So I almost cried from watching this. Here's the thing. I'm from Chicago and I'm studying in Seoul right now. I *love* deep dish (it was my last meal back home before I flew out here). And I miss it so much and watching you eat the pizza was great because seeing people enjoy real deep dish *in Chicago* makes me feel some weird type of pride. So I was doing great and everything was fine until you brought out the root beer because NOT ONLY were you eating one of the foods i miss most from home but you had the AUDACITY to casually bring out something I have been craving since I goT HERE mONTHS AGO and I had to pause the video and go for a walk because this was so cruel and I've never felt more personally targeted by a youtube video in my entire life I'm going home for the holidays in 1 week and I was doing so well with not thinking about how much I miss home honestly how dare you.
It's actually tradition to use a knife and fork on a Chicago deep dish. My family is from Chi-town. I always hit up Lou Malnati's when I visit. You can spot a visitor by them simply picking up the slice as if it's New York style. It's essentially a cheese pie with the garnish of a pizza.
Just came back to watch this video again. Many years ago I went to Chicago for a conference. A friend of mine from the area took me to Lou Malnati's. Since then I've dreamed of deep dish, so much so that I'm tempted to spend $150 to have it shipped overnight to Colorado. Would be so worth it....

The hyphae of yeasts and bad bacteria puncture the small intestine letting certain proteins into the blood stream causing an inflammatory reaction. Nothing to do with chemicals and eating organic wheat won't magically cure your intestine full of holes

I have Celiac and cannot have gluten, but Lou Malnatis does a gluten free deep dish pizza now! Only place i know of that does, so its the only place i get pizza now haha
i lived in chicago for a few years when i was in high school, and a couple years ago went back for a friends wedding. i took a friend with me from florida who'd never been to chicago before so of course we went to giordano's. he swore to me he'd be able to finish the pizza but i convinced him to still just order one small one to share. he had 2 pieces and was done lol

I don't ever really see people eating it with their hands though so that was a surprise - mostly we use a knife and fork :D Have you done Lou Malnati's or Jet's? Lou's is a classic competitor to Giordano's, and Jet's is kind of a hidden gem of deep dish. I'll go to Lou or Giordano's with family, but Jet's with friends :)
I think the reason why I liked this mukbang was the fact that there was no slurping and that they took the time to describe the food and the experience instead of just pigging out 😊🙏
I am originally from the Northeast specifically New Jersey, and being from an Italian family growing up family members owned pizzerias in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia and I am extremely partial to a New York style pizza but I do have to say I definitely do enjoy the deep dish pizza from time to time.
That is how Chicagoans enjoy deep dish pizza too..."from time to time"...we mostly love thin crust tavern style but for special occasions deep dish is special.
My wife and I tried deep dish pizza in Chicago in 2002. It was amazing. The problem for me is that cheese can trigger a migraine, which it did--a bad one. But it didn't keep us from going right back in a few days and repeating the process. Fortunately, no migraine the next time. Then I spent 4 years working to reproduce the recipe. I have done so. It's now a staple in our home. Homemade Chicago style pizza.
When you come from Chicago it's really hard to eat pizza anywhere else. It's hard to live anywhere else. So much good food in one town. Good food, good music, summers are the best. Growing up in Chicago was great. If you weren't scared of leaving your neighborhood. You can learn and experience a lot. Now I'm homesick and hungry.

Did Josh & Ollie say the name of the restaurant? If not, at the end of the video we see it's Giordano's. I used to live in the burbs 20 years ago. I preferred Nancy's for deep dish but everyone there has their own fave. Restaurants who make deep dish put cheese on the bottom so it doesn't dry and shrivel. This also works for pizzas with cheese on top, cook it for the minimum suggested time or the cheese will start to fade.
I used to like Edwardo's & Wapaghetti in Wheeling. Gino's East in Schaumburg disappointed a little. Gino's deep dish had hunks of sausage as big as your nose, but not that flavorful.
@@JustMe-dc6ks what's weird is i always found the pepto tablets to almost have a root beer like taste, which made them not as bad to me. and depending on what else I ate before, I"ve gotten a root beer like taste while having gum. So this all makes sense to me. I love root beer btw.

I live 3 hours from Chicago, and nobody I know ever gets the bbq deep dish pizza. They all get the tomato deep dish pizza. And most people do not drink root beer, we drink coke or pepsi, I rarely ever have a root beer, unless I have a root beer float.

Late to the the party, but the one and only time I was in Chicago, in 1999, I had a Chicago-style pizza pie, because you have to, right? :) It was a spinach and feta cheese pizza, and to this day, it's the best pizza I've ever had.

