- Surveillance footage showed the moment a Florida home along the coastal town of Horseshoe Beach broke apart under the force of floodwaters from Hurricane Idalia on Wednesday (August 30).
Emergency services, including National Guard troops, were deployed in the wake of the storm that has left a trail of debris and flooding along the United States' Gulf Coast.
More than 280,000 homes and businesses were without power in Florida as of midday and 160,000 customers were similarly affected in Georgia, Poweroutage.us reported..
Insured property losses in Florida were projected to hit $9.36 billion, investment bank UBS said in a research note based on preliminary estimates.

That's quite some wind too
Does Florida have building codes? If not, adopt some. If so, enforce them.
That's not wind damage, that's storm surge, that's the number one killer of hurricanes. If it was just wind, those houses would have survived except for some roof damage, a broken window or 2 and some lost siding perhaps. Remember, you can hide from the wind, but you must run from the water! I don't care what your house or building is made of, that much water moving that fast is going to sweep anything and everything in its path! Sure you can go to the 2nd or 3rd floor, but if then 1st floor gets knocked out, you know the rest of the story. This is why when they tell those in surge prone areas to leave, it's usually the best decission to do so. There are a lot of bridges, and even masonry structures that get ripped off of their foundations with surge like that as is the same with tsunamis. What I find sickening is the smart ass jokes being made about these homes, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies. Think of yourself in that situation, seeing everything you own and worked for demolished. This could be the home of an eldely person, a single mother with young children, or disabled vet who is now on the street with nothing, have some compassion!
😮😮😮😮😊😊😮😮😮😮t😮t😊😊😮😮😮
Home? Looks like my GP's.
That is not a House...its a shack with plywood walls.
LOL, i'd like to correct you on this. A shack would be considered a "structure" a mobile homes is considered a vehicle. To get the title in your name you go down to the DMV, not the court house. So, this is not a shack with plywood walls, this is a vehicle with plywood walls. LOL
Why live in a shed in the first place...
Because they probably can't afford a house. Duh.
🙏🇮🇹
A home 😳🤔
I've built stronger sheds
My shed is stronger
Shocking to see homes destroyed by hurricanes in US but why oh why are most of them built from flimsy timber and plywood, surely bricks and mortar would be safer, I'm not an expert could some one explain please?
Lots of people are poor and can't afford stronger houses built from bricks and motar.
