I first have to say I am a medical professional. Yes to ultrasound of liver, Yes to rheumatologist, Yes to an Infectious disease specialist, along with a Cardiologist. Your need to build your own team of health care professionals. This is you taking control of your own body and it's care. God speed in your journey.

Please don’t disregard any particular specialty they request. You can alleviate the unnecessary ones after they figure things out. Praying for you and positive results🙏🙏🙏

TICKS! Get a FULL TICK PANNEL DONE and test for ALPHA GAL, as well as lyme, rocky mountain spotted fever, and all the others. I have alpha gal (I'm now allergic to mammal) and when im exposed can have hives, shortness of breath, heart palapatations, severe joint pain, swelling, and anaphylaxis. It sent me to the ER. An allergy test won't pick it up, it has to be a tick borne disease pannel. At least to rule it out.

Rachel, test for alpha gal syndrome. Especially knowing that you and Todd have become heavy meat-eaters now - alpha gal, resulting from a tick bite which you could easily have gotten at the cabin or at home - results in your body basically producing an allergy to meat. Alpha gal is a carb found in almost all mammalian meat. Our bodies know how to digest it; our bloodstreams do not. It triggers the immune system to flood with a response and reports the alpha gal carb as an “intruder” - then you have an allergy. Many of the symptoms you have fit the bill!

I agree. Sounds like my experiences before I was diagnosed. It took them 8 years to figure it out. 4 lyme tests came back negative over the years. By the time I was almost in a wheel chair they finally realized it was lyme by my response to a round of antibiotics. I pray you find answers.

As a healthcare professional I am here to tell you, medicine isn’t what it used to be. You MUST take your health care into your own hands. You have started on the correct path!!! Write everything down, ask all the questions, seek advice, don’t allow your health to be pushed aside by a healthcare professional who can’t admit he/she doesn’t know what to do with your symptoms. The best physician is the one who says, I have no idea what is happening but we will find someone who does!!

Hi Rachel, somebody I know that was doing a keto diet, suffered from some kind of protein overload which resulted in some liver problem or inability to process protein well, leading to some build-up in nitrogen and ammonia in the body... it presented itself as a rash, fatigue and headache. I only mention it as I thought you changed your diet recently... it might be worth looking at your diet for a few weeks and see if it helps, it doesn't cost anything to try... Hope you feel better soon!

Rachel, First I want to say that it is good just to see your face:) And you are brave to show us so much transparency. You don't have to do this for us just because you have this channel. You owe us nothing as far as your privacy, but thank you for sharing so much of this with all of us. Now, I will say that if a doctor or specialist wants to run a test that has already been done by another doctor,,,,let them do it!!! Here is an example of why: In fall of 2020 while hospitals were getting overrun with Covid, I went to the ER because I had been having external bleeding "down there". They ran bloodwork and a CT and came back and told me I had a staff infection and sent me home with 10 day antibiotics. 2 weeks later, I went to a gynecologist ( I am like you and don't like seeing a doctor unless I have to) and upon just a VISUAL, she told me that it was CANCER. She said she would biopsy, but would bet her home on it. Turned out she was right. I then had 4 surgeries in a month for cancer removal and muscle graft. Adn the doctor didn't get it all, because after 6 more months of me asking why I wasn't healing "down there", he told me it was just slow healing. I got a second opinion and found still cancer and started chemo and radiation. Get testing and get second opinions. And I would get another liver panel..again. And keep track of your potassium levels also that can influence the kidney and liver. My potassium levels get high to the point of recommended medication and then come back down months later. Regarding the potassium, we reviewed 3 years of bloodwork ( I get bloodwork every 3 months post-cancer) and saw a pattern that my potassium spikes dramatically when my garden starts producing and I am eating even healthier than usual. All those veggies and potassium. I wish you the best and that what you get diagnosed is easily controllable to get back to normal. I don't have to bring up about appreciating the small things in life - You already do that and that's one of the reasons we adore you and Todd and your family.
    Prayers Up :)

