My favorite Rammstein ballad. "Ohne dich" means "without you". And yes, the song is about missing or losing someone.
This is probably my favourite Rammstein Song and Video, because it is the most emotional and it really touches me deep down in my heart every single time when I listen to it.
A little backround info: The tin plate Oliver is working on while they are sitting in the tent, is Till's gravestone. They know he won't make it back down the mountain alive. The regisseur of this video likes to stay as true to reality as possible. This really used to be and actually still might be (I don't know, but I don't think so) the way mountain climbers put to rest their fallen comrads, because they had nothing else than stones to bury their loved ones and the tin plate to make a grave stone out of.
Have to agree. The songs before this that were my favorites were Seeman and Morgenstern. I made the later into my own interpretation of a "poem" for a friend in highschool and she basically said that it helped her from committing suicide because of it.
People that don't look into the lyrics of Rammstein or don't understand them are missing out....
But true. Ohne Dich is one of the most beautiful songs I know.

Very nicely done, Swaggy. I loved how you got into this one, bro. The song (translation-wise) is about someone who lost their loved one. He goes out into the forest, which was their favorite place to be together. Yet, when he goes into the forest, he realizes that even the forest isn't even enjoyable anymore. It's about how, when you lose someone, everything else loses meaning, and that causes one to not be. I do believe Till passed away in the vid, but the important thing is that they went back for him, took him with them, and laid him to rest on the peak. Give us another one, Swaggy! I vote the Amerika music vid. Fun little vid and tune. 😁

Probably their best ballad. This song was so good live. We all went from being super hyped and excited to quiet and emotional when they started playing this. It was an experience for sure.
They can convey their message even to people who don't speak their language. I've watched people listen to them and not understand the lyrics, but understand the song's meaning. The videos sometimes help, but their artistic musical skills convey their message just fine. They also cover a wide range of topics. In one album you can have a song slow, sad, and serious like this one, and a song about male genitalia right after. Politics, religion, plastic surgery, balancing your love for your country with it's dark past, etc. They have a song about it all.

Btw. I highly recommend you to watch a bunch of their older music videos from before 2009, before checking out "Haifisch" from 2009, since that one has a bunch of easter eggs from older videos.
Many people write it's about the loss of a loved one, but that's too simple. The lyrics go: "Without you i can not be... With you i am also alone... Without you i count the hours .. With you seconds stand still.. it 's not worthwhile" So it is about missing somenone although not being able to appreciate the person/time with the person when he/sehe is there. Like a partner you love but don't really get along with, and still missing her/him after breakup. Or like a mother/father that one didn't get a long with but still is missed badly when he/she died. Also it can be about religion and God after becauming an atheist. Or it can be losing oneself going into the woods to commit suicide. But this Interpretation is up to you.

To your question: my father was a climber on rock as well as glacier/ice climbing. I mainly go hiking in the mountains. I can tell you, climbing or even climbing a mountain, especially the Alps with all its pitfalls, requires a lot of concentration and focus, you have to prepare yourself before you even think about hiking/climbing. You have to have a good body feeling, strength to the front fingertip. You fight with fear, overcome yourself and have death on your neck. The most important rule is to maintain respect. The mountain will always win and if you ever experience a thunderstorm in the mountains, a sharpening, a fall or a rock break you will know what I mean. But once you are at the top, you will have a view that few people know and you will see what you were capable of as a human being. This is a wonderful hobby and every climber does superhuman things.
Death accompanies you and almost every day hikers and mountaineers die in Switzerland, so as one who is often in the mountains, you know one of the victims. It is hard, but it is part of it. It is dangerous and the mountains rarely forgive you, no matter how small the mistake.
To Rammstein, I recommend "Amerika" next. Or if you would like to see a special Flake interlude, look: "keine Lust" Musicvideo 😉

btw if you like this 'darker/deeper stuff' i'd highly recommend the german band "deine lakaien". their studio-produced stuff is quite different from their 'almost classical' concerts. many videos you find here on YT are made by fans (usually just black-n-white-slideshows of pictures of nature), but e.g. for their song "return" you can find both: studio/official video (watch?v=R51_fmw2oXU) and concert (/watch?v=NtD0EOTCWrQ).
oh, and the best is, that there aren't 4329823743498274387 YT-channels out there reacting to them, so you might have the chance to start a trend here. :)
I suggest you watch the official video for the song Hailfish. In the video they bury Till, the singer, after his death in the Ohne Dich video. During the funeral the other members of the group convince themselves that the others are responsible for his death (with flashbacks taken in various other songs of the group) and end up fighting. While the words of the song say the exact opposite of what is shown in the music video.

RAMMSTEIN is the BEST METAL band in EUROPE.....
I’ll say best in the world. Lots of incredible metal bands in Europe, and an unbelievable amount in the US, but for lyrics, musicality, and showmanship, you don’t get better than Rammstein. I’ve seen just about all the big metal bands live except Metallica (it’ll happen one day) but none come close to Rammstein. Nightwish puts on a hell of a show, but it’s still night and day to Rammstein.

You are getting too distracted by the video IMHO. Listen and see through the act. These are highly professional artists. Songs have 2 main components: melody and music are one component, poetry is the second. Poetry is language made to sound pretty. A sung text may be as vile as it is, it's still language in a pretty and rhythmic form. See through the act!
