee Snider you should check out the two solo albums he did in recent years. For the love of Metal and Leave A Scar. Both are excellent. Heavy rocking albums with just a touch of pop. I had that "revisit a cd" experience just a few days ago. The album is Kix - Blow My Fuse. I've owned the album for years and bought it because of the song 'Cold Blood' , but I never actually listened to the album. So I decided to put it on a few days ago and HOLY SHIT that album rocks! Top to bottom bangers and not a bad song on it. I feel stupid for not listening to it for so long. I had a similar experience with High N Dry a few years ago (21 i think) I had every DL album around HnD but never bought HnD or listened to it aside from the singles. I went to the ONE record store in Orlando one day and saw it and bought it. I put it on in the car on the way home and it blew my mind how good it was. Again, I felt stupid for ignoring it for all these ears.
Haven't listened to those new Dee albums--I should give 'em a spin. And, shit, that happens to me frequently. I have so many CDs... I wonder how much great show I don't know about because I listened to something once and threw it on the pile... haha. Thanks for watching, man.
Good call. And, I get you, and KISS had done a ballad before with Beth... but the first real hair metal ballad by a hair metal band may have been Alone Again.
Back in the day I would buy a album 90% on the cover and the way the band looked on the back, a show on album art is a great idea, great show as always

My #1 for '84 is Wrathchild - Stakk Attakk. A week hasn't gone by since the day I got it (in '84) that I haven't played it. Special ordered for me by the great Bob Plotnik (RIP) because it was impossible to find in the US. The follow up (The Biz Suxx) is equally as great. As for WASP, Fuck like a Beast was released prior to the debut as a single in Europe on the Music For Nations label (I actually have the 12" & the picture disc). It was hyped something like "the single they don't want you to hear from the band they don't want you to see". I'm with you on the revulsion for pineapple on Pizza...that will get you clipped where I come from. 😂🤣 and Summer of '69 still makes teary like a bitch to this day. BTW if you want to hear the origins of pretty much every Hanoi song, throw on L.A.M.F. by the Heartbreakers
Hey, Brother, thanks for the comment, and I need to revisit that Wrathchild album, it's been a while. And, yeah, a lot of Johnny Thunders in Hanoi Rocks, completely agree. Appreciate you always supporting what I do, man.
Oh how could you leave off prince purple rain album just listen to the music and some of those guitar riffs. I know it's not hair metal or anything but it falls in place with Bryan adams which I love reckless as well. Still good lists. Someone on here needs some hair for hair metal lol. Everyone has short or no hair on a hair metal channel 😂😂😅 love you guys honestly love the channel keep it up.
Hey, Jeremy thanks for supporting what we do, man, I appreciate it. I prefer to think I'm not bald, but just a dude with a shaved head... makes me feel better about myself.
Thank you for mentioning Lita Ford-Dancing on the Edge!! That album made me a Headbanger. Also agree with Ratt, Dokken, and WASP. Hanoi Rocks never made it cus they sucked lol. Y&T I tried, but could never really embrace them.
Hanoi Rocks sucked? Ouch. Haha. Definitely an acquired taste. Agreed, Lita needs some love on the channel at some point. Hey, Brother, your support for the channel means a lot, man, seriously, I appreciate it.
You think Hanoi Rocks Sucks but Lita Ford in in your top 5? Have you ever seen either one live? Lita has always blown dog & Michael Monroe is 60 & runs circles around singers half his age while Lita is playing to backing tracks in front of 50 people . What the fuck is wrong with you?
Hey guru, new sub here. I think if you give Knights of the New Thunder a chance you might like it. TNT was heavier on that album. Listen to seven seas or deadly metal, great songs. Love the channel bro.
It's all about how many albums are available to you. In '89 there were so many great fucking albums that I didn't have to choose anything that only had 2-3 great songs... but the earlier you get into the genre, there's not as much to choose from in some years. And, totally possible that I just missed out on some stuff as well.
condition critical - quiet riot wings of tomorrow - europe tooth and nail - dokken i admit freely, i struggle with albums from prior to 1987, mostly because i wasn't musically aware before then, and when i go back to those albums, the sound, production, and cheese-factor often lessens my enjoyment.
Other albums could have made the list iron maiden powerslave(not hair metal haha),queensryche the warning, yngwie rising force,Europe wings of tomorrow and one of my favorite albums to blast when I the car although not hair metal is metal church self titled(the first 4 songs will melt your ass!!!!!
I like that album... I don't know if it goes beyond that, though haha. Thanks again, Lucas, for always supporting what I do, man, I really do appreciate it.
No love for kick axe on the road to rock .that album was all killer no filler i mean it had the most kick ass song for the drive to the concert back then "on the road to rock". Come on the song heavy metal shuffle. You dropped greatwhite for brian adams.

@@HairMetalGuru419 yes i love Lita Ford she is in my top 5!!
Hey, Gray, appreciate the support, man. I'll give Knights another spin based on your recommendation, Brother. Appreciate you watching.
I'm struggling to understand how you can rate an album so highly for 2-3 great tracks?
It's all about how many albums are available to you. In '89 there were so many great fucking albums that I didn't have to choose anything that only had 2-3 great songs... but the earlier you get into the genre, there's not as much to choose from in some years. And, totally possible that I just missed out on some stuff as well.
Check the song “All Or Nothing” off Slide It In. There are more good tunes than just the 3 you guys called out.
Shit, you're right, that's a good fuckin' song. Thanks for the reminder, man.
condition critical - quiet riot
wings of tomorrow - europe
tooth and nail - dokken
i admit freely, i struggle with albums from prior to 1987, mostly because i wasn't musically aware before then, and when i go back to those albums, the sound, production, and cheese-factor often lessens my enjoyment.
I completely hear you. It's hard to have a major connection to albums that were put out before you hit your personal musical stride.
I had considered Europe... I haven't spent much time with Metal Church... I should give them a shot. Thanks, man.
No love for the Bon Jovi debut?? 😭😭
I like that album... I don't know if it goes beyond that, though haha. Thanks again, Lucas, for always supporting what I do, man, I really do appreciate it.
How about wrathchild stakk attakk
Damn, I know that album, but it's been a long time. Gotta check it out again.
@@HairMetalGuru419 the song law abuzer is pretty catchy.
See an old picture of Bryan Adams he had super long hair and hey so did James hetfield
No love for kick axe on the road to rock .that album was all killer no filler i mean it had the most kick ass song for the drive to the concert back then "on the road to rock". Come on the song heavy metal shuffle. You dropped greatwhite for brian adams.
I know Kick Axe, but I haven't listened to them a ton... need to revisit. And, yeah, I fuckin' love Reckless.
Lee Aaron is not the metal queen. Now give me Doro Pesch ! that's the true queen. I will pick the Warlock "Burning the Witches" album for 1984.
Hell yeah, she has always been the metal queen and always will be. How did lee aron get the title. Doro is still hot as hell and still delivers
@@denalemay5578 You're right, Doro is still a smoke show at her age.
I'm definitely a Doro fan... probably more Doro than Lee Aaron for my part.
Sticky Sweet was the tune…
after 5150 I didn't buy a lot of Van Halen albums
I like Van Halen a lot, but I wasn't out buying their albums in the late '80s. Thanks for watching, man.
Tell ol buddy to stop trying to sing, he’s making Don Dokken sound good!!!
Shit, I wish I could sing like him! Don Dokken on the other hand... yikes.