I would add as the wife of a major heart attack survivor, if you have pain again and suspect heart attack have a troponin blood test 3x, 8 hours apart. This checks troponin which is an enzyme released by the heart (or any major muscle) when there is injury (heart attack). My husband's didn't register until 3rd time (16 hours after admitting to er) and he had a 99% blockage of the lad (widow maker). Also get an ekg which will show up abnormal if damage has been done to heart. I would also recommend a heart echocardiogram. It will show things like the size of your heart, how well your heart is pumping, how your valves are working, and if there is fluid between the heart and the sack around the heart. Also consider a coronary artery calcium ct scan . A noninvasive way as a first step to check for heart blockages. If any are suspected you should then have a nuclear stress test. Maybe also consider a 14 or 30 day heart monitor. They have them now where it's just a stick on electrode that sends info to a phone you carry. No more wires and straps. I do hope you find answers ❤ for your thyroid make sure they check your t3 and t4 not just your tsh. A complete thyroid panel. Praying for you 🙏 uncertainty is the worst. Once you know, you can deal with things mentally much better. Oh also, my husband has severe anxiety since his heart attack 20 years ago. Dr said very normal for someone who faced their own mortality. He does take Valium sometimes but we found on a daily basis that buspar tremendously helps. A very old, reliable, non addictive med. Keep us posted. Rest and lean on Jesus. You call do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Rachel, your symptoms rang a bell for me. I was in and out of er trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Without going into detail a woman at my church had had her gall bladder removed. It was making her so sick. I had asked for prayer for my concern and after church she came to me and told me what Dr to go see and to request an ultrasound sound of my gall bladder and a radio active scan of my liver. Gall bladder was full of white spots in the ultra sound …stones and the duct from the gall bladder to the liver was blocked. Acid reflux can cause numbing in the left arm and pain in the neck and palpitations. Didn’t know that until a young friend called me in the hospital to share her experience. Scheduled surgery but didn’t make it to the date, had to go in a day early I was so sick. When they took the gall bladder out it fell apart in their hands as they were removing it. That was 35 years ago before laparoscopic surgeries but if I hadn’t had that surgery at that time I may not have lived. 9 days in the hospital. Blood tests didn’t show much, no bile in my urine. Itching like crazy! I was 36. There will be an answer and letting people know your concerns is a reach out for help. When the right path presents its self you will know it.❤❤❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Wishing you the best Rachel. I think it is really important to have a family doctor who you trust and who is a good diagnostician..that person can help you navigate through the maze that our health care system has become. "Building a good medical team", as many often say these days, is truly daunting and you shouldn't have to do that when you are in the middle of a health care crisis..how would you do that without experiencing failures and disappointments? That is why having a really savvy, well informed and truly caring family doctor as the core of of your healthcare is important. And we should find that doctor and establish that relationship before the need arises. Good luck.

So sorry you are having to go through this. Your symptoms are so similar to a former co-worker of mine who was diagnosed with Alpha Gal Syndrome. It is a meat allergy that develops after a tick bite. It’s become more prevalent here in the south, but it’s worth looking in to … especially with your recent change in diet. She had the heart issues, hives, ER visits, tiredness, fever, etc. that you describe. Not saying that’s it, but if not, it could lead to other potential ideas. I’m praying for you and believing God for a diagnosis soon and treatment that gets you feeling more like yourself again!

Rachel, please pursue a diagnosis. Our 40 year old son began having some similar symptoms in March of 2023. So, so many tests were run-and showed nothing-but the symptoms were getting worse-he was getting sicker and sicker. By the time he was diagnosed with a blood cancer in mid May of the same year, he was VERY sick. Please, please PUSH for a diagnosis. Our son was passed from doctor to doctor and finally the infectious disease dr finally did the test they were all trying to avoid because his blood tests didn’t warrant this test. I’m praying for wisdom for your caregivers and strength for you and Todd. Love and prayers sweet lady.

Keeping you in my prayers. I know how exhausting this journey can be. Hoping your team of dr.'s can get you some answers soon. For me about 8yrs ago or so I started having crazy severe hives randomly. Was so rough getting a dr to listen to me and help. I finally found an allergist and found out I have something called Cross Reactive Protein allergy. So while I'm not technically allergic to any food, many of the foods I eat have the same molecular protein structure as environmental things (like dust, pine, mold, etc) that I am allergic to. So when I eat these foods my body thinks it's being bombarded with those histamines and I end up with bad hives, severe sinus etc. No where near what you are dealing with for sure, but the frustration to figure it out can be real tough.

**RN with 37 yrs experience and quite a few in liver transplant and clinic nurse to chief of hepatology- please see a hepatologist asap. NOT a gastroenterologist- a hepatologist. Did they do a total bilirubin? Sounds like a really bad virus/viral response which would account for the low WBC count. The itching could be related to an abnormal Total bilirubin, and the extreme fatigue due to the liver issues. You should also see a cardiologist as well due to the symptoms you experienced. No to the Liver US- a hepatologist will most likely order a triple phase MRI for liver imaging if needed. Liver enzymes don’t elevate unless the liver is really inflamed. I’m happy to answer to any questions that i can regarding the liver. I can’t stress seeing a Hepatologist asap enough. please keep us updated. God Bless and prayers for your healing. It can be really challenging for those of us who mistrust the western medical system when it concerns us or our loved ones. Personally, I would seek out a functional medicine doctor or naturopath. They are MDs, but they look at the whole person, rather than just their particular specialized field. They also tend to use diet changes and natural supplements to address issues instead of invasive procedures and medication that can have other side effects.

While in the hospital they discovered I've had at least one heart attack I never knew I had. I now have a severley weakened heart. Nothing surgery can repair. I'm at peace and just have the mindset of knowing God is taking care of me and I'll live till I don't. I just prayed for wisdom and guidance for your medical team, and that you find answers and heal if that be God's will.

