    The fungus in short is called Cordyceps. It does basically turn ants and similarly sized insects into zombies that do what the fungus wants, finding a place to climb and then remain there where the spores can be strewn far.
    The Last Of Us is based on a fictional version of this fungus, literally referred to as Cordyceps in the game, so it was a mutation that functioned differently and specialized on humans.

    • @firstnext5482
      @firstnext5482 Год назад

      Media needs to leave Cordyceps alone already. It's being used way too much now. They're piledriving it into the ground, are beating the dead horse past the point of recognition, and are in orbit around Jupiter from how far they jumped the shark. It's lost all "oomph".

      @zaingamingtv2242 Год назад

      @@LeHyperTech cordyceps is literally prescribed as a medicine for humans. That how harmless it is. But in all fairness the goal of all bacteria and for that matter fungus isn't to kill the host but to simply leech off the nutrients the host acquires. Death of the host is nothing more but an unwanted side effect. Fungus will never evolve to harm humans cuz there is no point doing so. Some of the most deadliest bacteria are cross species bacteria that don't harm the species they initially evolved to adapt to. Also fungus and parasites are living things. It's weird but I will say that fungus do no mutate like bacteria. They are very much "stable".

    • @ainulvr9808
      @ainulvr9808 Год назад +77

      @@zaingamingtv2242 Obviously it wouldn´t work in a sense of directing a new action, but it very much could work in the sense of enhancing aggressive behaviour to the point someone just rampages, and spores transmitted throughout lungs etc. is likely too. At that point it wouldn´t be cordyceps anymore and it´d be more likely to be some whole ´nother fungus transmutation.

In the beggining the radio signal thing, it could have been communication between "This man" and infected, because they saw him in dreams and the signal was at night. • @aaaaaaaaaaaaaa2301
      @aaaaaaaaaaaaaa2301 Год назад +20

      @thelelanatorlol3978 Год назад +6

      Definitely not. Horrors left to the imagination is much scarier than those that are fully revealed. Even in real life, if someone or something is in your home, you're going to more terrified not knowing who or what it is and more importantly where it is compared to seeing very clearly what the intruder looks like and what weapons they are carrying and where they are moving through the house through a security system.

Showing the monster, showing it to be a real, tangible threat creates a flight-or-fight response, it makes you want to run. That's why horror games often have chase scenes, it's a way to get you to feel in danger. Dread lasts longer, but that terror feels far more intense. Cordyceps differs from most of its brethren however, in that it is actually classified as an endoparasitoid fungus, mostly on insects and other arthropods.
    And if the name _cordyceps_ sounds familiar, it should: the zombies of _The Last of Us_ are essentially the victims of a mutated strain of _cordyceps_ that now affects people rather than bugs.

    I'm only an hour late. Also Ryan I know you'll probably never read this with all the other comments you get but you really brighten things for me. As a humble fan I hope you're doing good and I always enjoy a good laugh or scare with you. Though your edits sometimes scare me more than the game. 🤣 Keep on keeping on Ryan and thanks for the content. Always a treat.

    It's a shame the creator has retired this series, one of the few analogue horrors where I was there from video 1 and I loved it, even if you think the faces thing is cliche, I dunno, I still have this primal enjoyment of it

    7:27 you are talking about the ant fungus here is some info I found on the web about it
    The fungus Ophiocordyceps camponoti-floridani can infect ants and manipulate their behaviour in a way that is beneficial for fungus growth and transmission. These infected ants are also called zombie ants. Influenced by the fungus, the ants climb to a high point and bite into a branch, attaching themselves until death

    6:22 Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that has a number of uses by our brains and bodies. In the brain, it helps with arousal, motivation, and memory, in the body it helps with the regulation of muscle contraction and body movement alongside dopamine. In Parkinson's patients, who lack dopamine while maintaining average to high levels of acetylcholine, suffer from uncontrolled movements and rigidity of the muscles caused by the imbalance. I think that those suffering from this fungal infection may be suffering something similar to Parkinson's Disease but it mainly affects there facial region as opposed to their other body parts.