I'm a Chicagoan and even I had to confirm that this is sold as deep dish, because most places with this style refer to it as "stuffed pizza". Deep dish is usually a porous, butter crust and doesn't have so much cheese.

Lea Sine idk. As a life long Chicagoan I’ve never heard that so I doubt that’s true. Plus if it was cooked into the crust it wouldn’t have any alcohol in it anymore. When you cook the beer only the flavor stays. The alcohol gets cooked out.
Took a trip to Chicago when my picky eater son was about 2. He ate an entire slice of pepperoni deep dish and a big chunk of mine, lol. I think it was the most I’d ever seen him eat in one setting, lol. I was amazed, idk where he put it, just wouldn’t stop eating. It’s that good.
you can order Giordano/s online and they'll ship the pizza to you! I visited friends in Chicago and had it, then when I returned to NC I ordered one and it was still incredible

They are at Giordano's. I used to be a pizza maker there back in 1978. The "Special" has a top and bottom crust, with mild Italian sausage, canned mushrooms, onions, green bell peppers, and cheese inside. The tomato sauce gets ladled on top crust, with sprinkle of grated parm and drizzle of evoo. Most people eat them with a knife and fork.
Deep Dish Pizza was my husband's absolute favourite pizza to eat. He loved it. He'd get stuffed with sausage and pepperoni and of course a mountain of cheese. He's wait no matter how long it took to make it, God rest his soul. I haven't eaten any for 8 years now... well maybe even longer so I think I'm due to eat some in his memory. Watching you savouring that pizza is making my mouth water. I'm new to your channel but so far I really enjoy watching you try new food from all-around the world. Chicago Deep Dish is my favorite type of pizza. I like the ones with a butter crust with corn meal (Lou Malnati’s). I personally eat deep dish with a knife and fork (and I believe most others do as well). Have you guys tried Detroit style pizza? It’s my second favorite kind. Now I want pizza!

Oh goodness, deep dish pizza and root beer. I miss it so much. I now live in Malawi and so root beer is not a thing here being as it's a former British colony. Root beer floats and pizza parties were my entire childhood and even some of my adulthood. I miss it so much! I haven't been back to the states since 2020 and I'm having withdrawals. I think you two need to have a root beer tasting, with all the big brands and the even better handcrafted small business sodas. Also, find and A&W if you can.

Chicago has four types of pizza you can try. There is regular crust you get elsewhere. The deep dish is also common. There is a stuffed version. My favorite is the thin crust they slice into squares.
I love the stuffed pizza so much. Where do you get it? I wasn’t able to find it last time I visited. Nancy’s claims that theirs are stuffed, but it tasted like deep dish to me. My favorite was always Edwardo’s, but they closed all of the Edwardo’s in the city.

However, I 100% know and guarantee you that if a pizza is actually stuffed and not just labeled as stuffed, then it has way more cheese than any deep dish I’ve tried. I’ve tried all of the main ones, including Giordano’s and Lou Milnati’s, and they are possibly half as much cheese as Edwardo’s stuffed pizza.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but root beer always tastes to me like sassafras root tea. When I was a little kid I had sassafras tea at a family reunion. Went out with my grandpa and we dug out the roots and my grandma made it. Unbelievable how good.

My wife and I tried deep dish pizza in Chicago in 2002. It was amazing. The problem for me is that cheese can trigger a migraine, which it did--a bad one. But it didn't keep us from going right back in a few days and repeating the process. Fortunately, no migraine the next time. Then I spent 4 years working to reproduce the recipe. I have done so. It's now a staple in our home. Homemade Chicago style pizza.
When you come from Chicago it's really hard to eat pizza anywhere else. It's hard to live anywhere else. So much good food in one town. Good food, good music, summers are the best. Growing up in Chicago was great. If you weren't scared of leaving your neighborhood. You can learn and experience a lot. Now I'm homesick and hungry.

I used to live in the burbs 20 years ago. I preferred Nancy's for deep dish but everyone there has their own fave.
Restaurants who make deep dish put cheese on the bottom so it doesn't dry and shrivel.
This also works for pizzas with cheese on top, cook it for the minimum suggested time or the cheese will start to fade.
I preferred Nancy's also...it was great!!!
I used to like Edwardo's & Wapaghetti in Wheeling. Gino's East in Schaumburg disappointed a little. Gino's deep dish had hunks of sausage as big as your nose, but not that flavorful.
Prefer Nancy's, Connie's, Malnati's, Gino's East, Uno...almost any other deep dish to Giordano's.

@@JustMe-dc6ks what's weird is i always found the pepto tablets to almost have a root beer like taste, which made them not as bad to me. and depending on what else I ate before, I"ve gotten a root beer like taste while having gum. So this all makes sense to me. I love root beer btw.