Several years ago I suffered some of this and and infectious disease specialist diagnosed me with Histoplasmosis. Your heart palpitations reminded me of something I went through all of 2023 and half of 2024... I'm getting better now, but I was very bad for 16 months. Symptoms included: heart palpitations, rapid heartbeat after doing ANYTHING physical, POTS, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, tight throat, exhaustion, brain fog, "post exertion malaise", no ability to do anything but sit and rest... I had dozens of blood tests, CT scans, echocardiograms, stress tests, ECGs... all came back "normal." But one cardiologist finally said, "You're describing Long Covid." I spent hours and hours on Reddit reading about Long Covid and I think some of the things I learned helped me on the road to recovery. The thing about "Long Covid" is there really isn't a test or an official diagnosis and many doctors still don't think it's real. But there is a long list of symptoms that many sufferers seem to share (not all people have ALL, but all have SOME). I hope you figure out what it is!

My thoughts when you described all your symptoms was autoimmune or Lyme. I have had Lyme 3 times, and have an autoimmune (Hashimotos). It was a naturopath dr that discovered my Hashimotos. Every body is different and will present differently. I know you don't want it to be autoimmune but the test for it is not always accurate, same for Lyme. There are often false negatives so don't take the negative test results for autoimmune as you are in the clear, it can still be lurking in your body. Do NOT fake it till you make it. REST as much as your body needs, make that your priority. I know how hard it is, especially when you feel ok while resting. When i was at my worst even crocheting was too much for me to do. I am now doing much better. The Drs won't treat my Thyroid because my TSH isn't high enough. I tried a dessicated Thyroid supplement and it has changed my health so so much. I am able to be active again. I don't do drs either and most of the ones that i have went to have basically said yeah your sick but not enough for me to help you. So i have researched and tried different herbs and supplements to figure out what will help. It has taken me 10 or so years but i am much better now. You have to be your own advocate and push to find the answers you need. I hope you are able to find a solution faster than i was able to. Hugs and prayers.

Oh you sweet girl! I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've only had one auto immune "event". My immune system turned on for a virus and forgot to turn off. I was covered in hives and I'll never forget that horror. Even the soles of my feet were involved.
I've been under the care of energy based healers for years(some would call them naturopaths but that sure is an open label). I'm so thankful for them. (by the way, I'm from Alberta). They've helped me through so many issues I haven't seen a doctor in years either. Then, this summer, I ended up in ER which turned out to my own self neglect. But I got primary doctor and since I'm post menopausal and haven't seen a doctor in so long, he's sending me for lots of tests. In Alberta, we can sign up online and see out own test results. Doctor didn't even mention it but I have several small cysts in my liver. So, back to the energy healer I went! I'm getting her to work on that for a while then I'm going to ask for a follow up ultrasound. The only reason I found out was the ultrasound I got post ER to make sure my intestines were clear ended up with an older tech teaching a brand new one. She asked permission to do my entire abdomen for teaching purposes and if I hadn't said yes, I would have never known about the cysts. My liver has been weak all my life and no one was able to tell me anything and no doc sent me for test. I've never been able to consume alchohol. Sometimes, the good Lord sends us the people in our lives that we need.
My best wishes for your diagnosis and recovery.

I had all these symptoms probably 7 years ago. I worked in medical field . I saw ENT, PCP, and they then sent me to dermatologist. Who said looks like strep so he ordered blood tests for it because throat swab had not showed it. He called the next morning and said it was positive for strep B. So he started PCN rash and throat pain improved dramatically within a few days. Next I had UTI frequently cultured positive for strep B and staph. More antibiotics next my appendix ruptured. 3 months of treatment and surgery. Then a mild heart attack. My mouth and eyes had stopped tearing or making saliva early on. Tons of bloodwork and they decided it was ruled I have autoimmune disorder and epilepsy but they have never been able to determine what it is. I hope you get a better diagnosis.

I’m so sorry for your health issues. As someone with lifelong allergies and mystery symptoms, I’d like to suggest that you keep a daily journal of everything you have eaten or drank in as much detail as you can. Also of anything you put on your skin, soaps, shampoos, perfumes. Include where you went and what you did, who you were with. I know you use a lot of natural products and it could be a plant or herb or a combination of ingredients that your body is reacting to. Or something in your garden or animals you were exposed to. Then end each day’s page with your physical notes…fever, rash, pain, etc. With a daily journal a pattern can emerge. It sounds like a lot of work but it could be a window on your world to help your doctors with a diagnosis.

Years ago my bestie had the exact same symptoms and went to the ER (at my insistence) and after a couple of days was diagnosed with having a heart attack. Rachel, I am so sorry you’ve been going through this! I would definitely ask for the liver ultrasound. And if it was me, I’d do the other things your daughter in law suggests. I have fibromyalgia and in the last few years was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The thing with autoimmune conditions is that the don’t follow the lab book. And it sucks for sure. I don’t love going to the doctor either. I had 3 or my 4 kiddos at home, took them to a holistic pediatrician. I’d just go for the consult and check everything off your list with the specialist. It’ll be worth it in the long run and then once you know what’s going on with your body you can ditch the docs. You could also try a naturopathic doctor. That may sit better with your feelings about the medical side of it all.

My 7 year old (at the time) daughter had really strange symptoms a couple years ago. After a bunch of tests, it turns out she had mononucleosis. It started causing symptoms such as neck pain and swelling. She had small fevers with zero symptoms. Once they found out what it was, they sent her for an ultrasound for her liver health and an EKG for heart health. Thankfully her symptoms subsided but it can come back.
