    The biggest nonsense about Ukraine being a money hole is that it’s precisely what the US policy approach has guaranteed- without air superiority, Ukraine never had the ability to win and the US has known that from the beginning. It’s a useful grinder for Russia from a typically short-sighted US strategic position.

    Careless use of language to describe the French coalition of the left as "four far left parties". One of them certainly is, two of them certainly are not, and one of them is a strange post-communist relic which has somehow survived historical oblivion. The left in France is a very complicated and nuanced subject, and it's interesting to ask why the centre left chooses to join the far left rather than Macron's block in the centre, when it is very obviously pulled in both directions. You could have done much better. Your language effectively equated the left coalition (le Nouveau Front Populaire) with the far right, which is a monolith and not a coalition by any definition. I tell you this because I value what you do.

      Mais non. Greens are Centre Left to Left; the PCF is a member of the Party of the European Party Left, the Socialist Party is centre left and for decades was the largest party of the French Left, and La France Insoumise is a left-wing political party in France, launched in 2016 by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, then a Member of the European Parliament and former co-president of the Left Party. It aims to implement the eco-socialist and democratic socialist programme L'Avenir en commun.

      As a radical leftist myself it's my experience that no one on the far left condoned the killing of civilians and that there were only celebrations for Oct 7th intially when it was understood that military targets were attacked (whoch they were).

      That was my reaction as well, this language echoes the bullshit we get all day on the billionaire-owned French media, equating the left-wing coalition (a collection of more or less progressive but firmly democratic parties) with a far right extremist party founded by literal former Waffen SS and steeped in xenophobia and authoritarianism since its creation. One guy on the left says something stupid and the entire coalition is antisemitic etc.? Give me a break, we’ve had literal neonazis marching in the streets, guess who *they* vote for?

    It is totally untrue that Netanyahu has a “relatively small base of support in Israel”. He has served as PM for 16 years. Yes, there has been significant public outrage and mass protests, but we cannot pretend that he doesn’t have a massive base of support. That’s like saying Trump has a small base. Trump could very well win the 2024 election, as could Netanyahu. The wishful thinking from Democrats who approach foreign policy from a partisan lens and assume others agree with their politics is distracting and doesn’t serve U.S. interests.

    • @AKCFTW
      @AKCFTW 3 месяца назад +1

      Israel has a parliamentary system. They don’t elect their executive branch. And Netanyahu’s base *is* small. Their electoral system isn’t compromised by politicking and gerrymandering, like ours is. If elections were held, he would need a minor miracle to form a majority coalition, after all of this.

      IMO Left is now a subverted and confusing term. It used to mean "towards communism or socialism" now it (might?) mean "towards humanism". What does it say about the Right that it labels anything that puts human beings first as opposite to it? Nothing good IMO.
      It doesn't help that humanists label THEMSELVES as Left.
      The term Right used to mean "towards fascism." Now it seems to include "towards conservatism". What does it say about humanists that they labels traditional values as opposite? Apart from anything else I think it means they're stupid.

    I like these guys so much and used to listen to the podcast entranced, but gradually realized they have zero idea what they're talking about.
    Ben Rhodes disparaged the PDB in a previous podcast, which I hear is simultaneously the most rewarding and the WORST job in the United States Government because it's so stressful to make, and Tommy talked about the one intelligence "sever" as if he was describing US government interwebs as pneumatic tubes. I lost all confidence that they and their team are competent in research. They're just saying stuff. They don't have the native expertise to talk about international affairs and they don't have the time to research what they need to before vomiting out a bunch of nonsense.
    These are the bosses you email detailed, cited, researched work to, and they proceed to not read it and just riff.
    Like, the war in Palestine is completely awash in misunderstanding and misinformation and they just read headlines uncritically
    I'm a rando on the internet but on multiple occasions I've been like, "oh hey maybe that's a little off." and have found grievous errors in this podcast, mostly about the Middle East, defense, and legal issues
    For example, the blockade of northern Yemen has come up many times in context of the Saudi actions. They've talked repeatedly about food insecurity and famine, but never mentioned the UN Inspection program to allow food stuffs into Yemen. Here it is vimye.org/. Oh hey, there's an entire mechanism to get food there. Part of the problem is there's only one major port, it does ~80% of the food trade, and it has no designed capability to handle containers. Here's a Wikipedia article en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Hudaydah. It took 20 seconds longer than expected because I forgot how to spell Hudaydah. Here's where the port is: 14°50'17"N 42°56'09"E. Looks like there's two cranes and only one fricking highway to Sanaa. Maybe there's a more complicated issue at hand.
    This is not an ideological stance. I'm not arguing the Saudi regime doesn't suck. Encounter one of their motorists and find out. I'm stating the research and understanding on this podcast is so lazy, it's undermining their core arguments.
    They're just saying stuff