I live 3 hours from Chicago, and nobody I know ever gets the bbq deep dish pizza. They all get the tomato deep dish pizza. And most people do not drink root beer, we drink coke or pepsi, I rarely ever have a root beer, unless I have a root beer float.

Late to the the party, but the one and only time I was in Chicago, in 1999, I had a Chicago-style pizza pie, because you have to, right? :) It was a spinach and feta cheese pizza, and to this day, it's the best pizza I've ever had.

I'm stunned; honestly, I've never seen anything like that. I've had pizza that was called deep dish but it didn't even look like it was related to what you guys were served. I'm a Chicagoan and even I had to confirm that this is sold as deep dish, because most places with this style refer to it as "stuffed pizza". Deep dish is usually a porous, butter crust and doesn't have so much cheese.

Lea Sine idk. As a life long Chicagoan I’ve never heard that so I doubt that’s true. Plus if it was cooked into the crust it wouldn’t have any alcohol in it anymore. When you cook the beer only the flavor stays. The alcohol gets cooked out.
Took a trip to Chicago when my picky eater son was about 2. He ate an entire slice of pepperoni deep dish and a big chunk of mine, lol. I think it was the most I’d ever seen him eat in one setting, lol. I was amazed, idk where he put it, just wouldn’t stop eating. It’s that good.

They are at Giordano's. I used to be a pizza maker there back in 1978. The "Special" has a top and bottom crust, with mild Italian sausage, canned mushrooms, onions, green bell peppers, and cheese inside. The tomato sauce gets ladled on top crust, with sprinkle of grated parm and drizzle of evoo. Most people eat them with a knife and fork.
Deep Dish Pizza was my husband's absolute favourite pizza to eat. He loved it. He'd get stuffed with sausage and pepperoni and of course a mountain of cheese. He's wait no matter how long it took to make it, God rest his soul. I haven't eaten any for 8 years now... well maybe even longer so I think I'm due to eat some in his memory. Watching you savouring that pizza is making my mouth water. I'm new to your channel but so far I really enjoy watching you try new food from all-around the world. I particularly enjoyed watching your little girl tasting Oreos... she is one smart cookie. God Bless you both. I'm so happy you enjoyed the States and got to experience so much while you were here. It was a well planned trip. Chicago Deep Dish is my favorite type of pizza. I like the ones with a butter crust with corn meal (Lou Malnati’s). I personally eat deep dish with a knife and fork (and I believe most others do as well).

Oh goodness, deep dish pizza and root beer. I miss it so much. I now live in Malawi and so root beer is not a thing here being as it's a former British colony. Root beer floats and pizza parties were my entire childhood and even some of my adulthood. I miss it so much! I haven't been back to the states since 2020 and I'm having withdrawals. I think you two need to have a root beer tasting, with all the big brands and the even better handcrafted small business sodas. Also, find and A&W if you can.

Chicago has four types of pizza you can try. There is regular crust you get elsewhere. The deep dish is also common. There is a stuffed version. My favorite is the thin crust they slice into squares.
I love the stuffed pizza so much. Where do you get it? I wasn’t able to find it last time I visited. Nancy’s claims that theirs are stuffed, but it tasted like deep dish to me.
My favorite was always Edwardo’s, but they closed all of the Edwardo’s in the city.
If you look close the pizza in this video is actually stuffed, not deep dish. Theres a second layer of crust

And on too of that, most deep dish tastes EXTREMELY similar to most stuffed pizza, just more dough and cheese in stuffed usually. You don’t know if that pizza in the video tastes like stuffed and they just don’t know any better. I just don’t really know what you were trying to get at with this. I wasn’t mentioning a technicality for no reason. If these guys are eating stuffed, then they’re giving an inaccurate review of deep dish. Come on, you’re really gonna make me explain that to you?

I thought you were responding to what I said about wanting to know where to get stuffed pizza anymore because where I used to get it from doesn’t exist in Chicago. However, I 100% know and guarantee you that if a pizza is actually stuffed and not just labeled as stuffed, then it has way more cheese than any deep dish I’ve tried. I’ve tried all of the main ones, including Giordano’s and Lou Milnati’s, and they are possibly half as much cheese as Edwardo’s stuffed pizza.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but root beer always tastes to me like sassafras root tea. When I was a little kid I had sassafras tea at a family reunion. Went out with my grandpa and we dug out the roots and my grandma made it. Unbelievable how good.
Pizza could kill me, the dream of eating such deliciousness will remain as a distant memory... IT LOOKS SO GOOD!
