I've been watching the mini painting community since Covid started, but didn't really dare start until I saw Rob's Slapchop video. I bought some Skinks and some Plaguebearers and brushes and Speed Paints and went for it. I think there were a lot of others in the same boat as me, and new Speedpaint and new Contrast paints lend themselvesa to the technique. Rob packaged undercoating in the right place at the right time. New people are attracted to the hobby. Call it a win.

At the time of this writing, I _just_ finished my Dominion box Kruleboys using Slap Chop. It was my Orktober project, and it went super fast. I don't know if I've ever painted this many models this quickly before, and they came out like a dream. (Except the Gutrippas, but that's because I hadn't figured out the paint scheme when I did them; gonna need to repaint later). I started them halfway through September, to be fair, but it's still been a breeze. At least by my standards. I'm not a fast painter. But these boys came together real fast, thanks to Slap Chop.
    Would recommend slap chopping.
I'm honestly feeling a little bereft, now that I have no more Kruleboys to paint. At the same time, I'm glad to be doing something besides that.
On the subject of themed months, I have my own personal theme next: "Gnollvember". I'm gonna grab a box of Frostgrave Gnolls and paint up an unit of "Bestigors" with them. Just a unit, I'm kind of tired of big army projects. A single warband for use in skirmish games is, I think, enough for now. Though I'm also thinking of writing blog posts about Gnolls in D&D, so it's not completely a wasted month. On the painting side, I've got loads of other projects in the Pile of Shame I need to get to.

I saw slap chop in the title and almost didn't click because I'm sick of everyone talking about it, but I'm a fan of the podcast so want to support. It's a very useful technique but nothing new or revolutionary. It's a zenithal highlight and transparent paint. Uncle Adam has been painting like that for years. Looks good, not worth the over-saturated attention.

Siskel and Ebert each had only 1 thumb to contribute to a movie. A single thumb was one of them indicating that the movie was worth watching in the theater. Two thumbs was both of them indicating that the movie was worth watching in the theater.
Giving yourself multiple thumbs is rating a product on a 4 point scale. If you start using things like half-thumbs and no-thumbs, then it's a 7 point scale. And, you might as well just use something more familiar like a 5 point or 10 point scale to rate the product.
However, I think there's value in the simple, single thumb "Buy it!" recommendation. Because, what is a 7 of 10? Is that a recommendation to buy? What does that mean? The single thumb method also gets better with 2-3 reviewers, because it makes more of a statement if all are in agreement that a product should be bought.
