- At least two people have died when Hurricane Idalia made landfall in the US state of Florida.
Up to 230,000 properties are without power and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.

This is exactly how it is. I live in this area. Fortunately, my small home is on higher ground and stilts. Generational Floridians
are used to big storms. Many still live in smaller raised homes.
We here are all very thankful that God spared us a direct hit.
Many have left to help in Horseshoe Beach, Keaton Beach, Steinhatchee, and other small towns in the impact area.
It's amazing they're allowed to build on the beach, seriously, in the tropics houses should be on stilts not on the ground

They can get insurance for floods/hurricanes in Florida and fires in California; it's just the premiums are that thru the roof that nobody in their right mind would want to pay them

amazing, folks build on the beach then cry foul when the beach erodes Folks build near the forest then cry foul when there is a forest fire folks build near water then cry foul when their property is flooded & they all scream how Insurance isn't enough ...meanwhile over in the real world... the same folks are buying the least amount of Insurance required knowing where they live is a well known hotspot for natural disasters
